Pakistani artist Khalil Chishtee takes an unwanted, meddlesome material — the plastic grocery bag — and creates sculptures that express feelings of sorrow, dejection and even victimhood. Chishtee builds human figures from these discarded objects, leaving the bags' rough, torn edges visible to add a sense of fragility to the works. Captivating with their delicate beauty, the monochromatic figures sullenly peer at their feet; some are life-like while others appear supernatural with angel wings or altered limbs. Take a look at some of Chishtee's works after the jump.

Huang Po Hsun’s vibrant, bombastic paintings move between the familiar and the utterly otherworldly. These works, primarily acrylic on canvas, can feel like underwater carnivals or bubbling abstractions. The artist seems to be retrofitting icons from our world into his own flamboyant dreams.

On September 13, Cotton Candy Machine in Brooklyn will open a group show, "Allegorical Quarter," featuring four artists with a penchant for narrative: Jeremy Hush, Michael Michael Motorcycle, Dilek Baykara and Paul Romano. While Michael Michael Motorcycle and Paul Romano's works pulse with vivid colors and textures, Jeremy Hush opts for a more subdued palate in his haunting mixed-media works and Dilek Baykara creates an ambiance of 1930s-tinged mysticism with pen-and-ink. Take a look at a sneak peek of "Allegorical Quarter" below and see the exhibition September 13 through October 6. See more after the jump.

The Japanese illustrator known as Avogado6 uses the language everyone understands—and that is no language at all. It's probably because the delicate topics and complex emotions he conveys are too difficult to describe with words, so this artist chooses thought-provoking visual stories in his unique style. Most of his illustrations are like pills, each containing the flaws of our society and mental struggles. And I must admit, some of them are really hard to swallow. His emotion-fueled, dark, and disturbing illustrations talk about things you wish no one relates to; however, it's a pretty accurate, yet haunting, depiction of the depths of our world.
