The Tuscan FLUTED column has a classic look dating back to Roman times, characterized by its wide base. It can stand on its own or it can be wrapped around an opening as a casing to give it a sense of elegance. The shaft is 96" long (8ft). The outside dimension is 7 ⅝" square and the inside is 6 ⅝" with the shaft panels being ½" thick MDF, to be primed and painted after installation. The base and cap are made from either Poplar or Primed MDF and only suggested for indoor applications. The base adds 3" making the footprint 10 ⅝ ". The capital trim adds 4 ⅜" to the top portion making it 12". The base trim is 5 ½" high. The flutes stop and finish at about 2 ½" from the top and bottom of the shaft as shown.The kit includes: 4 - 8ft panels that make up the shaft of the column; 1 architecturally correct Tuscan base; 4 pieces of 3" Georgian crown and banding to create a capital; mounting brackets; tape; and even the MDF glue. Everything you see in the photograph is cut to size. The column is shipped unassembled so that it can be used to wrap a jack post, lolly post or an existing support. The shaft is made up of four sides that go together like a puzzle, using lock mitre joints for easy assembly. All the smaller pieces also require assembly.The 7' version of this column is also 8' long but the flutes are 12" shorter with the excess to be cut off on site. The 9' version has a 8' shaft with flutes that are 12" longer than the 8' version. The extra foot is shipped separately to be added to the shaft on site.
