Scroll down for English please. Tämä peitto valmistui jo keväällä. Siinä on suosikkiväriä eli sinistä mutta myös ruskeaa, jota on tullut käytettyä tosi vähän. Aika kivasti ne sopivat yhteen, vaikka onkin vähän erikoisempi väriyhdistelmä ainakin minulle. Reunakantti on ihan hennon kapeaa ruskeaa raitaa, melkein yksiväristä. **** This quilt has been finished since spring. I used one of my favorite colors, blue, but also brown which I don't use often. This is quite unusual color combo for me, but they work well together. Elmo woke up and is wondering what's goin on. Töölön tilkkupaja made the long arm quilting. Those quilted curves look good on the white parts. This Robert Kaufman's free quilt pattern is called Kite Flight. It's also a good pattern to use Jelly rolls with. I tried different options but the blues in the middle and the browns on the edges was my favorite color layout. This quilt is going to be a gift but I don't know who is going to get it yet.

I was asked if I'd like to participate in the Benartex online magazine "Modern By The Yard' in a feature called 'Modern With A Twist'. What does that mean?! Three designers are asked to put a modern take on a traditional block and feature it using one of their current fabric lines. I was up for the challenge and knew it would be a lot of fun! MODERN BY THE YARD Our mission: Modernize Flying Geese. My all time favorite block has to be Flying Geese! Besides being a good all around perfect block, it has unlimited possibilities! From size, shape, traditional or improv, there’s always something new to explore and design! I decided to keep my block simple, yet impactful! There is plenty of negative space, open space with the background, and depending on how you place your blocks the design changes giving you many different options. KEEPING PACE I choose Gloaming by Shelley Cavanna mostly because of the colors. The turquoise, lime and mulberry are a beautiful combination! The geometric, tone on tone and floral prints seemed like the perfect choice for a perfect block…Flying Geese! I played with this block for hours! Layouts, fabrics, more layouts! It certainly has potential to make a few pretty cool quilts! I don't know about you, but this layout has a 'wave illusion' to it! I guess it could be just me, but I think not! I'm so glad I went with these colors! I love the combination and feel they were perfect for this block! Of course, what would a block with potential be without sharing some variations?! EQ8 makes it so easy to switch fabrics! This is the same layout, but I used 'Cherry Twist' from Benartex. I was feeling the red, black, grey and white! These two are symmetrical, but both look so different. What would an idea of mine be without testing it using solids? The blocks are randomly placed with some flipped. A variation of the block. This is a more scrappy version using Denyse Schmidt 'Washington Depot'. It could be a lot of fabrics from one collection or better yet, a lot of different scraps from your very own stash! I will be making this block into a quilt...it will happen...after I get some other projects off my plate! You may be wondering how this block is a 'modern' version of Flying Geese. What I will say is this...because the Flying Geese block is typically a rectangle and one actual 'goose', I opted to add many geese to create one square block. Hopefully the layout of the block is a modern interpretation! nif-ty; adjective (ti-er, ti-est) informal, fashionable, stylish: a nifty quilt!
Thanksgiving Dinner was a success, and after my family left and the kitchen was clean, I went into the studio and sewed side pieces to my green slab triangles. I have decided to continue with the "Skittles" idea and not add any more colors to this particular quilt. I'll keep making the slabs in other colors, but they'll go in other quilts. Since I couldn't really add them to the layout, I just arranged them differently. These arrowheads could be a way to arrange a quilt with blue and purple, for example. Or this. After I made all the green ones, I started adding the side triangles to the red ones. This would make a terrific layout also. These triangle in a square blocks are 6-1/2" per side.

By Diane Harris, HQ Stitch Brand Ambassador I pay more attention to quilting than I used to. The educators at Handi Quilter are rubbing off on me! I notice especially when the quilting is its own design element. Here’s what I mean. The quilt above stopped me in my tracks. The piecing is simple. […]

I made this church banner for a friend to gift to her church in 2015. It is approximately 69" x 93" and is all batik fabrics. I used Hobbs Thermore batting in it to keep it lightweight. Click here to see a photo of it hanging in the church. 21" finished colorwash. I used 2" squares to make it in 2015. 28" colorwash made with 2.5" squares. I made the top before 2007 and used it as a class sample for years. Then in 2015 I finally quilted and finished it. This little 19" colorwash is a mix of regular quilting cottons and batiks and was made in 2015. All batik rectanges 2.5" x 4.5". I made it in June, 2007. It is 45" x 63.5". It is in the Julie and Larry Sefton Collection and was featured in the October 2014 issue of "Quilt Life". Bright Colorwash 1 - 43" x 56" Finished in 2012 Bright Colorwash 2 39.5" x 50.5" Finished in 2013 Bright colorwash made with rectangles 2" x 4" finished in 2015. Sold as a quilt top in 2015. Batik Colorwash 50.5" x 38.5". Finished in 2012 Batik Colorwash 2 - 38.5" x 38.5". Finished in 2012 Batik colorwash made in 2015 with rectangles that finish at 2" x 4". It is approximately 44" x 68". African Colorwash - 20" x 23.75". Finished in 2013 I made this piece in Feb. 2008. It is 19" x 23.5" I had the quilt top on my design wall for about 8 years. I finally finished it in Feb. 2008. It is 20" square. Colorwash bars, designed and pieced in 1995 and quilted many years later. My first colorwash pieces were made with calico type fabrics and from there I went to multicolor busy floral prints of a little larger size. This is one of my earliest pieces made with 1.5" squares that finish at 1". It is 12.75" square. This is another early piece, also with squares finishing at 1". It is 16.5" square. I sold this piece so I can't measure it but i think it is about 25" square. If you go back to this post you will see how I store the squares for working on this type of quilt. I challenged myself to go one step farther with this colorwash and add applique to it. I liked it before I added the triangles and I like it afterwards so I'm not sure what I learned there. This piece is 36" x 37". This piece was one of the first colorwash pieces that I made. I believe it was in January of 1991. It was accepted in the AQS show in 1992. It is 49" square. I entered this quilt in the local county fair quite a few years ago and it won the Best Quilt purple ribbon. It is a Colorwash Trip Around the World. This heart colorwash quilt was made with a strip pieced method of constructing 13 stratas to create the 13 rows in the hearts and then sliced to make 24 identical blocks. I gave this quilt to one of my nieces.
