Here is a picture of each page of the quiet book with a description if needed. Page #1: Button Flowers I finally figured out how to work the button and button hole settings on my sewing machine! Page #2: Zipper Jacket This was my first experience with a zipper. It works, but just don't look too close! Page #3: Colors (Snap Balloons) I used embroidery floss to make an outline of each balloon in the matching color. I used ribbon for the strings. Page #4: Shapes I also used embroidery floss here to make an outline of each shape. Page $5: Piggy Bank/ Tithing The slot below will also hold a pen/ pencil and a small notebook. I made 10 coins out of felt to take from the piggy bank and put in the tithing envelope. Page #6: Purse I saw this on another blog, but modified it to how I wanted it. The flap snaps shut. There are 4 bracelets and a felt lipstick inside. Page #7: Braiding This is self explanatory. There are different colored elastics in the pocket. Page #8: Seasons Storage This page has 4 pockets that hold pieces for the 4 different seasons on the next page. Page #9: Seasons Spring: Spring Leaves and a Spring Flower (the grass and sun are removable as well) Summer: Full Summer Leaves and an American Flag Fall: Fall Leaves and a Pumpkin Winter: Snow Cloud, Snowman and Snowy Ground Other weather: Gray Cloud, White Cloud, Rain Cloud Page #10: Barn The doors open to show a cow, a pig and a chicken in a little pocket. The animals are finger puppets. Page #11: Dressing People The pocket below holds their clothes (which I still have to make!) Page #12: Tic Tac Toe There is an extra velcro strip to hold the pieces below. Page #13: Shoe Lace Page #14: Numbers/ Fruit & Vegetables These pages were a lot of work, but I love how they turned out. Numbers: 1 Banana, 2 Carrots, 3 Pineapples, 4 Pears, 5 Apples and 6 Strawberries. Page #15: Numbers/ Fruit & Vegetables Numbers: 7 Oranges, 8 Potatoes, 9 Peas and 10 Grapes. Page #16: Alphabet Storage Page #17: Alphabet This page has 4 strips of velcro where you can spell words with the letters held in the pocket on the previous page. (I only made the letters for Emme's name so far, but will make more in the future.) Page #18: Puzzle Storage Page This page has 3 pockets which store 3 different felt puzzles. For our third day into our letter of the week packet, I decided to focus on our Koala activities. Once again, koala bears aren't something we run into every day here in Colorado, so we began our day with this short YouTube video: Who knew that Koalas made such a sound! Apparently the little guy eventually made it into his tree, so it happily ended well, even if we don't get to see that part. Anyway, this video gave Little Miss inspiration to get going on her Dot to Dot, so off we went to the table. This Dot to Dot is a bit more complicated so I asked her to trace the numbers with her finger first. She needed a little help from Mommy for the higher numbers, but this weekly repetition is really increasing her confidence with these activities! Then, she finished it off with her pencil. Now, in our Letter of the Week packet for Letter K we have this very fun Koala craft that uses the child's hand-print to make the little koala's body. It turns out very cute, but the point is, Little Miss and I have done that one already. So I decided to just create a new Koala craft this morning, and put it up as a Freebie extra because those are always delightful for everyone. Here it is: Isn't that cute? First, the head attached to the ears. We recommend putting the ears behind the head. Then, she attached the head to the body. Just like that, almost done! Of course, we need a flower as a finishing touch! Ahh, so cute! And the Koala craft isn't bad, either. :) Happy Freebies!

Sandwich biscuits - gotta love them! They're great for dunking into coffee or tea :) Here's how to make a peanut butter sandwich cookie! All you need is: 1. A pair of embroidery scissors for precision cutting. 2. A sewing needle and two shades of brown sewing thread. 3. Two shades of brown felt in "golden" and "peanut butter". Step 1: To make the “biscuit”, cut out 4 circles from golden brown felt (diameter 4.3 cm). Sew two pieces together (I recommend using a blanket stitch) to make the top and bottom half. Step 2: To make the “holes” in the biscuit, sew seven X's on the cookie. Be sure to pull the thread tight each time you make an "X" to get that tufted look. Step 3: Cut out 1 circle from "peanut butter" brown felt (diameter 4.3 cm) and sandwich it between your top and bottom biscuits. Sew the pieces together through the holes on the bottom and top (or you could just use hot glue). You can also make rectangular and square sandwich biscuits using the same technique, give it a try!

When I tell people that I needle felt, more often than not I have to explain what that is. At shows, a lot of folks walk into my booth and assume that I'm using boiled wool or I have knitted then felted (by way of washing and drying) my products. I always keep some unfinished products and supplies on hand so that I can demonstrate the process: "See, I gather the wool into the general shape, then I poke it with these special, barbed needles, and the fibers tangle together. The more I poke, the more I can shape and sculpt the wool..." Once they see how things are made, then it seems as though they have a better appreciation of the total work and time that goes into each piece. Needle felted pieces are not something that can be mass produced--at least very well. I'm just a one gal show over here (plus the work my husband puts in). As much as I wish I could make more things, my time is finite, which means my productivity is finite too. Sometimes I'm envious of graphic designers and artists who can make prints--they can produce so much product. They can send their work to shops across the states--out of the states even. I struggle to renew local consignment orders. Thank goodness the shop owners are patient. But I digress. Below is the step-by-step process with short descriptions of how I made the wool painting from week 3 of 52 Weeks of Felt Paintings. Enjoy! 1. Blank needle felted canvas on my felting foam with my 6-needle tool. 2. The four shades of blue I used for the sky. 3. The entire background was covered in one blue. 4. Other blues laid out on the canvas to determine how I wanted the gradient. 5. All the blues are felted down. 6. Playing with composition with shades of pink and purple for the balloons. 7. Started with the the balloons in the back.... 8. And worked my way toward the front of the bunch. 9. All balloons are felted in place. 10. Placing lighter colored felt for balloon highlights. 11. Balloon highlights are felted in. 12. I also added some white into the highlights. Determining string placement. 13. "Stretching" the wool into long pieces for the strings. 14. All the strings are in place. 15. Adding flesh colored wool for the hand and arm holding the balloons. 16. Adding small balloon details. 17. Small detail work on the hand. 18. The edges of the painting are still pretty messy... 19. ...so I cleaned them up with my felting needles. 20. Edges smoothed. (Side shot to show dimension.) 21. Finished! I didn't time myself while making this. It's not terribly detailed, so I guess it took a total of 1.5 hours (give or take a bit) not including all the picture taking. More detailed pieces take up to 3 or 4 hours. It truly is a lot of layering, and it's easier to build up the felt rather than take it away. Does anything about this process surprise you?

Fui cosiendo cada una de las 6 partes una a una y aproveche de colocar por el revés el "palito" hecho con fieltro. 2. Le dejé una abertura por un costado 3. Luego le puse sal gruesa para hacer peso, 1/3 de su tamaño 4. La terminé de rellenar con algodón. 5. Hice una flor de fuxico 6. Cosí 2 hojas con guata dentro, bordé unas equis en ellas. 7. Las cosí a la pera y al tallo. 8. Coloqué un botón en la unión de ambas hojas 9. Luego seguimos con la flor de fuxico (fuxico es una técnica brasileña de hacer flores y otras figuritas con retazos de tela). PASO A PASO FLOR DE FUXICO 10.
