Már minimális kötéstechnikai alapismeret birtokában is nekifoghatunk pulóvert kötni, hiszen akár négy téglalapból is összeállítható egy hordható darab. Kitartás viszont feltétlenül szükséges, mert egy XXL-es férfipulcsi hátát kötve könnyen lehet olyan érzésünk, hogy ennek már sosem lesz vége :). A minimál darabot végtelen variációban finomíthatjuk tovább. Kezdő próbálkozásnak remek pl. az alábbi sima kötésű raglán gyerekpulóver. Első kérdés az anyagszükséglet, ami nagyban függ persze a fonal vastagságától. Közepesen vastag fonalból piciknek 20, ovisoknak 25-35, kisiskolásoknak 35-40 deka körül számolhatunk (inkább vegyünk 5-10 dekával többet, a felesleget becserélhetjük). Készítsünk kötéspróbát a választott alapmintával (itt sima kötés) mérjük meg a csípőbőséget és számítsuk ki a kezdő szemszámot. A pulóvert az alsó széltől kezdjük kötni. Praktikus az első 4-6 centiméteren valamilyen passzémintát ( 1s1f, 2s1f stb.) használni mert a sima kötés felkunkorodik. A passzét 1 számmal kisebb tűvel kössük mint az alapmintát. Köthetjük síkban külön-külön az eleje és háta hónaljvonal alatti részét, de akár körben is. Egyenesen, szaporítás/fogyasztás nélkül a méret megszabta magasságig. Ha elértük a hónalj magasságát tegyük félre a törzsrészt és lássunk hozzá az ujjakhoz. Most számolás következik. Mérjük meg, ne túl szorosan, a csuklóbőséget és számoljunk hozzá kezdő szemszámot a már megkötött rész alapján. Mérjük meg a kényelmes karbőséget hónaljmagasságban, váltsuk át szemszámra. A csukló felett kb 4-6 centimétertől (ennyi a passzé szélessége) kezdve mérjük meg a kar hosszát a hónaljig és a már megkötött darabon számoljuk meg, hogy ez hány sornak felel meg. A csukló és a hónalji rész szemszámának különbségének felét (mert a szaporító sorokban az elején és végén is szaporítunk 1-1 szemet) kell elosztanunk a kar hosszának megfelelő sorszámra. Ennyi soronként kötjük majd a szaporító sort. Pl. a mintadarabon: a passzé kezdő szemszáma 27, a hónalji résznél 37 szem széles, az ujj simán kötött része 50 sor magas, ezért 10 soronként kellett szaporítanom 1-1 szemet a sor elején és végén is (az 1. és 2. ill. az utolsó előtti és az utolsó szem közötti szálba öltve.) Tehát az ujjak: 4-6 cm passzé, majd nagyobb tűvel sima kötéssel folytassuk tovább, az első és minden a kiszámoltnak megfelelő sorszámú sorban 2-2 szemet szaporítva. Ha készen van a két ujj a hónalj magasságáig, az eddig elkészült darabokat szedjük egy tűre a háta közepétől kezdve: 1/2 háta, egyik ujja, eleje, másik ujja, a háta maradék szemei. Újabb számolás: mérjük meg a kívánt nyakbőséget, számoljuk át szemszámra, a hónalj és a nyak távolságát számoljuk át sorok számába. A raglán szabás kialakításának lényege, hogy meghatározott körökben az ujjak ill. az eleje/háta rész találkozási vonalainak mindkét oldalán fogyasztunk 1-1 szemet, vagyis minden fogyasztási körben 8 szemet. A közös tűre felszedett össz szemszámból vonjuk ki a nyakbőségre számolt szemeket, ezt osszuk el nyolccal és ezt a számot osszuk el a nyakig még megkötendő körök számával. Ennyi körönként kell majd fogyasztanunk. Esetünkben: a háta/eleje/ujjak össz szemszáma 164, a nyakbőségre 36 szemet számoltam, tehát 128 szemet kell lefogyasztani. Egy körben 8 szemet fogyasztunk, tehát 16 fogyasztó kört kell készíteni. Mivel a hónalj és a nyak távolsága megmérve és átszámolva 32 kör magasságnyi, minden 2. körben kell fogyasztani. Folytassuk a pulóvert, körben kötve, sima szemekkel. A kiszámolt körökben fogyasszunk az ujjak és a főrészek találkozásánál (jelöljük meg a helyeket szemjelölővel!). A találkozási vonal előtti 2. és 3. szemet balra dőlő fogyasztással kössük össze, a találkozási vonal utáni 2. és 3. szemet simán. Egy körben összesen 8 szem fogyasztás! Ha így kötjük, a jellegzetes raglán vonalat markánsan kirajzolja az ujj/törzsi rész találkozásánál végigfutó dupla szemsor. (Mint a kötésben a legtöbb helyen, a raglán típusra is számtalan különböző változat létezik, lehet variálni a találkozási vonal szélességével, a fogyasztások fajtáival, kezdhetjük akár a nyaktól is a pulóvert ... A legtöbb leírás pontos útmutatót ad az elkészítéshez, bátran bele lehet vágni, vagy akár saját modellekkel is lehet kísérletezni.) A kívánt nyakbőség elérésekor a tűn maradt szemekkel kössünk fogyasztás nélkül néhány kör passzét, vagy mint itt, pont kihasználva a kunkorodást, sima kört. A szélét a lehető leglazábban, esetleg egy jóval vastagabb tűt használva láncoljuk le, hogy biztosan beleférjen a gyerkőc feje. A nyakrészt köthetjük síkban is, oldalát nyitva hagyva, majd horgolt gomblyukkal és gombbal zárva. Az ujjak ill, a törzsi rész összevarrásával fejezzük be a pulóvert.
