Depending on how you draw it, it will be the left half or the right half. This can be drawn in a running line as a border. It can also be used to form a frame, or a fill. It is quite flexible. This was indeed an interesting challenge from Laura at www.iamthedivaczt.blogspot.ca! In some ways a simple challenge - to use the two tangles Knightsbridge and Tipple. Ha - nothing is ever "simple". I tried to add some "shine" to Knightsbridge and that was not at all successful so ended up smudging it over so I'm hoping someone else has done this so I can see how it's done! I don't often add aura's, but it seems the best way to fill the empty space here. The end result, as usual, looks very different from the string and ideas I started out with, and I'm not unhappy with this though I'm looking forward to seeing what others have done to add more interest.

Some new patterns are in store. It has been quite a while since I've posted on my blog. I started these patterns 2 weeks ago and hadn't progressed past the play stage on scrap bits of paper. They basically follow the same form with some variations. Vikings remind me of the head gear the Norse men wore, hence the name. I was working on a few patterns that developed from a leafy/flame pattern. I remember as a young girl a group of us used to draw flame like patterns, starting from the bottom of the page and we would continue this pattern working our way up the page. We would colour them in rainbow colours and I thought it was quite pretty. So my first pattern, I named it 'Arums' after Arum Lily because that's what the pattern reminds me of. I did some variations; one is quite whimsical resembling 'gum nut babies'. This is something else I have doodled over the years. In one of my note books I have something that I have yet to construct into a pattern - I should get onto that one too :) Now I had Lilys on my mind - so the next pattern idea stemmed from 'Arums'. It is called 'Zantis' - I googled the botanical name for the Arum Lily and its called 'Zantedeschia', hence the name. It's quite an easy pattern to do and I think it looks lovely in a line, looking like a scroll. Thirdly, pattern 'Coroline' is also based on a Lily. It is more or less a front on view, as if you are looking into the flower. Now it too is scrolly, but in a different way. I have come up with some variations ie horizontal and vertical. I wondered whether the pattern would be adaptable in a less formal way, so I tried doing the pattern randomly and it worked out just nicely (well,I think so anyway). One of the first tangles I learnt was meer. It is beaut for line practice and shading. I was thrilled with this piece and was careful not to over do it which is easy for me to do as I find it hard to stop tangling!

Back in Zendala Challenge #9, I came up with a new pattern that I am calling Verve. I must credit my Husband with coming up with the name. I was stuck and asked for his help. I asked him to tell me what word or name comes to mind when he saw that design and he said "Verve". I'm not really sure that it visually embodies the definition of the word, but it works for me. :) The pattern is really quite simple and will easily fit into a circle shape that pops up in your string. I have been toying with it in some other designs that I have been working on. I have tried to carry the pattern into a line if you will. I'm still working on it but I am enjoying the process. I start with a 6 and a 9 that wrap around the circle. You can "wave" the stems quite a bit to add interest. I have just been shading where the lines "tuck" into each other but I imagine that shading where the lines bend will add some more dimension to the look as well. Also, the center circle can be filled in with anything you'd like or just left empty. I hope that you like this one. It has been a lot of fun for me. I confess, I have to fight myself to keep from filling every rounded space with this one.
