Or, the Hot Air Balloons could already be hanging as the backdrop, and the young woman places a tea light into the basket of the balloon as the value is being introduced. Resulting in a backdrop of beautiful glowing value balloons filling the sky. It contains some wonderful lessons using the idea of a Hot Air Balloon being tied to the 2012 Mutual Theme. (I think it does) :) * It begins with a description of an Hot Air Balloon Festival in New Mexico. This is what I took from reading the article - when keeping the theme in mind. Here are a few ideas coupled with a quote from the article: 1. We are to "Arise and Shine as a standard for the nations". 2. You cannot do it on your own. You need your Heavenly Father and a Savior. Your parents and family. Your leaders. A living prophet to guide you. It isn't an easy task to prepare the balloons for flight. And it could not be done alone. "Many of the ward members joined the chase crew—the people and vehicles who follow along behind the balloon on the ground and assist when it lands. That’s where the history comes in. Natalie and I just returned from girls' camp and we had a blast! Now that I have caught up on some much needed sleep, I wanted to post the crafts that we made at camp. I was asked to be in charge of the crafts and I had so many ideas running through my head. We narrowed it down to three ideas. We didn't get to make all three but I will be showing them all since I made a sample of each one. The young women keep asking me about the third project so we will be doing it for a mutual night. For the first craft each girl received one of these cute lunch bags that contained a 4X4 wood block and a picture of the Snowflake, Arizona temple. My brother was generous enough to provide me with a picture of the temple with this years' theme. This project was very simple. The girls just had to paint and sand the block, then cut the picture into a 4X4 square. (I ordered 4X6 prints) They modge podged the picture onto the block then tied a scrap of fabric around it. I brought a big bag of scrap fabric and several colors of paint. It was fun to see how creative the girls were. For the next project they received a cup with a chain and a pendant in it. I brought some scrap paper from all of my scrapbooky projects. They cut a square of scrapbook paper for the background, then added a monogram and other small embellishments such as rhinestones and small brads. I also brought some old magazines with me and some of the girls cut out letters or words or images from the magazines to put into their necklaces. We used a glue stick to glue the paper down temporarily so it wouldn't float up when we put the diamond glaze in. Then we covered the scrapbook paper with a thin layer of Diamond Glaze and let it dry for about 30 min. The Diamond Glaze dries hard with a glossy finish. The girls used their cups that we gave them to put the pendant in while it was drying. The girls loved this project and I noticed many of them wore their necklaces to church the next Sunday. The last project (the one that we didn't have time for) was a metal chalk board and magnets. Our Bishop happens to own a heating and cooling business so we got sheet metal scraps for FREE! Randy drilled holes in the metal to thread ribbon through for hanging. I primed the sheet metal, painted it with chalkboard paint and threaded the ribbon through the holes. The magnets are made with fabric flowers. The girls are so excited for this one and they keep asking me when we are going to do it. I think the girls really enjoyed all of the projects. They kept telling me thanks. They are so sweet. We had a great time and everyone got along so well. Camp was a blast! I can't wait until next year!

Measure the yarn with your arms stretched out and have a friend cut the yarn for you. - Begin threading and rethreading your needle with the yarn attached in and out of each hole connecting the cardboard and the artwork. - Use the scotch tape on the back of your cardboard to hold any 'loose ends'

First of all, I am well aware that this post is long overdue. At least I'm getting it done people! For those of you who aren't familiar with what I'm even talking about here, I'll quickly explain. Once a year the women's group in our church gets together for a 'Super Saturday' where we basically eat some good food and make some crafts. Who wouldn't want some of that?! I am the one in charge of planning this, and I was really excited with what I had come up with. I had two crafts available for the women to make, and I brought them to church a couple of weeks before our big day so the women could see what we were offering and decide if they wanted to come. The two crafts I had available for the women was the DIY Temple String Art and the DIY Reversible 2x4 Craft. These linked posts are tutorials to show you how to make each craft. This post is to show you how we set up everything for our Super Saturday. The plan for our Super Saturday was to have the two crafts and then some food to eat while we crafted. We needed our energy! We had sign ups go around for pastry items, cut fruit, juice, and chocolate milk in the weeks leading up to the activity. Before the women got to the church, myself and another girl set everything up. There were round tables and chairs already set out for us, so we just got everything ready. When everyone arrived we said an opening prayer and then I quickly explained how to do the crafts. I had also taped instructions to the tables so the could follow along there if needed. On the first table for the temple string art craft we put down newspapers, to help keep paint off of the tables...we had some acrylic craft paints, paint brushes, a water cup, and paper plates. We also had some sandpaper available if anyone wanted to smooth down the edges on the wood. The women painted the wood first and let it dry. This was the next table for the temple string art. We had hammers, nails, string, wire hangers for the back of the wood, the templates of the different temples, and a paper with the instructions. Here's a better picture of all of the templates. This was one of the tables for the 2x4 craft. Again, we had newspaper, paper plates, paint brushes, chalk markers, and stencils. (No one ended up even using the stencils, we apparently have some talented people in our ward when it comes to handwriting!) The other table for the 2x4 craft had Mod Podge, scrapbook paper, scissors, and glue. Each sister got 4 blocks. One that measured about 11", one that measured about 6", one that was about 4", and one that was about 3 1/2". Here's a sister working on the Salt Lake Temple (we'll call this template Salt Lake #2). The Provo City Center temple I love the look of the grey string and the color of wood she painted. My other version of the Salt Lake temple (we'll call this Salt Lake #1) Mount Timpanogos temple It was really neat to see everyone's different designs and style for the 2x4 craft. We mostly had Christmas themed, but we also had some people do Valentines Day, a friendship one, and a St. Patrick's Day.
