We had a fun activity for our youth last night. We made a huge "Mormon-opoly" board and had popcorn to snack on. We even had huge dice to roll. It was a little crazy but all in all, they had a great time. Quite a few were asking when we could play it again. Phrases not ordinarily heard in the Church..... "Somebody give me money cuz I own Bethlehem." "OK everybody, pay attention! We're getting ready to auction off the temple." "Are you in jail? - No, we're just visit teaching." "OK, we're trading the Urim & Thummim"

Every year for our Seminary Christmas party I like to have a game day. This year we did Minute to Win it Book of Mormon Games. It was a lot of fun. I'll share with you the games that we came up with. \ 1 Nephi 16:6 6 Now, all these things were said and done as my father dwelt in a tent in the valley which he called Lemuel. Give each team a sheet to make a tent. They can use anything in the room to help build their tent. They have one minute to build their tent. The team that can convince a judge that theirs is the best tent wins. 1 Nephi 4:19 19 And after I had smitten off his head with his own sword, I took the garments of Laban and put them upon mine own body; yea, even every whit; and I did gird on his armor about my loins. Give each team a roll of aluminum foil to create Laban's armor. The team with the best armor wins. 1 Nephi 16:10 10 And it came to pass that as my father arose in the morning, and went forth to the tent door, to his great astonishment he beheld upon the ground a round ball of curious workmanship; and it was of fine brass. And within the ball were two spindles; and the one pointed the way whither we should go into the wilderness. Each team hid the opposite team's liahona while a team member from each team went outside the room. When the team member came into the room the team yelled hot or cold to help their team member find their liahona. Both teams played at the same time, so the team member had to hear the voices from his own team. The first team to find the Liahona won. 1 Nephi 16:16 16 And we did follow the directions of the ball, which led us in the more fertile parts of the wilderness. Each team gets a gold Liahona (Christmas ornament) and has a team member push it with their nose from the starting line to the finish line. The first team member to finish wins. 1 Nephi 16:23 23 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did make out of wood a bow, and out of a straight stick, an arrow; wherefore, I did arm myself with a bow and an arrow, with a sling and with stones. And I said unto my father: Whither shall I go to obtain food? Each team got a bow that was not strung. They had to string their bow and then shoot an arrow at a picture of a desert goat. The first team to hit the goat won. Here's a picture of the goat that I used. 1 Nephi 17:8 8 And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto me, saying: Thou shalt construct a ship, after the manner which I shall show thee, that I may carry thy people across these waters. Each team has a member make a paper boat. Once they are done they have to blow their boat across the table with a straw. The first team to the other side wins. Jacob 5:68 68 And the branches of the natural tree will I graft into the natural branches of the tree; and thus will I bring them together again, that they shall bring forth the natural fruit, and they shall be one. Spread out 24 candy canes around the room. A member from each team has to pick up 12 candy canes (branches of Israel) with their mouth and bring them back to the Olive tree. Here is a copy of the tree printout: Words of Mormon 1:13 13 And it came to pass also that the armies of the Lamanites came down out of the land of Nephi, to battle against his people. But behold, king Benjamin gathered together his armies, and he did stand against them; and he did fight with the strength of his own arm, with the sword of Laban. Spread cups on the ground to be the Lamanites. Give each team a sword to gather up cups (Lamanites). The team with the most cups wins. Mosiah 2:8 8 And it came to pass that he began to speak to his people from the tower; and they could not all hear his words because of the greatness of the multitude; therefore he caused that the words which he spake should be written and sent forth among those that were not under the sound of his voice, that they might also receive his words. Each team has to write down Doctrinal Mastery 2:17. The team that is done first wins. Mosiah 27:18 18 And now Alma and those that were with him fell again to the earth, for great was their astonishment; for with their own eyes they had beheld an angel of the Lord; and his voice was as thunder, which shook the earth; and they knew that there was nothing save the power of God that could shake the earth and cause it to tremble as though it would part asunder. Spread marshmallows on the table. Each team is given a straw and a bowl. They are to suck up as many marshmallows as they can. The team with the most marshmallows wins. Alma 17:34 37 But behold, every man that lifted his club to smite Ammon, he smote off their arms with his sword; for he did withstand their blows by smiting their arms with the edge of his sword, insomuch that they began to be astonished, and began to flee before him; yea, and they were not few in number; and he caused them to flee by the strength of his arm. Spread the arms on the ground. Give each team a sword. The team that picks up the most arms with the sword (without using hands) wins. Here's a printout for the arms. Print them out on cardstock. Helaman 16:2 2 But as many as there were who did not believe in the words of Samuel were angry with him; and they cast stones at him upon the wall, and also many shot arrows at him as he stood upon the wall; but the Spirit of the Lord was with him, insomuch that they could not hit him with their stones neither with their arrows. Each team picks a person to represent Samuel the Lamanite. The team member stands in front of the opposite team. Each team throws marshmallows at the other team's Samuel. The Samuel that can dodge the most marshmallows wins. Ether 1:33 33 Which Jared came forth with his brother and their families, with some others and their families, from the great tower, at the time the Lord confounded the language of the people, and swore in his wrath that they should be scattered upon all the face of the earth; and according to the word of the Lord the people were scattered. Each team is given a bunch of plastic cups. The team that can stack their cups the highest wins. Ether 2:17 17 And they were built after a manner that they were exceedingly tight, even that they would hold water like unto a dish; and the bottom thereof was tight like unto a dish; and the sides thereof were tight like unto a dish; and the ends thereof were peaked; and the top thereof was tight like unto a dish; and the length thereof was the length of a tree; and the door thereof, when it was shut, was tight like unto a dish. Each team is given two plastic bowls with some duct tape. They are to tape their bowls together so that they are tight. Then each team has to spin their barge across the finish line. The team to cross the finish line first with a tight barge wins. It's always fun to give trophies to the winning team. Here is an idea that I have used in the past. I have updated the printout to say Book of Mormon. The printout is below. I printed it on gold cardstock that I bought at Walmart. Just click on the picture to make it large. Right click and save it into your pictures or copy and paste it into your printing program. This year I actually did not do the trophies. Instead I made them all Lehi's Luscious Liahonas. Click here to see how to make them. I love to do Minute to Win It Games. Here are some of my other games that you might like: Here is another fun game to play called Scripture Man

To find out more about how to pull of a Relief Society Fiesta and Friendshipping Activity read below, This seriously was the funnest activity and my Young Women really wished that it was a YW activity! It really would make for the funnest YW activity too. The women who came had a blast! The purpose of the activity was to have a great time, sharing and tasting each others salsa and guacamole recipes and just have a fun time getting to know each other. Decorations, we just had everyone on the committee bring whatever fiesta type decorations they had. We decorated the table we would have the salsa on & the board behind it. The food.... we asked sisters to bring their favorite salsa and guacamole. The committee provided all of the chips. We had these little plastic containers that they could put the guacamole or salsa in (the containers were just purchased at Walmart). We also had virgin pina colada drinks, with cute straws. Here is the recipe for the drinks: STRAWBERRY PINA COLADA: Source unknown Makes about 6 servings 2 cups frozen strawberries and 1 cup fresh stawberries 1/3-2/3 cup water 1/2 can cream of coconut 15 oz pineapple juice 3 cups ice 1/2 cup half and half Ina blender combine strawberries and water until smooth. Scoop in separate bowl and set aside. combine coconut, pineapple juice, ice and half and half until no large ice chunks exist. Add strawberries in and top with cream. For the activity we did a couple things. First, we all stood in a two lines facing each other. We played a game where questions were asked, such as if you like reading books more than watching movies come to this side, or if you would rather vacation on the beach then the mountains, come to this side. After that game we did speed friendshipping. Where we were in the two lines and partnered up with the person in front of us. We were given a sack and 1 minute to ask the person in front of us questions from the sack. Then when the time was up. One of the rows shifted to the right and you had a new partner to do it all over again with. Instead of sacks you could sit at a table and have the printables pasted on kabob sticks and put the sticks in glass jars. Next, we had a pinata!!! You guys it was seriously so fun to see the sisters hitting the pinata and then when it broke, it was a mad dash to the floor to get all of the goodies!! It was stocked with all kinds of chocolates, gum, hand sanitizer, etc. The goal of making friendships and having a good time as Relief Society Sisters was definitely accomplished!!! If you liked this idea, hold tight because more RS activity ideas are coming. In the mean time, check out these Visiting Teaching Posts! Make sure you follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest for even more ideas!
We are SURVIVOR fans at my house. Big-time fans. So when it came time to decide on a theme for what was supposed to be a surprise party for Jason's thirty-fifth birthday, the choice became pretty obvious. We would hold a SURVIVOR competition for couples. It was AWESOME! I believe that attention to the details contributed to making the party a success. So, here are the details: I found a great image of the SURVIVOR logo with a google search, and I used that on just about everything. The invitation had actual quotes from Jeff Probst's opening monologue with slight moderation (two hours, eighteen people, one SURVIVOR). They, along with a survey used for one of the challenges, were printed on postal packaging paper that I cut to fit through the printer. All edges of the papers were burned and they were tied up with jute. The invitations and surveys were delivered with a bandana that represented the tribal buff. I randomly drew names to divide all the party guests into the two tribes- Ulang and Tahun. The tribe names were chosen by typing the word "birthday" in google translator and converting it to Indonesian (the most exotic language available). To create the image on the flag, I ironed web interfacing to the back of the fabrics to make cutting out the pattern easier, used a print off of the logo as a template, and hot-glued everything together. I then sewed the logo onto each flag. Each flag was fastened to a pole so tribe members could carry them around easily (although we never really did). The game supplies were some of the most fun things to put together. They really added to the whole experience. Here are some explanations for each item pictured: 1- I found this incense burner at Wal-Mart for $10.00. A bit of a splurge, but isn't it awesome! 2- I saved this plastic container that had Christmas candies in it and wrapped it with fabric rope, some jute, and freshly cut bush branches and, voila! A vote collection urn. 3- I needed five dry erase boards for one of the games, but good heavens! They are expensive. So I took some foam board that I already had and glued cardstock on both sides. I cut a sheet protector to fit over one of the sides, hot-glued it down, and wrapped and hot-glued jute around the edges for a finishing touch. And because I seemed to be on a wrap-it-in-jute mood, I did the same with the five dry erase markers. 4- Fabric bags were quickly sewn and jute was used for drawstrings. These were used in a final immunity challenge where the bags were tied in various locations on the playground of the park. Contestants had to collect all four bags which contained pieces to a puzzle they had to put together. 5- It just so happened that I had these necklaces in my costume jewelry collection. The larger one was used as the main individual immunity necklace and the one pictured above it was used only once for a challenge. The challenge was to search the park to find the "hidden immunity necklace." 6- I wrapped a huge Sharpie marker just like the collection urn, and the papers for voting were cardstock with torn edges. 7- Of course, we had to have a new set of buffs for when the two tribes merged! 8- I hot-glued scraps of fabric onto wooden skewers to create the small flags that would easily be stuck in the ground for one of the challenges. Not pictured were the two tiki torches purchased for use in tribal councils. I know. Describing the game supplies was probably more information than anyone needed to know! Here is the birthday cake. I don't think it turned out too shabby considering it was my first attempt at making and using my own marshmallow fondant. I was pleased with the final result. And now, here are some pictures of the evening and actual SURVIVOR competition: Darren of Tribe Tahun writing his vote at Tribal Council Tahun with a slight lead over Ulang This one kills me. Three members from each tribe were blindfolded and guided by a caller to go out on the field and retrieve several tribal flags. Never mind that there were trees everywhere. These competitive men went running into the playing field at full speed! Ulang members waiting for their turn to vote at Tribal Council Clair of Ulang takes on Jason of Tahun in a test of balance The gross food challenge where competitors had to see who could eat a Twinkie the fastest Darren polished his Twinkie off quickly, while Doug (in the middle bending over) nearly choked on his Jason came so close to winning the final immunity challenge. He collected all his bags first and put the puzzle together fastest but left one piece in a bag. Doug came from behind to win immunity, and voted Jason off because he didn't think he could convince a jury to choose him over a birthday boy. He was probably right. After Jerimiah and Doug were "grilled" by the jury members, the votes were cast and Doug won by only two votes. He was presented with his million dollars (in the form of ten 100 Grand candy bars) and named sole SURVIVOR. Jason cutting and serving the cake No sooner had the party ended, when talks began to arise of plans for the next SURVIVOR competition. Bring it on! This post authored by Amber
