I have been doing YW stuff all afternoon, and I am loving it. There is so much good stuff created by so many creative people out there, I can't even begin to compare myself to that kind of creativity and ability! I've been taking and using so many ideas from other generous leaders out there, I thought I'd share a little of what I did put together. You know, give back to the universe mentality. Maybe some stranger somewhere might find it useful or interesting or time saving on their part. Thus, I share with y'all. First off, we have just called a brand new class presidency and this give me the new found determination to be more organized than I was the last presidency. I tend to get lazy and "don't fix what isn't broken" mentality when in actuality, there are improvements that can be made everywhere. First stop was my class presidency meetings. It's been far too long since we've had a productive meeting. I have been trying to get the girls more involved in the leadership part of the meetings, and have been failing miserably at directing them how this is done. I looked everywhere I knew on the internet for cute agendas already made by the crafty ladies out there - but couldn't find what I liked. So - I made one myself. It fits my needs and will give the girls direction for our short, productive future meetings. :) YW Agenda here Secondly, the girls in my Mia Maid class are struggling with activity ideas. We have a very small group, and seem to be repeating the same activities every week! So - I did some research and compiled a list of 100+ things to do for Mutual night. I realize this list is all in my jargon, but most of them are easy to understand and adaptable for any geographic location or class size. By putting it onto one sheet of paper, I can now give the girls a copy and we can go down the list; filling in the weeks that need Class Activities planned. This should help us meet the "3 month's ahead" request from the Bishop. YW Activity Idea list PDF here It isn't much, and it isn't as creative and cute as some of those other things, but I am excited for what help it could bring for me. If you find it helpful, let me know in a comment and I'll be more apt to post other things that I am doing for my class.

A few ideas for LDS Young Women Leaders
We had a wonderful time at girls camp at Mia Shalom. Our Stake Girls camp theme was S.T.A.R.S (Shining Together As Righteous Sisters). Each ward had a value color. We were GOLD, so fun and so pretty. For our "Mailboxes" this year my Laurel Adviser made the cutest little buckets. She found the pails at IKEA for $0.77. Her husband then drilled holes in the sides to for the rope handle. They turned out super cute! The mailboxes are where they then can put their secret sister treats, letters, etc.. We had a each of the girls chose a favorite "star" quote to share up at camp. Each day we had a few of them tell us why they chose that quote. They then could glue the star quote in their camp journals. I made the girls these cute little Star hairclips and attached them to my star quote. (I just used vinyl paper they have at hobby lobby and glued felt on the back) Each day we have one of the leaders give a short little devotional. I talked about how we are daughters of a king. I made these cute little star "crowns" to give to them after. I found the star ribbon at Etsy HERE I actually ended up using a bigger star than pictured below but I forgot to take a picture of the bigger one. I challenged my YW to read the Book of Mormon before girls camp this year. They had a few months to do it. I found these adorable necklace on Etsy HERE for the girls that finished. This year we gave each of the girls a lanyard that had our schedule for the week. On the back was a place they could mark off their certification requirements. Each night we had a leader leave a little pillow treat on the girls beds. I'm sad I forgot to take a picture of all of them. these cute little bags were so tiny and cute. They were filled starburst and had the cutest little poem attached. Cute little girls camp "prescription" It was filled with skittles. we had a couple of crafts the girls could do each day. Another thing I am sad I forgot to take pictures of some. The girls loved these cute bandanna bags. They were perfect to hold their journals, scriptures, pens, etc... This is what our camp journals looked like this year. They turned out great! We had the girls make Marshmallow guns. Then we brought different duck & washi tape and let the girls decorate them. We then had some fun little shooting competitions. I saved the decorations we used at our Camp Kick-Off party. see HERE We used them to decorate the pavilion. It was a rainy week but when the rain cleared it was gorgeous!!

Everybody stands in a circle. Person in the middle throws up the ball and yells a name of someone standing in the circle (we will call him Bob). Bob runs in and tries to catch the ball before it touches the ground. If Bob doesn’t catch the ball everybody else will run away until Bob gets the ball and yells “freeze!” Then Bob will (frozen himself) try to throw the ball and tag someone. If Bob hits someone, then that person is out. If not then the Bob is out. The game continues with either Bob standing in the middle of the circle – or the person he tried to tag with the ball, but missed.

Be Brilliant. I have to start this post by saying, I don't like to read. But weirdly enough, I love books. Seems odd, but I really do. I like the way they look. Especially old books. So when I was planning this RS activity, I was hoping either one: my RS sisters felt the same as me about books and would be intrigued to come. Or two, they really did like to read. (either way you can never win with knowing how many or who will come. Just DO your best!). Moving on. Here's what the invitation looked like: Would you want to come????? and the poster in front of each foyer. (printed at Fed Ex Kinko's, mounted to a foam board). Night of looked like this: As the sisters entered, they were greeted by this table. It had pens and "old book file" looking cards for notes. and they placed their wrapped book if they wanted to be part of the book exchange. We started with a special speaker (a member of the stake presidency). He did an AMAZING job!!!! He spoke about the Book of Mormon. And he pulled stories from the BOM that represented any genre of book/novel. For instance: Action, Romance, Adventure, Comedy, etc. He said the BOM is for anyone and everyone and bore his testimony of it's truthfulness. After, we all discussed and shared as sisters our favorite books. Sisters wrote down the titles and author of any appealing books mentioned on their note card. And hey, I even wrote down a few. Lastly those who wanted to make their "I Like Big Books and I Cannot Lie" bags did and we traded books for the exchanged. It turned out to be a fun and successful night. And lastly, as usual, here are some random pics from the internet that helped inspire this night. Maybe they will be useful to you too :) Here is a blank jpeg copy of the invite :) Below is my template for the envelope: Add the date in the middle with your editing program (I use Photoshop). Upload it in Word, size it accordingly and print onto a manilla envelope. It might take a few tries to get the sizing just right! Good luck!!!

I am a convert to the LDS Church. I was ordained to the office of a Priest shortly after I was baptized and then later I was ordained to the office of the Melchizedek Priesthood. I am trying to trace my Priesthood line of Authority.
I am one who, on occasion, enjoys discovering unique items at stores like HomeGoods, TJMaxx, Marshall's, Nordstrom Rack and Ross. Usually home decor or clothing! But, this time I found a different kind of treasure - an oil lamp. * I found this at Ross, and at $4.99 I had to get it. :) In fact, I bought two of them. I found another one tucked behind a picture frame. I was telling my mother-in-law about my find, and she said we should find 8 more. We were definitely on the same page. :) * * I giggled when I found these lamps, only because of a talk (see below) I had come across after the new mutual theme "Arise and shine forth, that thy light may be a standard to the nations" had been introduced. * RESOURCE Your Light - A Standard to All Nations, Elder James E Faust, April 2006 * Here are a few notes from his talk: In the Savior’s parable of the ten virgins, each young woman had a lamp. Clearly, this parable has both a temporal and a spiritual application. Oil can be purchased at the market. But another kind of oil, spiritual oil that is not for sale, can be accumulated only by our daily good works. * The parable tells what happened as all ten young women waited for the bridegroom. The bridegroom came at the darkest hour, when least expected. It was midnight, and the foolish five had run out of oil. You might wonder why the five wise virgins could not share their oil with the other five. It was not selfishness on their part. Spiritual preparedness cannot be shared in an instant because we each fill our lamps drop by drop in our daily living. * The late President Spencer W. Kimball defined those drops of oil for us a few years ago when he said: * “There are oils that keep the gospel burning brightly. One type of oil is the oil of family prayer. It illuminates us and makes us bright and cheery but is difficult to obtain at midnight. One drop or two will not keep the lamp burning long. … “Another type of oil is the oil of fasting. The last midnight is late to start disciplining our lives in preparation for the great day of the Lord. … “Another oil that is not available at midnight is the indispensable oil of home service. This rare oil of service is accumulated through visits to the sick, through lending a helping hand. … “There is another oil that all will need—rich or poor, sick or well. Its light is brilliant and increases with use. The more that is used, the more that is left. It is easy to purchase in the day but not available at night. This is the tithing oil. “There is one … oil that is so precious that without adding it to the other oils no wick will burn. Without it, the light from all the others will dim and go out. This is the oil of chastity.” * My dear young friends, many of you put oil into your lamps last year when you followed President Hinckley’s challenge to read the Book of Mormon. You can continue to do so every time you read the scriptures, partake of the sacrament, and offer your daily prayers. And as you each put oil into your lamps, your light will become “a standard for the nations.” * POSSIBLE 10 HOUR PROJECT & PROGRAM The Ten Virgins by Emily Freeman Ten Women, Ten Stories - A Musical Parable found here at Deseret Book * This would make for a wonderful ten hour project for more than one of the young women. The CD/Songbook combo includes CD with vocals and songbook which includes the script, sheet music and performance track. Under direction of their young women leaders, the girls could do everything from: scheduling the building set design (teaching them how to keep it simple) musical practices (could take 10 minutes during opening exercises on Sunday) costume design (again, keep it simple) invitations/flyer programs for the night ADDITIONAL RESOURCES *

We LOVE General Conference and look forward to listening every 6 months. If you are a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints you know what I am talking about. This is a time when we have the opportunity to listen to our prophet, the 12 apostles and other general authorities in a worldwide conference. General Conference is Saturday March 31st and Sunday April 1st, with two sessions each day, one starting at 10 A.M. and the other at 2 P.M. Everyone is welcome to watch here. We usually watch general conference at home over the internet. It can be a long 2 hours for our 3 year old so I put together a little activity to help keep him involved and wanting to watch. My hope is to help him identify the prophet and the 12 apostles. We usually hear from all 12 apostles except for 2 that usually speak during the priesthood session (Saturday night) so we will have 2 activities left over that we can do sometime between conference sessions. Here is the activity I put together: It's pretty simple, just a basket of different kinds of treats and activities that he can do while listening to conference. I put a picture on each activity so he can watch to see who speaks and then find the activity/treat with their picture on it. I put together 15 activities one for our prophet, his two councilors and the 12 apostles. You can't see a lot of the things that I put in the basket because I wanted the focus to be on the prophet/apostles not on the activity. Here is a list of what I put in the basket: Connect 4 game Crayons and Coloring Book brownie mix...to make during the session Snickers candy bar animal crackers goldfish Magnetic doodle board M&M's Chalk for our chalk board Apple Magnet Noah's ark tin Beads/necklace Fruit snacks Quiet book Stickers I used pictures from a quiet book I made awhile ago. Heather put it together over at simply fresh designs. You can get the templates for your personal use by visiting her site. I love it because each page has a photo of the prophet along with facts about them. I used these pages instead of pictures so we can learn about each one as part of the activity. Enjoy General Conference and have a wonderful weekend!
