Penny Richards: "My kid deserves a completely unique and exuberant wheelchair. So I'm yarnbombing a plain black spare wheelchair with absolutely no personality into something full of color and texture and convenient upgrades (like pockets!) and fun extras (like jingle bells and mirrors and beads), with crochet, hand sewing, and embroidery, mostly using secondhand materials."
This week is Worldwide Knit-in-Public Week! So we hooked, cause that's what we do, and there were some knitters as well, and we chose a nice, prominent, public spot, and sat down at Tribeca in Lynnwood Bridge, Pretoria. Taking over the yuppies' spot (Behold the beautiful blankets under the table, up there at 9 o'clock!) They serve a great breakfast and cappo, and my current favourite everywhere...the flourless chocolate cake. And what do you say about a place that serves their sugar packets in Le Creuset? Le Creuset et le crochet Of course we were not just crocheting away...each of us quickly hooked one flower (pattern: Yvestown Flower Coaster), cause there was some dressing up to do... If there is artwork, we'll bomb it! She looked a bit cold, up there on her donkey... Much better now! Ties in nicely with our yarn bombing over the weekend, don't you think? PS...some of the hooking that took place over coffee... Beautiful blankets in the making and finished Desiring some One of a Kind yarns

If you are a fiber artist or involved in the craft world, you may have heard the term "yarn bombing" a few times. So, what is yarn bombing? It's an art form using yarn in different ways. There is no set definition of yarn bombing but it's well known as a colorful art installation using knitted or crocheted pieces. Usually done in secret for a surprise element. It is also known as guerrilla knitting, kniffiti, grandma graffiti, urban knitting, graffiti knitting, wool bombing, and yarn storming. Despite the knitting-heavy phrases, it's quite popular with crochet as well. It has gained popularity through the years, though it is not without criticism, either. There are many questions surrounding this activity and we're doing our best to answer all of them. These knit and crochet yarn pieces are usually made as coverings and are found "bombing" trees, hydrants, fences, buildings, street lamps, and similar everyday items. Read on to learn about the history, if these art installations are illegal, the pros and cons, yarn bombing groups and events, and much more.
The stairs of the Helsinki Cathedral were filled with the Guinness world record attempt for the largest crocheted patchwork quilt of the world, making a quite large blanket.
One of my favorite stitch patterns is just a repeat alternating front post and back post double crochet stitches across the row.

Yulia Ustinova is a Russian artist who uses the art of crocheting to replicate famous artworks or to arrange new shapes totally made by her. She has been formally trained in art and has taken her training along with using the old craft of crochet to sculpture her ‘big women’ or in Russian, “tetki” – it means uneducated and ungroomed women. She was born in an artistic family. Her mother is a sculptor, her father is a book illustrator. Her mother is very good at handiwork, so she has taught her how to crochet when she was 5 years old. At 11 she entered a professional artistic school learning the Academy of pictorial arts. There she used to practice painting, graphics, sculpture, and during my spare time – crochet. She crocheted everything – clothes, simple toys, things for interiors. She don`t know exactly how, but when she was already working as an illustrator, an idea occurred to her. She have combined sculpture and love for crochet © 2018. All images are copyrighted © by Yulia Ustinova.
