How a writing journal can help with your writing, your creative ideas and your writing business. My notebooks or journals have been instrumental in turning around my attitude to writing. It has increased my focus, encouraged my ideas and helped me turn one sentence into a fifty thousand word workbo
It is so exciting to see kids beginning to write. They have such creative minds, so much to say, and when they can finally express it in writing, it is so much fun to see! This is why I created the Beginning Writing Journals. This is a way to document progress and growth over the course of a school year. Each month will have 20 journal prompts. These prompts will be over a wide range of topics and types of writing. Beginning Writing Journals For most of the prompts there will be two levels to support writers. One version with more lines to write on, and one version with more space to illustrate their thoughts. ALL prompts have a picture/word bank to support writers thinking and spelling. Each month there will be narrative writing prompts. Students will also get to practice writing letters. Creative writing is my sons absolute favorite. My plan with these is to let him write as much as he desires, and then scribe the rest for him. I know he will come up with the most hilarious stories, and I will love looking back on these one day. Each month will have writing list prompts. Also information writing prompts will be included. This is another favorite for my son. I'm not sure where he has obtained all this content knowledge, but he always has so much to say for these prompts. Even beginning writers can write How To prompts! Labeling prompts will be included each month! I cannot wait to use these this year with my son, and I hope you enjoy them as well. This bundle has a WHOLE YEAR of writing prompts (August- May)! You can find the Beginning Writing Journals in my TPT Shop! Beginning Writing Journals

Hi Friends! Confession time…writing is my LEAST favorite subject to teach. I know, I know…teachers shouldn’t have favorites! In all seriousness, teaching writing to first graders was not my favorite subject to teach. I was in a place where I thought, “If it’s boring to me, isn’t it boring for them?” I desperately needed to spice things up. That year I made it my professional goal to improve my writing instruction. I spent time reading, researching best practices and developing a system that would work in my classroom. As a result the Daily Quick Writes were born. The idea behind the quick write is to focus more on the quality of writing, instead of the quantity. A quick write prompt should only take 5-10 minutes…we all have time for that! The prompts are versatile and cover a wide range of topics. They were designed to encourage your students to express themselves as they learn the art of writing! I typically used a writing prompt a day as a writing workshop warm-up, however it can be used any time that works for your classroom. The original Daily Quick Writes were designed for kindergarten and 1st grade students. When I moved to 3rdgrade I developed Daily Quick Writes for BIG KIDS. The prompts are similar, providing an amazing opportunity for differentiation! Over the past few years I have had many requested for a blank version of the Daily Quick Writes paper. I have good news friends, I FINALLY did and it is a FREE download! Daily Quick Writes Subscribe to get the your download & check your email!
