The Nigerian Writers Awards (NWA) is a project set to reward excellence, create a synergy between budding and established writers in Nigeria and to brand the Nation positively through the skills of writing using the media; more so to celebrate Nigerian Writers. It is a yearly event and the first-of-its-kind awards for all writers of different genres in Nigeria to come together and celebrate their successes over the year. It is also platform to recognize and commend those who have done well in different fields of writing and have contributed to the upliftment of the society. There was thorough screening on nominees, the evaluation was based on the criteria; Originality, Creativity, and Impart. The award considered nominations of writers who have proven their worth and commitment in writing for activities in the following period under review March 2015- May 2016. Entries were received from individuals, private sectors, civil society or government and will be rewarded based on the categories. Business writer of the year, Entertainment, Feature, Blog, Health, Sports, Script, Song (RnB, Pop, Indigenous), Poetry (Written, Spoken word, poetry promoter), Campus, Indigenous (Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Pidgin), Fiction, Non-fiction, Faith-based, Comic, Motivational, Romance, Child/teenage, Young writer,Writer of the year and Diaspora Writer of the year. The 2017 Award ceremony is scheduled to hold on the 19th of February 2017 at Ace Olivia, Lagos City Mall, Onikan, Lagos. Red carpet/exhibition starts by 4pm and the main event kicks off at exactly 6pm. Absolute Hearts Media's Babatunde 'Tunny' Ogunnowo and Hafeez Onitilo are nominees in the 'Blogger Of The Year' and 'Non-fiction Writer Of The Year' category respectively.
