"In A Minor Mood" by Joe Sullivan arranged and transcribed by Bob Zurke. From the Modern Piano Transcriptions of Popular Rhythm Standards series. 6 page solo in excellent condition, Previous owners signature. No writing,no tears or creases. 1939c. Virtuoso Boogie / Jazz. Born in Hamtramck, Michigan on January 7, 1912, he was already using the name Bob Zurke professionally by the age of 16 when he first recorded with a group led by pioneering female jazz bassist Thelma Terry. Through the end of 1936, Zurke worked in various Detroit clubs, mostly as a band pianist, and occasionally went on tour with other groups. Zurke subsequently worked with the William Morris Agency to form his own band. They debuted at an RCA Victor recording session in July 1939 as Bob Zurke and his Delta Rhythm Orchestra, In 1937, Zurke was hired by bandleader Bob Crosby. It was with Crosby that Zurke gained notice; he arranged for the band's book and was a featured soloist on several numbers. In 1938, Bob Zurke was named the winner in the piano category in the Reader's Poll from Down Beat and, in the course of Alan Lomax' Library of Congress interviews, was singled out by Jelly Roll Morton as the "only one (jazz pianist of the present time) that has a tendency to be on the right track." During his lifetime, Zurke was considered one of the finest white boogie-woogie pianists at a time when such players were few. Zurke had small hands and needed to develop special techniques to adjust for his lack of reach; this led to him developing a technique and style uniquely his own. His ability as an arranger and transcriber helped to put pieces by non-readers into a playable, published form, Critical and public reception of both the records and the Delta Rhythm Band's first appearances were initially positive, but Zurke proved to be unreliable, unpredictable and somewhat volatile as a leader. He remarried and resettled in Los Angeles in late 1941. In August 1942, Zurke began an engagement at the Hangover Club in L.A. that he held until the end of his days.

Draconic was the language of dragons.[5] While the term was used by a few dragons, it was largely an exonym, with the proper term for the language being Glav (meaning "speech/converse").[6] It used its own distinct alphabet, called Iokharic.[7] Other native speakers included members of draconic-related races, such as kobolds and dragonborn,[8] and members of reptilian races such as lizardfolk and troglodytes.[9] The language was commonly used for arcane writings, so it was commonly learned by el

Karel Svolinský 3-colour lithograph, produced for 'Signature-A Quadrimestrial of Typography and Graphic Arts' under the exacting standards of its editor, Oliver Simon. The lithograph was originally made in 1938 for a Czech publication but is here reproduced in its original form by the original publisher. Printed on Basingwerk Parchment. The detail reads as follows: 'The Editor wishes to thank Mr Method Kaláb, of the printing office of Průmyslová tiskárna, Prague, for his generosity in printing and presenting the inset of the work of Karel Svolinský.' The printing house was founded in 1922 by the Central Union of Czechoslovak Industry. Please note that the artist's name is signed in the plate-it is not handwritten. Print run was limited to c.750 copies only. Karel Svolinský (1896-1986) was a Czech painter, graphic artist, illustrator, typographer and creator of writing, set designer and also taught at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (1945-70). In 1925, his ceremonial print of Macha Maya (for which he designed the original typographic font and created a number of illustrations) was exhibited at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris. In 2001, there was a major retrospective exhibition of his work in the National Gallery in Prague . Unmounted. Sheet size c.9.75x7.25 ins.. A choice here as there is a further 6-colour lithograph, arguably even more attractive (see photo 2), to reverse-does not show through. Light sunning to extreme edges-will not show at all once mounted. Picture 3 is for information and does form part of the sale. Our usual packaging: Beautifully presented in cello bag backed by acid-free card. Will be also sent in cardboard reinforced DO NOT BEND envelope. Signature Vol. 9 from the first series of Signature, a thrice yearly journal devoted to typography and graphic arts. Very rare and sought after original etching and aquatint by Graham Sutherland, ‘Clegyr-Boia II’: Landscape In Wales, 1938 (Ref: Tassi 33. Graham Sutherland, Complete Graphic Work). Commissioned for Signature Vol. 9 from the first series of Signature, a thrice yearly journal devoted to typography and graphic arts. Sheet size c.9.5x7.5 inches. Limited to 750 copies. Rare. Printed at The Curwen Press in July 1938. Print in very good condition. Photo 3 is for information as to source and does not form part of the sale. From the Tate site: 'This etching was the frontispiece to Signature, No.9, published in March 1938. Signature was a magazine devoted to typography and the graphic arts, edited by Oliver Simon and published by the Curwen Press; an article by Sutherland on ‘A Trend in English Draughtsmanship’ appeared in the third issue in July 1936. According to Felix Man, there was only a single state of this etching, which was printed in an edition of about 1000, plus a few artist’s proofs; the plate was subsequently destroyed. The subject reflects Sutherland’s new interest in the landscape of Wales. Both subject and treatment are similar to some of his watercolours and oils of the same period, such as ‘Black Landscape’ 1937 (Cooper, pl. IOC) or ‘sun setting between Hills’ 1938 (Cooper, pl. 14a). Sutherland writes (letter of 18 August 1972) that ‘the word “Herons” half obliterated at the bottom centre was intended to be the title “Herons Ghyl” which I later abandoned’.' (Published in The Tate Gallery Report 1970–1972, London 1972.) 'This print shows Clegyr Boia, the rocky outcrop west of St David's, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Sutherland visited the area each summer from 1934 to 1939. His pensive and atmospheric Welsh landscapes came to be seen as premonitions of war, expressive of the prevailing mood of anxiety and menace.' (Tate.) All shipping options include tracking, signature and insurance. Our usual packaging: Beautifully presented in cello bag backed by acid-free card. Will be also sent in cardboard reinforced DO NOT BEND envelope. Where possible, we also include a sheet with information about the print.
