Voici mon project : Hello Sweeties Time for a new color challenge at Lindy's Gang. And here is the February color combo. You can find all the information to participate on Lindy's Gang blog. First I primed the background with clear gesso. Next, I added a design with a stencil and 3D Gloss Gel. While the gel was still wet, I sprinkled some Geranium Coral Blush EP and embossed it. Next, I cut the background to open some pocket. Of course, I glued a piece of paper under each opening I've just made. I colored the background with Wild Honeysuckle Coral and Sweet Violet Purple Teal. I found that it was a little bit to pink for my taste, so I added some Long John's Silver and Steel Shimmer to mute it. I colored a few flowers as well as some die cut leaves with the same colors I used to color the background. When everything was dry, I glued all the embellishments: pieces of doily, flowers, leaves and metal embellishments. To finish the layout, I added some moss, Art Stone, and microbeads. Hi there and a very warm welcome to you. Thanks for popping bye today. I have a special share for you today. It has been so long since I have done a vintage layout and I have been bursting at the seams to do one ever since my MIL passed on some most wonderful photos of family. I must admit that I don't know who most of these people are but I am learning quickly! So today is a wedding photo of my husbands Grandmothers sister....Dorothy. She was such a stunning woman. I am unsure where abouts the photo was taken but be assured it is on my list of questions to ask. So this layout was completed using Fabscraps "Elegant Chic"and yes I know you have heard it all before but these paper and chipboards are just divine. This is my fourth layout and I am on my fifth at present. It is sitting on my table half finished. I have dabbled in some mixed media for this layout bringing out the gesso and misting sprays, but I have mostly used coffee on this with lots of lace and trims that I have dyed using my mists and coffee. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did creating it. I have titled this one "2". For this layout I have used lots of coffee to stain the layout with drips and splatters. The flower trim that you can see above have all been dyed with either coffee or mists. I have used Vintage Pink here.....beautiful colour to co-ordinate with coffee and black. I have also used a little Sunflower (yellow) mist here and there. Along with the lace motif and flower trim I have included some cheesecloth and mini lace doilies. The Fabscraps chipboard used here is a piece called Elegant Chic. I have simply cut this piece in half and cut out the wording from the centre, gessoed and ink it and adhered it top and bottom of photo. Keep scrolling for a product list and full detailed instuctions. Well that's all from me, I hope you have enjoyed this layout and I hope to see you here again soon. Tina x Products Used Fabscraps Fleur C71 007 x1 Fabscraps Flying Bird C71 006 x 1 Fabscraps Shabby Flowers C71 005 Fabscraps DC71 005 Elegant Chic Chipboard Lace and Sequinned Motif Mini Doily Cheesecloth Clear and White Gesso Mists (Vintage Pink, Sunflower) Coffee Stencil Impasto Medium Various Acrylic Stamps Flat Pearls Prima Flower Trim Miscellaneous Flower Sprays Prima Button and Frame Archival Ink - Jet Black Distress Inks Pumice Stone / Walnut Stain / Antique Linen and Black Soot Cabichon Price Tags Instructions: Take Fabscraps "Fleur" patterned paper and adhere to a sturdy background ( I have used Chipboard for this). Coat base paper with clear gesso and heat set. Run a brush of cooled coffee around the outside of base paper and again heat set. Ink edges of base paper with Black Soot distress ink. Soften a section of your patterned paper running from top left to bottom right of layout using a sponge and white gesso. Wipe off excess with a baby wipe whilst blending. Do some stenciling with impasto and heat set. Run a piece of cheesecloth from the left hand top to the right hand bottom of your layout. Cut a section out at about 3/4 of the way as shown in layout. Secure with Gel Medium and heat set. Using misting sprays and ready-made precooled coffee colour your background. Apply some stamping randomly around the layout with Jet Black Archival ink. Take a lace motif and dip into your coffee. I washed mine off with a little water afterwards so it wasn't too dark. Dry and cut a section out to sit at the right bottom corner of layout. Adhere ontop of the cheesecloth. Cut from remaining Fabscraps patterned papers of Flying Bird and Shabby Flowers matting pieces to sit your photo on. I have cut 4 differing sized pieces Distressed each and run a brush of coffee around each and secured them behind the photo using mounting foam. Adhere to top left of layout as shown. Tuck in remaining motif piece at base. Prepare chipboard by coating with gesso (White). Heat set and ink with Pumice Stone Distress ink to give and off white colour. Cut in two and cut words from the centre. Adhere one piece at the top of the photo and one at the base of the photo as shown. Mist Flower Trims and smaller flower sprays and dry each. Adhere to layout as shown. Adhere pearl centres to each flower trim. Tuck in a mini doily and adorn with a cabichon and frame at right of photo. Fussy cut flying bird ink with a little Antique Linen Distress Ink and mount atop of flowers at right of photo. Ink edges of a couple of pricing tags with black ink and also a little walnut stain distress ink. Wrap string from tags around flower cluster and let drop down. Adhere where it falls. Adorn the tags with a wood button. This is my title "2". Finish off with splatters of black ink and coffee and heat set. Your layout is now ready to frame and hang!!
Story Behind the Painting This piece started as a painting called ‘Two Pints’ and later had the lettering added to embody ‘Belfast, No Mean City’. The image is of an ordinary, working class man, relaxed with a cigarette and two pints of Guinness as he finishes a hard day’s work. The working men’s clubs and bars around Harland & Wolff’s shipyard in East Belfast would be filled with men after their shift. Heavy coats and collarless shirts with a woollen waistcoat were their everyday clothes. The phrase ‘No Mean City’ is a quotation from the bible where Paul, the apostle, says he is a citizen of ‘No Mean City’ (an obscure or insignificant city) in his case a Roman citizen. In Bradley’s painting he uses the phrase to give weight and significance to his hometown of Belfast, of which he is immensely proud. Good morning! We have our mixed media Monday post! And it is Guaranteed to inspire you with our design Teams Creativity! First up I am sharing a gorgeous creation from Stephanie using the Scraps Of Elegance 'Lynne's Garden Terrace' kit! Isn't it beautiful??? Here are all the fabulous details... Next up is a captivating layout by Lisa Griffith also using the Scraps Of Elegance kit.... She started with the Prima paper 'Princess Papillon' from the Butterfly collection as her background, and then using her inks I painted on two large circles as the base of her design. Then she used the Prima stamp 'Peeled Paint' that came with kit with brown ink. She added some of the Prima Butterfly flowers and also some leaves that she cut out of paper scraps using the Prima leaf dies. And finally I am going to share another delightful project from the Scraps Of Elegance kit, this time from the talented Patricia! This is her lovely daughter... She used a Prima Mask and white Crackle Paste from Art Extra-vagance for texture. The Prima crochet Doilies are from a previous kit. The beautiful Butterfly is as usual from Renea Bouquets. She made some elements from the beaded string found in the Main Kit. She simply glued them into a circle on my craft-mat and once dry, she colored them with some alcohol Inks. She achieved the diagonal strips from the sketch by tearing and punching strips of paper and layering them on the top of the page. Textures achieved by using white crackle Texture Paste and spats using the Gelatos mixed with some water. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Art journal pages, mixed media projects and scrapbooks by Saadia Nawaz Durrani.
I found a canvas in the boot of my car the other day {it's pretty scary in there, I'm always losing things} and I loved the long shape of this one, it was just enough to spark my mixed media mojo back into action! And so I grabbed out all my mediums, my fave Donna Salazar goodies and played... here's the result! I ripped up some papers from Donna's Natural Beauty collection and glued them to the canvas, and then overlaid some torn and scrunched up dictionary papers from Donna's Mix'd Media Stax 2 and glued these down also to create a collage style background. Next I adhered an old doily and a couple of chipboard shapes from Want 2 Scrap, then using Donna's large Heart Stencil from Want 2 Scrap created the heart patterns in the top left and bottom right corners. I also added some interesting texture mediums I have, such as resin sand and opaque flakes. Once dried, I then spritzed on the colour, River Mossy and Ice Rink Smooch Spritz as well as some Peaches Mix'd Media Ink straight from the refill bottle. I sprayed it all with water to allow the colours to run. To help highlight the textures further I added some platinum metallic rub over the canvas. Then it was time to embellish!! The title was added using GCD Chipboard Alpha Stickers and some printed text. The colour was added using Mix'd Media Inx and softened by spraying lightly with water. I cut and rolled some bitty blossoms using various papers from Donna's 6x6 paper pads. The flower petals were touched with Glue Gloss and then sprinkled with Fairy Dust Glitter for added shimmer! I also cut a butterfly from with Donna's Wonderful Wings die, and overlaid it with some Wonderful Wings Bling from Want 2 Scrap. I scattered some glass pebbles through the canvas and finished it all off with a matching satin bow. Thanks for stopping by today! Until next time take care of you! www.mistrabutterfly.blogspot.com

This adorable farmhouse was designed by Magnolia Homes located in Texas, United States. They used functional objects to decorate this lovely place and brick floor, faux door panel, distressed wood for art on walls are the other noteworthy features of this house.
Last Wednesday saw me in Oxford to pick up a frame for a painting. After our last visit to the Ashmolean and with my new determination to do more observational sketching, I decided to spend a few hours pottering there. I always like to begin with this staircase, as it takes me back to my art student days and the first time I breathlessly and reverently climbed them to visit the Renaissance rooms. I can still remember the emotional choke in my throat (dramatic child that I was) as I paid my respects to the Masters and began my own long artistic journey. I like the continuity of returning with another sketchbook, over twenty years on, still tramping that same road, which has twisted in ways I could not have dreamt of then. And now I find the new extension has caught my heart too. It also leaves me breathless, though for a different reason. I actually feel a little sick if I get too near the glass partitions and look down - or up. But I love the way you can watch the other galleries and their occupants on all levels, like a giant cultural ant's nest coiling round the central space which seems to me like an invisible pillar rising through the centre of the museum. Needless to say, I took many photos of this and that, flashless photography (for personal use) being allowed. Just look at this little collection of lovelies - three needlework 'favours' or love tokens from the 1600s, each just few inches tall - - and a sweet gold wirework frog purse from the same era, used for carrying herbs or perfumed sachets. I wonder if I could reconstruct a similar design? But with all this visual wealth around me, I had to narrow my choice of subject down if I were not to become overwhelmed. So I naturally picked animals. Like this adorable little hare tureen, which could sit in one's hand. And this exquisite porcelain cat, which I think is some kind of pill box - - scaring the nearby tapestry parrot. I found myself more drawn to the Oriental galleries, perhaps because my own style is similarly curvaceous. A wonderful piece of Satsuma ware, a mouse sitting on a turnip. Size is roughly that of large cooking apple. Ivory monkey with dragonfly, just a few inches long. The tiny dragonfly is about the size of my little fingernail. I fell in love with this deceptively simple hare-shaped lacquered incense box the last time we were here. It measures about two and a half inches across and to me is absolute design perfection. I think if I could have just one thing from the thousands of things in the Ashmolean, it would be this. As with the landscape notes I made last weekend, the object of my sketching was not to produce a page of pretties nor even to make notes for future work. Neither was the challenge to exactly copy the object itself. What I wanted to do was explore the design style of each piece and the way each individual artist had interpreted and tweaked the animal form, especially if it was also a functional item. Trying to get inside their creative minds as I worked; and at the end of the exercise, the final scribbles were really just a crude record. The real result was what had been imprinted in my visual memory and loosening up my hand skills. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
