This listing includes 3 worksheet pages with 36 different boxes total. This listing also includes a colored example page for reference. All pages are contained within a single PDF file and you can print what you would like. Each worksheet includes 12 boxes that have "starter" lines. Students are instructed to create an image or design from these starter lines...the more creative the better! This listing is for Pack 2 of the Imagination Workouts. To see the Imagination Workout Pack 1, go to this link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Imagination-Workout-Creativity-Test-Drawing-Sub-Art-Lesson-Plan-Doodle-Worksheet-1249337 This is an excellent sub art lesson plan! The drawing keeps students busy while also using their creativity. This would also be a great lesson for the first day of class to keep kids motivated and excited to be in art class. Directions: 1. Introduce students to the concept of an imagination workout. You could even do an example on the board or have students practice on the first one together. 2. Next, instruct students to think outside the box. They can draw animals, shapes, buildings, cars, symbols, etc. 3. Students can also color in their drawings and doodles. 4. Give students five minutes to walk around the class to look at other student work. The kids get a huge kick out of seeing what other kids came up with...some are VERY creative! Other lessons: *Have students choose one doodle to recreate on a larger scale *Have students try to create a story/comic out of three different doodles of their choice *Have students pass their paper around from student to student until all 12 boxes are filled up (like the game Telephone)

I'm so excited about these preschool journals. They are a 'new to us' project for this year. I love how they are coming along. We picked up composition journals over the summer for each friend. Here's what we have so far. Self portrait: (This bottom friend must be a germ or bacteria cell) I love love love their little preschool drawings. We will redo this one at the end of the year. I know that the parents will treasure this collection of little projects. Here's favorite color: So far, we have something for each letter. I think I can keep going with this. Aa is for apples on the Aa. It's little inked finger prints on the letters and then we drew on a few stems and leaves to make them look like apples. For the letter Bb, we had two choices. First, they could turn a B into a bee. Or, they could stamp bees on a Bb. I only have one bee stamp, so I wanted another Bb option. Just about everybody wanted the stamp option though. Here's C week. Coin rubbings on the letter Cc. Also, if the kids do a little drawing or something and give it to us, we're sticking some of them in the journals. This little friend was drawing me a lot the first few weeks of school. She would draw rows and rows of me. This one she said was 'two Ms. Beth." We used tracing your hand as sign in one day. Usually, for the first part of the year anyway, this is our sign in, tracing their name or writing their name. I think we'll include this once every few months anyway. Here's how we're fitting this into our day. We either have it as the sign in for the day or it's at a table. The kids do something quickly at the sign in table as soon as they enter (name, tracing hand, etc). Usually, I have one table set up each morning for journals. We have other tables with other table toys or themed activities. I try to make sure each friend stops there once a week to complete the project. Some really like it and can't wait to do it on Monday and want to do it each morning. Others, need called over on Friday and promised it will be quick, but that's just a few. It hasn't been time consuming or a burden to plan yet. The parents that have been in for leader day so far are loving it and can't wait to see what's been added. Here are other posts with our journal ideas: journals again June 8, 2013 journals Jan 19, 2013

Hey doodz, remember last year when we got our new fence installed? (Part 1, Part 2) Well today I wanted to share with you how it be lookin’ one year later. I’ve stained it since the last time we talked about it. I decided to go for a dark brown stain (semi-transparent chocolate by behr), and I really like it although staining was a total bear of a job. It took me 5 gallons of stain, many, many, M A N Y hours, and tons of slivers. It was worth it, although if I ever had to do it again I would seriously consider hiring it out. What can I tell you about staining; it’s a pain, it’s hard, and slats are dumb. I used a brush because I wanted the color to look variegated and dimensional, so some of the slats had 3 heavy coats of stain and others had 2 lighter coats – it all took a lot of time and effort but I’m really happy with how it all turned out. Just to give you some idea, I began this staining project last fall and finished it at the end of April. It was a big project and took an enormous amount of time – I better like it. To refresh your memory, we previously had a dated chain link fence with green plastic slats – not a pretty backdrop for the garden vibes we were going after. Last spring we had installed a horizontal cedar slatted fence. We had added a 4′ fence on one side of our yard, and a 6′ privacy fence on the other (can you tell which neighbor I don’t like?). We added gates to both sides of the house, and a big gate in the back opening up to a concrete slab on the side of our garage. Now that the fence is installed and stained we seriously love everything about the fence! I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Bros, I’m not gonna tip-toe around it, this is a sponsored post, and I’m proudly endorsing Fencein Deck, the company who built our fence. If you’re in the twin cities area and are looking to have a fence built, (custom or otherwise) please consider giving Dave a call (651-246-3176) or shoot him an e-mail, he is a good dude who has built a solid business (Fencein Deck) for himself here in […]

We are about to start our Fiction unit in 3rd grade where I teach. I always find that kids love fiction much more than non-fiction--probably because it is more imaginative. Fiction is fun to teach as well! There are so many wonderful books to use with fiction units! Here are a few we use to introduce (or reintroduce) the students to fiction! We use many more books, of course, but these are some of my favorites! They are full of wonderful characters, great changes with the characters and other amazing uses of the fiction story elements. We always start with an anchor chart--explaining what a Fiction book is! Here is an example: Fiction books have many different parts (elements)--Here is an anchor chart that I found on pinterest, it shows the basic story elements! We have our students create one of these to glue in their reading spiral notebook! I also love this page for the kids to put in their notebook! It is an easy way to remember that the elements are all part of the big "fiction" picture. Here is a link to it! After we do the initial teach of fiction and the different elements, we have students practice all year through responses and graphic organizers. The more they are familiar with the different story elements, the more comfortable they are answering questions about them. Here are a few of the graphic organizers and links to print them--some are younger level (for differentiation) and some are on grade level. Story Map-1st Grade Response I haven't made this yet--but I love it! Story Map--Any Grade! (Take out Theme for lower grades!) I have used this graphic organizer for enrichment activity before--the kids really enjoy it! Or they can use a friend instead of themselves. (Nice words only though!) :) Another great enrichment (or even whole group if you have them time) activity is to create a foldable with the different fiction elements. We are going to do this at the end of our unit--so I don't have any pictures yet...but I know the kids will love it! We will use this tool to assess the student's learning of fiction elements. The students will create the foldable--label it with the different parts, then fill in the parts from a book we have already read in class. Learning made fun! Yay! :) Here is one last resource that I hope you will enjoy! Our principal is huge into technology--which is great! He is in the process of trying to get an ipad in every classroom. The process is slow because they are expensive--but I believe there are at about 20 or so on the campus now, not too shabby! I do not have a school one, because I have a personal one (no need to have two.) But, this is a free educational ipad app called Toontasic! It has a lot of different features, but one thing you can do is create your own story map--and create your own characters, problems, and solutions for the characters. This is new for me...but looks like FUN for the kids! I am going to try it out next week with my kids! As you have noticed--character is a huge part of fiction so we actually teach those two concepts in the same week! We try to tie it all in together. There are a TON of resources out there...too many to list. I hope this helps you in your classroom though! I always believe that the more resources you have...the less likely the kids will get bored. :) Have a great weekend!
