On one hand, we want to help our students feel heard and validated so they know we are a safe person for them to talk to. On the other hand, we certainly don't want to feed into the tattle machine. It’s a new year and we look forward to share new easy craft with you! You can do exactly as we do or be inspired to make your own designs. Today we make easy and sweet necklaces using wooden beads and acrylic paint. You need wooden beads in two different sizes, acrylic paint, brushes and ribbon or string to thread the beads on. We also used a black permanent marker to paint the eyes with and a colorful bead with a small hole. 1. We have painted the beads in two different ways. On the first we placed hole of the beads horizontally. That way the doll can get neat little pigtails on either side of the head. On the other one the holes is placed vertically and the doll gets a knot at the top of the head. We use barbecue sticks to thread the beads on when we paint. Hair, eyes and cheeks painted with acrylic paint and/or waterproof pens. Print round and even cheeks using the flat side of a barbecue stick. 2. Note: I am hoping to put a PDF document together with all of our bird art camp projects in one place for anyone interested (though I'm not sure when I'll get it all done). With this in mind, I am not going to go into quite as many how-to details on these projects. But, the projects are fairly self-explanatory. :-) The final project in my bird camp series: paper bird cages. I came across this project on this blog. The project I was using for our inspiration while cute, just didn't have the bling and sparkle that I know my girls would love. So we dressed it up a bit more by using fun sparkly scrapbook papers and a bling tack to hold it together at the top. We also used paper that was two sided so that the inside of the cage would be fun as well. I thought it would be fun to add in actual feathers so the birds would have a more three-dimensional quality to them. The supplies you'll need are above. After the cages were built, they started on their birds: I used some flower wire I had to hang the birds from the center tack of the cage: And we aren't always serious when we're creating! Students needing to use the bathroom is always such a problem and I have struggled with this every year. I am trying something new this year after coming across various ideas on Pinterest. I have made a Bathroom Pass Record Sheet for the students to keep in their Math Folder. They will be given 5 opportunities each quarter to use the restroom during class. My expectations and procedures are clearly given on My Bathroom Pass Record Sheet. Even though this is a Bathroom Pass Record Sheet, you will see that I included a spot for them to record their destination. This was done intentionally. I teach middle school. I want the students to write that they are going to the bathroom so therefore they should not be going anywhere else. :o) You will also notice that I am including Bonus Points for students who never leave to use the restroom. They will be able to use these Bonus Points on assessments and homework. :o) I am including files for you to download and use. Feel free to modify to fit your needs.
