this post contains affiliate links Hello! So Friday has rolled around again and it's time for some Etsy Finds, this week with a hearty twist seeing Valentines Day is coming up fast. I don't think it is such a big deal here in Australia, but I know it is quite a big day in other parts of the world, there is certainly lots of cute things heart related on Etsy at the moment! :) So here we go........ 1. I am loving these chunky crochet hearts from ATERGcrochet, this is an instant pattern download, so plenty of time to hook a few up before the 14th! --------------------------------------------------- 2. Aren't these needle felted hearts lovely, from Fairyfolk, I think they look very cute in a posy like this! :) ----------------------------------------------------------- 3. Damsontreepottery make these super cute heart hairpins, simple and lovely! ------------------------------------------------------ 4.I love the cards from emilymcdowelldraws, this one is very applicable to my man and I ! :) -------------------------------------------------- 5. AndreSueKnits creates gorgeous handpainted yarns, (I am loving the plethora of indie yarn dyers out there, the colours they create are just so interesting!) I am really wanting to catch the sock knitting bug and I think some gorgeous yarn like this one called 'Heartthrob' could be just the thing to get me having a go! So many beautiful yarns in this shop! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So that's it for today, I hope you have a great weekend, it looks like a warm one is coming up for us, which will be nice as Summer has been a bit of a non event until now. I am having a Tapestry Crochet workshop tomorrow too, still a bit scary running these things, but I'm getting more comfortable each time I do one. I think it really pays to get out of you comfort zone every now and again, this is something I never thought I'd have the confidence to do, but here I am! I am still a pretty crap public speaker, but crochet is more of a doing thing than a talking thing anyway! :) Talk soon! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hello! It's been a while since I've blown the cobwebs off my poor neglected blog, but I didn't realise it has been quite so long since the last post!! Where has that time gone! I am going to try (again) to get back in the habit of blogging, it is such a nice way to record what I've been making and other stuff. So in that spirit, here's some little houses I have been having fun making recently. They are quite small, so will make good brooches or woolly pins for project bags, or very cute hanging decorations for the Christmas tree. The lovely knitting pattern is by Julia Marsh at Hand Knitted Things , she has other cute house patterns too! I made a couple of mods to the pattern to get the size I wanted, and I think it has worked well! I used 2 strands of different 4plys to give a marled effect and get to the 8ply for the pattern, the yarns are mostly Jamieson Shetland wool. I love the rustic nature of this wool, and there are heaps of colours to play with, so it's ticking all the boxes for this project! These are destined for my Yarn Advent Boxes that I'm sending out in November, I've promised to include a few cute little extras and this is the first one I've made, they are kind of a surprise, but I doubt many people will read this far! They have all their tails stuffed inside making them a little bit puffy. :) So much fun playing with colour combos, and I really enjoyed embroidering the doors and windows! I have plenty of other things I need to share on here, so lets hope I get the blogging habit back and it becomes a regular part of my life again! Have a lovely day everyone, thanks for reading, it's been great to get posting again!

Hello there! Happy New Year crafty peeps! :) I hope you have all had a great end of 2016, I seem to have fallen off the blogging wagon over the last few months, but you know what they say, new year,

Last week... 1. ...I was hooking up washers for the market. I love choosing the colour combos for these, there are so many nice possibilities. 2. ...the rosellas found the apple trees. They are really beautiful birds, but they will probably strip all the fruit from the trees well before they are ready for us to eat. 3. ... this gaudy, gorgeous dahlia flowered! Yay! 4 +5 ... I had a stall at the twilight market at Emu Plains, it was packed with people and I really enjoyed meeting some peeps who knew of this blog!! 6. ... hooked up a colour swatch for a customer. 7 ... I started a new 'wheels within wheels' blanket, this time in blues and greens, I think it will look good. :) 8. ...the apricots started to ripen! yay! I love a tree ripened apricot, so much better than anything you can buy from the shops. My parents tree is laden this year, so much so that branches are breaking under all the weight! I am thinking a couple of batches of jam and a big pot of stewed apricots are going to be made soon! ----------------------------------------- That's a few bits of my last week, I had an unintentional bloggy break as well, I just couldn't find time to sit at the computer or take many photos. I have a heap of emails to respond to and they didn't get touched either. Sorry for being a bad communicator! I am hoping to get back into a rhythm soon and find the blogging routine again. Do you find your blogging mojo ebbs and flows? What did you get up to last week? Got any big plans for this one? xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hello there! I hope you all had great weekends, it was pretty quiet around here, we had no real plans this weekend so it was nice just to mooch around and enjoy the winter sunshine. Being home meant that I finished off my second skinny stripe blanket! Yay! So of course I had to take some pictures of it all completed. You probably are sick of seeing this blanket, but just in case you are not, here is a few photos of it is all its cool colour glory! I have decided to call this one Seaside Skinny Stripe, because it has a bit of a beachy feel to it I think. I chose grey for the edge, and did my fallback picot edge treatment, I still really like this simple edging! I guess it is cot sized or a reasonable knee rug, here it is all laid out on a single bed. I like this side with the crisp lines of colour all standing out clearly from each other..... ....and here it is added to the growing pile of blankets in my stash of finished things. I think I'll call the colourful one the Jellybean Skinny Stripe, it's a nice playful name. So here is some info about this new blanket: Size 89cm x77cm, 8ply (DK) pure wool, 3.5mm hook. Wool colours used: ( approximately 1-2 50g balls of each colour) Loyal DK mid blue electric blue aqua midgreen spearmint duck egg blue Heirloom Colorworks 8ply teal green lime grey cream Heirloom Babywool 8ply pale mint pale blue light aqua Merino Magic 8ply celery Plus I used 2 balls of extra grey for the edge, you could use what ever colour you liked though. I have a few scraps left of various blues and greens and added one or two rows of these too until they ran out. The pattern was random in that there is no colour repeat, although I did try and balance the colour stripes as I went. Just rows of sc (dc) in different colours, that's about it! I stock these wools in my shop over here if you would like to make one for yourself! Have you got much on this week? I am going on a quick road trip to Sydney to pick up something very exciting! Well, I think it is anyway, I can't wait to show you what I have acquired, something I have been wanting to learn for a long time. I think I have steep learning curve ahead of me. I'm doing that on Wednesday and will be back Friday, so will show you all then! Eek! Ok so that's about all for today, talk soon!

1 + 2. Th Emu Plains Market on Saturday. It was a great way to spend the afternoon and evening, a big crowd and fabulous stall holders, my sister the florist, made some little jar posies for my stall this time and they really added some lovely colour. Lovely to meet a few readers of this little blog too! :) 3. It's been pretty hot here recently, so I like to give my chooks a little treat to cool them down. They adore cold watermelon from the fridge, their heads were in a pecking frenzy! 4. Close up of one of the jar posies my sister made, I got to keep this one! :) 5. Great thing about Summer - cherry season! So delicious and shiny. :) 6 + 7. Some of my recent crochet makes, I haven't been showing much crochet over here because I seem to always be making the same things and I don't want to bore you silly! lol. I promise to make something different soon! :) 8. A bit of colourful yarny love to put a smile on your face, so cheery and bright, this Nikkim Cotton is so lovely! 9. Earlier today, bushfire in our town, this is looking over our back fence. A lot of huge smoke clouds that would billow up very dark and dirty, then billow up very white and fluffy, it was weird and scary. A bit too close to home for my liking. One house was burnt down, but it could have been a lot worse, we have fabulous CFA and fire brigades around here, and the community really pulls together and looks out for each other. Makes me proud of our little town! Heres hoping there are no more fire dramas for Crib Point this Summer. Fingers crossed. How has your week been? xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
This pattern is made using 5 doublepoint needles and with any doubleknit wool, although I have suggested the wool I used, which gave the brick work a lovely texture. The house is robust enough to use as a toy, or keep as a beautiful ornament. The pattern details how to knit a one, two or three storey house, with or without dormer window. It also shows you how to make a small bird for the roof. The main walls of the house are knitted in the round, and this means there is only a little sewing up at the gable ends of the roof. The details on the house are embroidered on after the house has been stuffed. The pattern contains a diagram to help you with the sizing and position of the doors and windows. If you want add extra details to personalize your house you can see more photos on my blog ginxcraft, and there are photo tutorials here to help you with the embroidery stitches you will need to make animals, trees etc.

It is actually a blog hop, but I am not sure how to get the code onto my blog (still a novice obviously), so I am just linking to it. See you soon!

Hello! I have something lovely to share with you all today, something I have been anticipating with delight ever since I first heard about this fabulous project. I'm sure you all know the amazing crochet whizz Kate Bruning from the blog Greedy for Colour, her wonderful crochet creations have been putting a smile on my face for ages. I always love to see what Kate is working on, it is sure to be something original, whimsical and inspiring. Well, Kate has just released her latest book "Let's Go Camping" full of truly fabulous patterns for mini world adventures. The publishers sent me a copy to look at and share with you, and I have to say it is my favourite crochet book already! There are patterns for mini teepees, ice cream trucks, lake houses, boats, long boats, mountains, trees, and of course Kate's famous retro caravan complete with all the gorgeous accessories that you would imagine would go with each set. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many cute things to make in this book , that I really don't know where I will start! I'm thinking I will make a lake mat and slowly fill it with little boats and flowery islands surrounded by a lush forest of trees and a camping ground around the edge with a caravan and colourful teepees. And that's just for starters! :) The styling and photographs and are truly beautiful and showcase the magic and detail of the worlds Kate has created. ............the lake house set, so cute!...... .......love the mini bunting and stripy teepee! ..... ......This river scene is just so darn cute!! And the roof comes off and there is a little bed and furniture inside, so clever! I love all the little elements that Kate has included in each different set, so detailed! Aren't the hydrangea pots fabulous! I am definitely making some of these, I think they would look gorgeous hanging from my Christmas tree too! I feel so glad that Kate has made this book and written all these wonderful patterns down in one place, her imagination is so fertile and I just love the scenes she creates. I can't recommend this book highly enough, it is completely inspiring and appeals to me on so many levels, it is playful, whimsical, original, colourful and super cute! Thank you so much for all your amazing hard work Kate, it has truly paid off with this adorable collection! So, after all that gushing, I am happy to say I am having a giveaway! One lucky person can win this copy of Kate's book all for themselves! Yay! Just leave a comment on this post and I will pick a winner next Tuesday. :) (It is so lovely that I am going to stock it in my shop, so I will be sure to grab a copy for my own library!) You can read more about the making of this book on Kate's blog here. :) Do you like making cute crochet things too? Do you make them for children of for yourself like me? :) Ok that's all for tonight, I think I'm going to dream of magical little lake houses with islands of flowers and crocheted mountains and wooly Playmobil friends :) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Over the weekend I found a bit of time for some creative crochet, just something for fun, working with colour and pattern, it felt really good. I was trying to come up with a bit of a harlequin pattern that didn't involve sewing pieces together, I couldn't find a pattern online, so had a bit of a play myself. Often I just think about these type of things, and never get around to trying out ideas, but this time I got out the hook and wool and a pencil and paper and had a go. I know it's not all that original and I'm sure it has been done heaps of times, but it is satisfying working out a solution to a problem on your own, even if you get the same answer as everyone else! I am making a few little colour swatches of some new yarn in my shop (more on that another day) there are lovely vivid colours and I want to try out some different combos, I think this harlequin pattern is a nice way to play with colour. I an really enjoying seeing how each colour looks as part of this pattern, I think a full blown harlequin blanket might be somewhere in my crafty future! If only there were a few more hours in the day...... What did you get up to on the weekend, anything fun? Crafty? Do you like harlequin patterns too? xxxxxxx

Hello! Thought I'd show you my little softie doll that I crocheted for the Softies For Mirabel appeal. (I am really getting stuck into finishing things at the moment!) She's all dressed up ready for a new home! And this is the thing I was working on last post, the partay dress! I am very happy with how this turned out, it was the most fun part to make too. I made the dress and the doll up as I went, and I think it looks ok. ..........bit of a freaky, starey face, she looks a bit ditzy I think, my embroidery skills could use some improvement. .......just hanging around..... ........and with the other toys in the 'hood, just chillin' out.... Hope someone out there will love her. I have a weekend of gardening and housework ahead of me so it was nice to get a finished project out of the way. What have you got planned for the weekend? Talk soon!

Hello. So, back to a bit of crafty news after all the New Year festivities are over, I have been busy with the crochet hook recently, I love how through the holiday period I can craft at leisure, and during the day! I am still a bit in love with the harlequin pattern, and am making a blanket using the tapestry crochet technique. Pretty much the same as my washcloths but made in 8ply wool and a fair bit bigger! I am using hdcs instead of sc to give a more diamond shape. This is hooking up nice and quickly so I hope to have it finished soon. Lots of colour here, nice and bright and cheery...... I am liking the bit of orange, I was going for a bit of a carnival look and I think it helps. ....It will probably end up roughly cot sized once I add a border ...... .....I dragged out the other diamond blanket I have on the go, quite a different process and far more time consuming, but I like the patchworky effect of sewing all the diamonds together......then again, I like the flatness of the tapestry technique too. Must try and get this one finished too....... I should have some time over the weekend to do some more on these, so hopefully something finished to show you all soon! Have you been doing any holiday hooky?
hello! I thought I would show you my new softie - granny porky, my version of a piggy! ......I used slightly more muted colours than usual, but I am happy with this paler pink piggy, the snout is maybe a bit chunky, but anyhoo, I am pretty happy with her...... .....she is very squishy and cuddly, Max tested her out for me! ------------------------------------ I decided to give my blog a bit of a renovation, you know, a change is as good as a holiday and all that....... Have a great day!
This is the second part of my tutorial to make my granny square softie kitty Cat. We have made the front and back body pieces in part 1, now is the relatively simple bit of making the arms, legs and face and putting it all together. Face : 3.00mm hook, 8ply wool. Make 2 round circles for eyes. Ch 3, join with sl/st to create ring. Rd 1 : ch2, 10 hdc into ring, join with sl/st to 2nd ch, bind off. (11 st) Rd 2 :Join new colour, ch2, 1 hdc into same st, then 2 hdcs in each st, join with sl/st to 2nd ch. bind off. (22 st) Rd 3 : Join new colour, ch 2,* 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, * repeat around circle, join with sl/st to 2nd ch . Bind off. Make 2 and these are the eyes. To make a nose , do the same thing in one colour only and using 1 ch beginnings and scs around circle. It makes a smaller circle. Pin the eyes and nose in place on front piece, and sew on. I use blanket stitch for the eyes, and just a straight stitch for the nose, but you can do what ever you like. I chain stitch some whiskers and a mouth, and voila! a face is done! Legs : Make 2 . Ch 4, join with sl/st to form ring. Rd 1 :ch1, 9sc into ring, join with sl/st to 1ch. Rd 2 :ch1, 1sc in same place, then 2 sc in each st, join with sl/st to ch1. Rd 3 :ch1, *2sc in next st, then 1sc in next st* continue in this pattern around, join with sl/st to ch1. Rd 4 :ch1, 1scin each st around, join with sl/st to 1ch. Continue for 6 more rounds, then change colour. Continue till leg is desired length. bind off. Arms : Make 2. Arms are made the same as legs, just starting with 8sc into the ring instead of 9sc, and made a bit shorter. When you have your arms and legs done, and the face sewn on, it is time to sew it all together. Pin the front and back piece together, right sides facing. Try and match up the stitches down the sides, as this gives a neater finish. Stitch around the cat, leaving an opening for stuffing at the bottom. Turn right side out, stuff and sew up opening. Stuff each arm and leg, pin in position and sew into place. (Sorry, I forgot to take pictures of this bit!) And that, my friends, is how I made my granny square kitty cat!! There is plenty of room for improvisation in this pattern, so have fun!
Hello, I haven't been on the computer much this week, the boys are home and they kind of dominate, and by the time I get a chance I can't be bothered thinking of something to post! So slack of me. But anyway, I thought I'd show you how the 'wheels within wheels' blanket is progressing, I have made quite a few 'wheels' now, and I am loving seeing how colourful they are looking all together. I think this will turn out to be my most grown up blanket once all these colours are set into their grey squares, I think it will a lot more subtle than it's looking now! It does give me a happy feeling looking at these rounds, the pattern does 4 rounds of colours, but I decided to add another one to make them a bit bigger, I'm loving the 5 round look. So anyway, I have gone a bit overboard with the colourful photos here but I think I needed a bit of cheering up, and this hits the spot today! .......The other day I picked up a new order of wool for my shop, lots of lovely colour and some new things too, now I have to just get around to updating and adding the new yarns to the shop, today's job! ....And I just had to show you my lucky oppy score, a friend of mine mentioned that she thought I'd like the canisters she'd seen in the oppy window the other day, so I checked it out, and yes please! Very cute 60s/70s willow tins, they just need a bit of a clean up and I'll be able to fill them with all sorts of crap treasures! So that's a little catch up around here, I'will try and post more often, but sometimes life seems a bit mundane with nothing interesting happening to chat about, but we'll see I guess. Have a lovely day! xxxxxx
Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend! I had a market stall at Emu Plains again, which was lovely, and then we spent a fair amount of time at the beach as the temperatures have skyrocketed in the last few days and the water was divine! My older 2 boys sweltered it out at Soundwave Music festival in Melbourne and had a ball. It was a huge weekend in Melbourne with the White Night Festival and World Cup cricket also on, the boys said the crowds were massive! Today I am trying to catch up on my huge washing pile and get things in and out before a big summer storm hits later on. I really lead such an exciting life!!! ;) At the risk of boring you all stupid with more photos of this blanket, I thought I would show you how my blues and greens Wheels within Wheels blanket finished up. I was really happy with this make, I haven't made a blanket with so much off white before, but I love how the circles really pop in the light background. So a few facts about this blanket : Pattern : Wheels within Wheels by Frankie Brown Yarn: The circles were made from small amounts of Colorworks and Loyal DK in a variety of greens and blues. The background was Baby Merino 8ply by Heirloom in cream. Cot size, 42 squares. So now I am working on something new, I started this new make before the wheels blanket, but now I can really get stuck into it! I will show you some progress later on I think, I'm really liking how it is coming up! Have a great day! Talk soon! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hello, how are you going today? I am having a good day, nothing special, just food shopping and general housey things, but I like days like this. Firstly, I'd like to thank you for the lovely comments on my last post and your ideas for reinvigorating bloggy energy. I think I will just continue to blog when I can and not worry too much if it's not everyday, I think I am too casual for anything like a formal schedule, so this blog is just going to go with the flow, the same approach I take to most aspects of my life. Thank you all for your continued interest in Little Woollie, I have a few new ideas to try out over the next few months so I'll see how that goes. :) Well, suddenly Christmas doesn't seem that far away, (eek, nearly November!) and once again I am finding myself tossing up how much of a handmade Christmas I'll be able to achieve. I'd love to make some of the gifts for my family this year, I don't think I'll worry to much about all the boys I have to buy for, they are not really into handmade stuff, but I could do some baking for them, they do love a homemade bikkie or 2. I am thinking that cute crochet washers and a nice piece of soap would be a nice little gift for my friends, I like making the washers so they should be fun to make. I am doing a couple of markets between now and Christmas, so I am also trying to make some things that would be good presents for people to buy, maybe for teachers or other people we get little gifts for at this time of year. So I have been making these little milk jar covers in multicoloured stripes, I think they look so cute in a group! These jars make good small vases and you could pick a posy of flowers and give a cute jar of flowers to your favourite teacher, or you could stick a nice candle in one for a candleholder, or you could fill it with some bright coloured fine liners for a cute pen holder.......or you could fill a shadow box with different patterned one for a very cute wall display! These small milk bottles can be picked up cheaply from 2 dollar shops, or you could keep your eyes open for interesting shaped bottle and recycle bottles that are finished in the kitchen, I think a little collection of different shaped and sized bottles with there cute colourful cover would be a lovely present! Cute and thrifty, gotta love that! .....I just had to pick a few ranunculus from the garden and colour match them to their vase.... .....and a couple more gratuitous flower shots, just because I can't get enough of their gorgeous colours......... So, are you making any presents this year? I am going to make a few decorations too. Have you been following the Handmade Christmas posts over at One Crafty Mumma? Mel is one organised girl! She has lots of ideas and links for handmade things this year, I am getting on board a little late, but there is still lots of time to get making! During the week I will have a look around the internet and see what Christmas decorations I can find and share with you all next week. Have you got any handmade ideas for Christmas this year, any secret crafty plans? Have a great day!
1. Luscious new yarn for the shop, more on this tomorrow, I'm so excited! 2. The cockatoos have arrived for their annual feast of sunflowers. Sigh. I was going to try and dry the heads for seed for my chooks. Forgot how destructive the cockies can be. 3. I've moved my little desk to a sunny corner to help me get serious about my work. It might work. 4. I visited the Community garden last week for the first time in a while, this was my share of things to bring home. I really must try and get down there once a week. 5. I hope everyone had a nice loved up Valentine's Day. I have been working on a little heart project in the spirit of all things lovey. How's your week been? Joining in with the others at The Beetle Shack for the weekly dose of stills.

Hello. I have been busy today updating my yarn shop with this gorgeous stuff. I received my shipment of Debbie Bliss's Baby Cashmerino yesterday, and I have to say I am really happy with it. You know how you can see things online and then they are disappointing in real life? Well, this is happily not the case with this yarn! I am sure lots of you have used this before, but it is not easy to come by where I live so this is my first encounter with Cashmerino, and it is very soft and tactile! So now my shop has 19 colours available in Baby Cashmerino, and I am wondering which colour to try out first! I am hoping to add to the colour range as my budget allows and would love to stock the Aran weight Cashmerino too, and some Madeline Tosh, sigh, so many yarns to choose from, I am getting a bit ahead of myself! ......there are bright shades..... .....and because I like to play around with colour I couldn't help myself putting together a couple of little schemes, I love these muted washed out colours, very vintage feeling don't you think..... ....and these 4 look good together too, red and blue a classic combo really..... ......and then I thought these chalky colours all looked beautiful together too..... .......very hard to stop once you start! I am thinking a little stripy scarf in these 4 shades would be very acceptable for this winter.....maybe with a bit of this mint added in! Anyway, if you would like to have a little drool for yourself, they are all now available over here! I have popped a couple of colour collections up too just for fun! Have you used this yarn before? Did you like it too? What's on your hook/needles at the moment?
Hello! How is your day going? I'm having a good one, I've had a crochet lesson with a lovely girl and am getting ready for another one this evening, I really love all this crafty work! So anyway, I have finally got my studio/shop nearly organised so it's time for the virtual tour and grand tadah!! I cannot tell you how excited and happy I am to have this space completed, my friend Ed, the carpenter did a great job and I am so loving spending time in here!! (Apologises for the huge amount photos, but I just couldn't choose which ones to leave out!) It is nice and colourful and I think it shows of the beautiful yarns well, I so love having all the wool out of their plastic bags, the colours really shine now! So now I'll let you have a bit of a wander through my new space, enjoy! Now local yarnies can pop in and choose their wool in the flesh, I can run classes and workshops, and I have a good place to run the online side from too! Very happy here!! Of course all the yarns can be found here at Little Woollie Makes Yarn Store online, although my new stock of Cascade 220 Superwash hasn't been added just yet. I hope you are having a happy, colourful day like me! :) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
