(a ilustração é do cordel de J.Borges - "A Vida no Sertão" - Bezerros - PE) Ontem, dia 27-01-11, dentro da programação do Festival de Teatro de Maringá, fui assistir a peça Andarilhos de Cordel. Por sinal, gosto muito do gênero que é a cara do Nordeste Brasileiro. Uma peça bem descontraida, com muito humor que até algumas crianças presentes "racharam o bico". Bom público no Teatro Barracão. O destaque ficou por conta de uma fala do personagem, talvez num "caquinho" fora do texto. Tem que ir na Feira comprar cordel que é cultura E não ir na Feira para comer pastel que é gordura. A peça foi boa e já valeu pelo trocadilho que veio a calhar com nossa Maringá onde a barraca do Pastel da Feira é algo à parte. Fica como um formigueiro no doce. Apinhado. Fui no Teatro Oficina da UEM hoje, dia 28-01-11 e perdi a viagem, pois a peça era O Mercador de Veneza e os ingressos já estavam esgotados. Ao menos me informaram lá que essa peça vai ficar aqui na nossa cidade até o final de fevereiro, não free como hoje, mas haverá outras ocasiões para curtir a peça baseada na obra de William Shakspeare. (espero não ter errado o nome do monstro sagrado).

Well, here’s something you don’t see every day in real life: Witches with animal heads flying on broomsticks. Fuck. Why did all the good stuff happen before iPhones were around to capture it….? Or, is it just strange, nay fantastically unbelievable, that witches with animal heads ever flew around on broomsticks? Now, once upon a time, long, long ago in a land not so very far from here, people actually did believe in witches and warlocks and wizards and animal hybrids flying with broomsticks through the devil-dark night. It was a form of mental aberration that infected the whole of Europe between the 15th and 17th centuries. This dreadful fear of witches began with a couple of Dominican monks, Heinrich Kramer and Jacob Sprenger, who together wrote a barmy treatise on witchcraft called Malleus Maleficarum (Hammer of Witches) in 1486. This book reinvented witchcraft and the devil as something more than just “delusions,” as had once been believed, into something solid, active, real, and very, very dangerous. Unsurprisingly, it was a bestseller for some 200 years. According to the Malleus Maleficarum the world was literally hoaching with witches and the only way to defeat them was by the worst...

Written in (Portuguese) verse, printed in small presses with hand-printed woodcut cover art. Generally 12 pages long, 6 1/2" x 4 1/2" in size.
