The ultimate go to product for masculine cards is the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper. Check it out.
I cased a card from Stampin' Up! using the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper, my card is not an actual match as I changed the decoration. I love the layout of this card and the great use of the patterned paper. This got me thinking about what other cards could be made with this paper pack. This is what I came up with (it took me a week as I used the entire paper pack and made 69 cards). There are 17 designs plus the one that I cased. I only have a small pile of scraps left, which if I really wanted to I could probably make into another card, but I did not have the creativity left to manage it. Card 1 Card 2 Card 3 Card 4 Card 5 Card 6 Card 7 Card 8 This card is similar to an inchie card (the squares are slightly larger than an inch). It is the second last card that I made, using up a lot of the small pieces of patterned paper left that fitted nicely into the smallest Stitched Square Framelit. I had fun decorating each small square. Card 9 Card 10 Card 11 Card 12 Card 13 Card 14 Card 15 Card 16 Card 17 This is the last card I made using up all the small strips and pieces left. I made 4 of these, each one slightly different as they use different scraps of paper. I will be donating these cards to the Ronald McDonald House Charity at our Stampin' Up! Onstage Local Event which is being held on 7April, 2018 (less than 2 weeks away). Don't forget the Sale-A-Bration promotion that ends on the 31 March 2018. Good Morning Everyone, Now I don't know about you, but I always struggle with masculine cards. Next Wednesday is my Father in Law's Birthday so I needed to make a card. I ummed and arrhhed loads - I don't know why but I think it's so much harder to make a card if I can't use a flower!!! Anyway, this is what I came up with, and I was really happy with it. Measurements:- Crumb Cake Cardstock 1pc - 5 7/8" x 8 1/4", scored at 4 1/8" 1pc - 2 1/4" x 4 1/2" Wood Textures Designer Series Paper 1pc - 4" x 2" 1pc - 3 5/8" x 5 1/4" Whisper White Cardstock 2pc - 5 5/8" x 3 7/8" Take the large piece of crumb cake and create your card base. sponge the edges of the whisper white pieces with soft suede ink. Add one to the inside of the card and one to the card front. Layer the large piece of wood textures DSP to the card front as well. To create the banner, bring in your tailored tag punch and the thin pieces of crumb cake and wood textures DSP. Take the thin edge of the DSP and place it into the tailored tag punch. Line the edge up with the point as below. This will create the banner tails. Repeat this for the crumb cake. Layer these two pieces together. Add a small hole to the top using the 1/8" handheld punch. Run some linen thread through the hole and tie in a small knot and trim the tails. Using the tailored tag punch again, cut out one shape in the crumb cake and one in whisper white. Stamp the happy birthday sentiment into the centre of the whisper white piece and then sponge the edges. Cut the crumb cake cut out in half and layer onto the back of the Whisper white. Wrap a few loops of the metallic thread around the back of the sentiment and the adhere to the card front. Some cardmakers find creating cards with a masculine feel a difficult task to accomplish. If that is a problem that you have, there is a product in the new Stampin' Up! catalog that may make make that problem simply fade away. Check out the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack on page 187. With four each of 12 different double-sided designs, you are sure to find one that is exactly right for your masculine-flavored card. In my card below, doesn't my background look exactly like rustic wood paneling? Even though the wood design I selected does have more of a rustic feel, some of the papers have the look of fine woodworking that are simply delectable and beg to be stroked, only to discover that it's not really wood at all -- it's PAPER!. The classic set Lovely As A Tree (page 137) is the perfect complement to the wood panels. Embossing the tree adds to the elegance, but doesn't take away from the masculinity of the card. To further the wood concept of the card, I used the Woodland embossing folder (page 211) for the narrow Soft Suede edges of it. While the die I used to cut the retired sentiment is no longer available, there are many other combinations of die and stamp that would work equally well. If you like the look of this card, I invite you to try your hand at one of your own. Check below for the materials list as well as the tutorial for this particular card. As always, feel free to change up any of the components to make it uniquely your own. But, this is meant to serve as a sample. SUPPLIES: Lovely As A Tree stamp set Retired greeting Soft Suede cardstock Basic Black cardstock Very Vanilla cardstock Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack VersaMark ink Big Shot Stitched Shapes Framelits (page 214) Woodland Embossing Folder Heat Tool Black Embossing Powder Embossing Buddy Black Dots (I used those that I made myself from Enamel Accents) Striped Ribbon (this particular ribbon is 1 1/4" wide) Stampin' Dimensionals DIRECTIONS: Fold a 4 1/4" x 11" piece of Soft Suede cardstock in half, creasing it well with a bone folder. Run a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of Soft Suede cardstock through the Big Shot inside the Woodland Embossing Folder. Wrap a piece of 1 1/4" wide striped ribbon around the side edges of the embossed piece about an inch or so from the bottom, taping the edges on the back. Glue this piece to the card base. Rub a 3" square piece of Very Vanilla cardstock well with the Embossing Buddy. Stamp the tree in VersaMark ink. At the Heat Station, cover the stamped image with black embossing powder, tipping excess powder back into its container. Heat to emboss. Die cut the embossed tree with the 2 1/2" Stitched Shapes (circle) Framelit. Rub a scrap of Soft Suede cardstock well with the Embossing Buddy. Stamp sentiment with VersaMark ink. Repeat the embossing process with black embossing powder. Cut out with the appropriate die. Space evenly onto a 3 1/4" x 4 3/4" piece of black cardstock four 1" x 3" pieces of the woodgrain DSP. Glue the circle flat onto this, while using a few Stampin' Dimensionals to attach the sentiment. Add three black dots to the right below the sentiment. Adhere this piece to a 3 3/4" x 4 3/4" piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. Attach this to the card base with Stampin' Dimensionals at each corner and one in the center. Hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Share with us whether you find creating masculine cards a problem or not. What little tricks can you share that you use to alleviate the problem? Woodgrain Smiles.
After creating the two cards in the previous post using the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper and the Oh So Eclectic Stamp Set and the Eclectic Layers Thinlits, I got to thinking about how else to use the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper. My creative mojo has been on a bit of a hiatus lately so I have given my self a little challenge to see what I can create. I have selected one each of the 12 patterns in the pack, and after making the first set of cards I realised that you can get a lot of cards from the one paper pack as there are 48 sheets in total, 4 each of the 12 designs. This set of cards uses the piece of pattern paper with all the logs on it. I will admit that when I first started using this paper, I thought what am I going to make with this. I got my inspiration of Paula Dobson who is one of the Artisan Design Team. I love the colour combination on Paula's card and this is what I have used on my designs. You can see Paula's card here. Card 1 To make this card you need to the following pieces: Template made from a piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock 8cm x 14.8cm. Cut the bottom corners off, measure 4cm up each side and then cut on the diagonal. You will get a better look if the point of the bottom of the template is not centred, eg offset to oneside. Measurements A4 Thick Very Vanilla cardstock cut in half to create the card base A piece of Very Vanilla cardstock 8cm x 14.8cm (put the template on this piece and draw the diagonal and then cut off the corners) A piece of Basic Black cardstock 8.3cm x 14.8cm (put the template on this piece making sure to line up the template to the bottom edge, draw the diagonal from the them plate and then cut off the corners) A piece of Wood Textures DSP 14.8cm x 7cm Scraps of Very Vanilla and Basic Black cardstock Technique Fold card base. Emboss the Very Vanilla piece with the 'Oh My Stars' Textured Impressions Embossing folder and the Bigshot. Layer this piece on the Basic Black mat. Adhere the Wood Textures DSP to the bottom of the card front and then adhere the embossed Very Vanilla with the Basic Black mat to the top of the card front. Stamp the large leaf from the Colorful Seasons Stamp Set in Crumb Cake on Very Vanilla cardstock and then stamp the large leaf lined image on top of this using Early Espresso. Cut out using the Seasonal Layers Thinlits. Stamp the small leaf from the Colourful Seasons Stamp Set in Crumb Cake on Very Vanilla cardstock and then cut out using the Seasonal Layers Thinlits. Cut out a lined leaf image using Basic Black cardstock and the die from the Seaonal Layers Thinlits. Layer the leaf pieces together and adhere to the card front. Add a Linen Thread bow. Cut the word 'Happy' using the Happy Birthday Thinlits and Basic Black cardstock. Stamp the sentiment 'Birthday' using the Labeler Alphabet stamp set, Basic Black Archival Ink on Very Vanilla cardstock. Adhere these to the card front. For the inside of the card you can stamp and cut out extra leaf images. Card 2 To make this card you need to the following pieces: Measurements A4 Thick Very Vanilla cardstock cut in half lengthwise to create the card base Wood Textures Designer Series Paper 14.8cm x 4.1cm Basic Black cardstock 14.8cm x 1cm Very Vanilla cardstock 14.8cm x 7cm Scraps of Very Vanilla and Basic Black cardstock Technique Fold card base. Emboss the Very Vanilla cardstock piece 14.8cm x 7cm using the 'Oh My Stars' Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and the Bigshot. Adhere the piece of Wood Textures DSP to the card front. Adhere the embossed piece of Very Vanilla cardstock to the strip of Basic Black cardstock and adhere this to the card front. Add some sequins to finish. For the inside of the card you can stamp and cut out extra leaf images. Card 3 To make this card you need to the following pieces: Measurements A4 Thick Very Vanilla cardstock cut in half lengthwise to create the card base Wood Textures Designer Series Paper 10.5cm x 4.1cm Basic Black cardstock 10.5cm x 1cm Very Vanilla cardstock 10.5cm x 11cm Scraps of Very Vanilla and Basic Black cardstock Technique Fold card base. Emboss the Very Vanilla cardstock piece 10.5cm x 11cm using the 'Oh My Stars' Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and the Bigshot. Adhere the piece of Wood Textures DSP to the card front.
