Did you guys see the big 16-wheeler pass you on the road on your way home? Yep... it ran over me today! Lately, I have been a bundle of energy. I've been going non-stop and determined that I will accomplish everything on my to do list. So far, the ambitious, conquer the world attitude has been working for me. It's almost scary how focused I've been. That is, until today. Today, I felt exhausted. I still knocked out a lot, but I am missing my two hour naps. If you've pulled out the world's smallest violin for my whining, I understand. I am deliriously happy, but goodness! It feels like Christmas break was months ago. However, I'm not tired enough to allow my hubby to type my blog. He just offered to type it and proofread it. Um, that would be a negative! Anyway, the last thing on my list today was blogging which means freebies. I have two new pages to share with you. One of them is called Penguin Punctuation and the other one is Polar Bear Number Fun. Here are pictures of the sheets, so if you like them CLICK HERE to grab it. This week is Spring Break for me. I'm sitting at home enjoying this beautiful weather (and so glad winter is o-v-e-r!) and spending time with my kiddos. It's also a bittersweet time for me because really, I know when I return after this week, I only have a few more weeks left. Those few weeks will be greeted with excitement that I will have my summer off here soon but sadness that soon they'll be leaving me. And really, whether I like it or not, I still need to plan for those last few weeks. As I head into area and perimeter for one of the last units of math, I started collecting a ton of fantastic ideas and FREE resources to teach it. Over at my blog you can, not only read up on lots of fantastic ideas but you can also, collect this cute little freebie that I created to go with the collection! This freebie is where students can create their own "Art Area Gallery." Students create pictures and then determine the area of them. You can get this freebie and gather some great ideas and free resources over at my blog with my collection of area and perimeter blog post by some great teachers! Hope to see you soon... and it won't be long before we are enjoying our summer!

This is such a fun lesson for the kids! This lesson is about Dorcas/Tabitha and is for preschool. There was a lady that lived in Joppa and her name was Tabitha. She was also called Dorcas. The Bible says she was full of good works, and she was a very giving person. She was a Christian. Dorcas helped the women that didn’t have husbands. She made coats and clothing for them. But, one day Dorcas became sick and then died. The Christians heard that Peter was in a town close by. They sent two men begging Peter to come quickly. Peter was one of the disciples of Jesus. Peter went to Joppa and the men took him to the upper room where Dorcas was laying. The women stood by Peter, and they were crying because Dorcas had gotten sick and died. The women showed Peter the clothing that Dorcas had made for them. Peter sent everyone out of the room and knelt down and he prayed. Who did Peter pray to? (God) Peter turned to Dorcas and said, "Stand up Tabitha." She opened her eyes and when she saw Peter, Dorcas sat up. Peter held out his hand and helped her up. Peter did a miracle! Peter called to the people that were there and showed them that Dorcas was alive. Everyone was so happy to have Dorcas again! So many people heard about Dorcas being alive and they believed in Jesus! Scripture is Acts 9:36-42. This is a preschool accordion for Dorcas. The download the color and black & white. Directions are included to complete this project. This makes a great discussion starter. Just read/ask the prompt on each shirt. Click here to download. We used this for an introduction to Dorcas. She made clothing for people and we let them design their own shirt. They can color, and/or you can let them add stickers. We had smileys, hearts, stars and button stickers. I couldn't find button stickers anywhere (!), so I found these circle stickers (88 cents) at Wal Mart in the office supplies dept. and made buttons with a Sharpie. Click here to download. For this lesson, you can also take a small stack of clothes and/or bolts of cloth to use as a visual. To teach the students they can do good things for others, I have cards printed for them to design, sign and give to someone. They can make more if there is enough time, or they can take it home to finish. But I stress that they are expected to hand out the cards (or ask their parents to mail it), because it's not just a fun project. I expect them to tell someone they are thinking about them and made this card for them. I printed these on cardstock, and they are blank on the inside for the kids to design. I have stickers for them to add that are appropriate. Of course, these can be used for any lesson or activity that you want to teach thinking, praying and doing for others. Click here to download. Click here to download the lesson. Click here to download the visuals. Miracles in Acts 9 visuals include Aeneas and Dorcas. All visuals are not shown. Click here to download the pictures to color. (These are the same as the visuals but are black & white.) Click here to see more ideas and printables for Dorcas for preschool. Click here to see the lesson & more for Dorcas for early elementary ages.
This resource was made to help build an awareness of being safe in and around the water and sun! This is super important for kids! This sorting page provides a number of scenarios to read and think about before cutting & gluing them. It's sure to produce some good talks about visits to the pool, playing at the beach, boating on the river, or trips to the lake! Students will sort the following into "Safe" or "Not Safe": swim without an adult go in deep water wear sunscreen drink up the water you are swimming in wear goggles do not wear a life jacket on the boat wear a swim float wear sunglasses your mom catches you in the deep end of the pool run around the pool Water safety is an important discussion, this helps makes it meaningful yet simple for Kindergarten and First grade! Be sure students have an opportunity to share their thinking in regards to these situations and why they sorted they way the did. If you need other resources for Kindergarten and First Grade check my store for even more! Thanks for stopping by….

It's Super Organizing Saturday once again! I have come to love these mornings this Spring...not too hot outside, a little chilly....not missing much if I stay inside and organize something! This week...it's my assessment binder for basic concepts. That's right....we're talking about assessments on a weekend. I know, I know, I know....that's a heavy topic for such a fun day of the week. If you agree, you might need a large cup of coffee. I'll wait----you grab yours, and I'll grab mine! Ok, I'm ready! Here we go! When I organize my assessments, I of course do not use manilla folders, hanging file folders, etc. If you've read my posts before, you've probably heard of my File Cabinet Rebellion of 2011, in which I ditched any and all file cabinets or file cabinet "accessories". I loathe file cabinets----and I LOVE binders! So, you see where I'm going with this.....and you can infer that I organize my assessments in a binder! Here is the beloved binder that holds all of my assessments. I was lucky to have my district supply me with everything that I needed. This binder contains: My curriculum/State objectives.... Letter Identification assessments... Letter/sound identification score sheets Beginning sound assessment & score sheets And much more! However, there are always those basic assessments that are not supplied by the district or curriculum - but are so necessary to early childhood. It is usually up to the grade level teachers, or individual teacher to create their own assessment and find a way to record the information every marking period or during progress monitoring. For me, I certainly needed to update my assessments/record keeping. I've taken the time to create these assessments based on my classroom needs---and perhaps they can work for you as well! All you need is a large 3-ring binder, page protectors, and a color printer. If these assessments work for you, feel free go grab them HERE....at no cost to you!
