Well now, this is a neat little Newport campsite. Windmill Campersite is a small and exclusive place on the Isle of Wight, set up for peaceful peeps looking for a quieter spot than the bigger busier island sites, and in historic surrounds five minutes' walk from Carisbrooke Castle (the site gets its name from the old windmill that's thought to have been the main source of water for the castle). Newport is 20 minutes' walk away, and the site is within 20 minutes' drive of each and every beach on the island, but you might want to wander around on site first...The Newport owners have clearly made it a mission to make things a bit different here, such as at the on-site showershack: modern loo and shower facilities with music, hot air heating and supplied by solar-powered electricity and water. (A more standard shower room with hand basins, mirrors and loos is on site too.) There's also Big Bertha, a big barbecue/pizza oven for guests to use, and Spudomatic, the Windmill Campersite jacket potato oven. (Over 25s only for both, please, and use safely and with sense.) And the horse grazing in the historic Windmill field, chickens clucking around, and the small antiques centre to browse for bargains…. Walk through the site along streams to reach the moat of Carisbrooke Castle, as well as the local village with its shops and pubs.
