A few weeks ago I shared with you the delightful willow blocks I was making Using the pattern from 200 Crochet Blocks by Jan Eaton I set about making 49 of these 6 inch squares in beautiful shades of Stylecraft Special DK using a 3.5mm hook I have used Stylecraft Special DK 1 each of claret, copper, spice, gold, mocha, meadow, teal, plum, grape and raspberry with 3 dark brown for joining The pattern was easily memorised and soon I was making without the book! Loving the lace pattern which shows so clearly when the blocks are made in a single colour I decided on a very simple join ... working in dark brown I used dc with wrong sides together as I wanted the join to be minimal allowing the blocks to shine! then for the border I chose something deep and lacey from Crochet Borders by Edie Eckman which you can buy from Amazon I am absolutely delighted with this plain blanket which has been made as a wedding gift. It was lovely to have the opportunity to create something new and different which I know will inspire future orders. I hope you like it too! happy hookin Heather x x x

Hello lovely people, thank you for being so generous with your comments on my last post. I know the Jan Eaton 'Willow' Block is a firm favourite for a lot of the seasoned crocheters amongst you, so it's lovely to hear that my simple adaptation of this pattern into a solid block version has proved popular. I'm sure many of you would find it super easy to interpret what I've done just by looking at the pictures I posted, but for those who've asked I've put together a very basic tutorial. The main body of the pattern can be found on page 106 of the block directory, in the book 200 crochet blocks for blankets, throws and afghans. Jan's pattern has the centre motif openly framed by four rounds of crochet, but I've chosen to encase the centre motif in just 2 rounds, with no visible gaps. You can choose any number of colour combinations, but I've decided to use one colour for the whole centre motif and another for the border. I think it works really well. So here goes; I'm working on a 3.5mm hook with 100% cotton yarn. Once you've followed the first 5 rounds of Jan's pattern from the book you can choose to either fasten off and join a new colour (like I have), or carry on with the same colour to completion. It really is a very simple concept, so I hope you find these instructions easy to follow. As with my Happy Flower Tutorial, I must point out I'm by no means an authority on writing up crochet patterns, so forgive any mistakes you may find, but by all means let me know about them should you spot any. Just click on the pics for a more detailed view UK Terms There you have it, see I told you it was easy!!! Happy Hooking x x x

It's quiet here on the blog again, I want to blog but I can't seem to find any words lately. I'm trying, I don't know what it is that's making it so hard. I am instagramming a lot, so you can always find me sharing stuff there when it gets quiet here. I've got two Willow blankets to share today! I made one for each of my girls. Willow is such a pretty blanket, it's easy to fall in love with. They were both made using Bernat Waverly yarns, the pink is called fresh flower (I love the Waverly names!), it's such a soft pink. As soon as I finished with the pink one, my other daughter wanted one too and she asked for green. Again, I used Bernat Waverly yarns, the green is called celadon and the yellow is butter. When I was making the pink willow, I thought that a band on the blanket might look good so I knew I was going to give it a try on the next one. I'm glad I went for it because I love that yellow band! I'm really happy with these two Willow blankets!

Another trip up North and another blanket, I got the evil eye from Hubby when I mentioned I needed more wool for another blanket so I had to make do with all the pastel colours I had left from various projects but I did order some more white. The square is called Willow I do love this pattern and love you can change the colours for the rows to give a different looking Blanket. I also tried a new pattern for the edging using Attic 24 scallop border but I found the slip st awkward so changed it to SC which I found quicker but I think that what made it a bit floppy so next time I may just change my crochet hook. Oh dear blanket finished and off we go up North so new crochet challenge a star baby's blanket, the pattern is quite easy but my problem my crocheting was loose and irregular so I changed my needle and thinking I should of used white instead of cream but its started now and I don't plan to change it now.

Rib baskets are like twill baskets you either love them or eh....not so much. We've talked a lot about the different ways you can lash hoops together in other blog posts but what about getting those ribs into the lashing. I've used lots of different mediums in rib constructed basketry including willow, carved oak, a
