Happy Valentine Day

Unfortunately not my owls. This picture was made at an owl breeding farm (a HUGE owl breeding farm). I'm not sure on the species but totally fell in love with the way they stared out of focus...lol

Although we've seen lots of birds of prey during our vacation, this tiny Scops Owl was by far the cutest. When you put your two fists on top of eachother, you have about the size of this little owl. Shot, straight off the balcony of one of the rooms at Hoya Hoya Tsonga Lodge in Kruger National Park - South Africa. (Thanks, Karen!). It was nice to shoot at eye-level, for once! 500mm handheld (I've developed some serious biceps during this vacation! :-) Wishing you all the most wonderful weekend!

Owls are everywhere. Our fascination with them goes back millennia into the roots of cultures all over the world. I will not go into the stories and myths that surround them - they are too numerous to retell here - instead I will share images of actual owls and a small sampling of beads inspired by them.
