"Lyons Den" is Victoria’s take on the classic toile de Jouy wallpaper, reimagined to tell the enchanting tale of an animal-led safari. This design brings a whimsical twist to the traditional pastoral scenes typically associated with toile, replacing them with a vibrant and imaginative narrative where animals take centre stage. For the Lyons Den, I wanted to create a wallpaper perfect for both a child's nursery as well as for a grand hallway, something exquisite, suitable for the young and the young at heart. A friend looking for her own child's nursery inspired this design. I began drawing during her pregnancy and many months of work later, the design was complete just in time for baby Maggies arrival. Her surname is Lyons, therefore Lions had to be the theme of the wallpaper. I am fascinated with Tanzania and the immense ecosystems of the Serengeti and Kitula national parks. We decided on this being the setting for the design. Loving the idea of incorporating hot air balloons into the wallpaper, an animal led safari started to shape the story. I love the traditional french toile style of wallpaper, so delicate, chic and intricate; it seemed the perfect way to layout and colourise it. The design escalated from there, with endless additions and tweaks, but the devil really is in the detail for this one. Time-On-Task Observation Chart: Usage Guide TTake the Time-On-Task Observation Chart and a timer/wristwatch to the location where you will be observing the student. It is best if a student does not know you are observing him/her. Choose a typical peer to compare to the student you are observing. I would often choose a peer wearing the same color shirt, same brand of shoes, same type of pants, same color of hair, or other similar options. You may also want to record this student’s name in a secret location for future reference. I chose not to put a spot for that purpose on this sheet so that this information could be shared with parents and other stakeholders. At the top of every minute, glance at the student you are observing and the typical peer. If a student is on task, place a checkmark in the corresponding column for each student. If a student is off task, do likewise. Upon the completion of your observation time period, calculate the total times each student was on task and each student was off task. From those numbers calculate the percentage of time each student was on task and each student was off task. Be sure to also take notes (possibly on the back of the ToT sheet) to indicate things that might be distractors. You may consider things such as Homecoming, special schedules, special events, distractions that affected the whole class, being on/off medication(s), and traumatic events. This information can help make decisions on the usefulness of this data. Make sure to observe the student in several different subjects and settings to make comparisons of time of day, subject matter, teacher, and classroom activity. It is also important to make observations of the student in the same setting so comparisons can be made with that data. Use this chart to track a behavior IEP goal or as part of the RTI/MTSS process.
