This has been one of the star pieces in my personal collection for years. I have never worn it as it is XS and I am not, but I have always admired it. Have you ever seen anything like it? It has a slight surreal/Schiaparelli look about it. I wonder if it was made as a sort of homage. I am fairly sure it is a one off. I bought it in LA so it may even have been a costume for something. I apologise in advance. I can never do a short listing and this will probably be longer than most of mine so settle in for a novella here but I just feel this dress is important and rare although I could not tell you why.... I am unsure of the date of this dress. I would put it at late 1930s but it could be 1940s. It has a cutaway shoulder V neckline. There are gathers at the top of the sleeves with little pads underneath to give them a bit of height. There is a fitted panel across the waist. There is a metal zip at the side. The waist has a slight V dip in it. The skirt and underskirt are cut on the bias and are meant to hang full but straight if that makes sense, so there is sweep and movement, good for dancing. The colour is a darker orange. I don't mean dull. What we would call a scarlet or poppy red which is more orange than red, but heading in that direction. This is jersey.....that vintage jersey that has no stretch to is but is silky and smooth. The underskirt is shiny and smooth, possibly a rayon. The skirt itself is a voile, like a very fine net. I am unsure of the fabric content of both the jersey or voile. The jersey comes up in old vintage time and again, but I have never really known the content. Possibly a rayon. When I got the dress, it was very dingy. My weak area is cleaning. I am so cautious and don't always know the fabric content or how to treat it. If that is the case, I leave it for others who have more knowledge or better access to people who do. As yet, I have not found a trustworthy seamstress or dry cleaners. The skirt, being off white, was almost grey with dust. So I carefully put the bottom of the skirt in the tub and washed gently with Woolite. The skirt came up well and is now more off white. I didn't do the jersey mostly because I was worried about colour run. I also never ironed the skirt so it looks slightly shorter than the underskirt at the moment. If this was properly pressed, it would probably be back to the same length as the underskirt. I call this the flame dress because that is what it looks like to me. The voile sleeves and skirt have orange jersey flame shapes appliquéd over the top of them so it looks like they run into the white. So unusual and slightly surreal. Yet the dress is such a pretty evening gown shape. It is like that combo of naughty and nice or the angel on one shoulder, the devil on the other. Certainly whoever wears this would look both elegant and a bit devilish. This is what appealed to me and why I bought it even though I knew I could never wear it. Size - at a guess from looking at it, I would definitely say this is XS at most (possibly smaller XXS?). Because of the rigidity of both my mannequins, I could not get this dress over their solid shoulders and boobs and that is why it is photographed flat. Measured flat and doubled where appropriate. Please compare these measurements to something similar you own (fabric with no give) that fits you. **since I wrote the listing, persuaded a friend to try it on. It did not quite fit her at the waist (she is 26 and the dress is 22) which is why the zip is open and it gapes on the far side of her. Her bust is 34 and hips 38. She just about squeezed in there but could have done with being a bit smaller to be comfortable. Bust: 32 inches (maybe more because there are gathers) Top of the waist panel: 24 inches Middle of the Waist Panel: 22 inches Bottom of the waist panel: 24 inches Hips: 36 inches Sleeve opening: 9 inches Condition: I have taken plenty of photos at high resolution so please zoom in. I have also taken photos of the dress inside out. And I have more than I could list but am also happy to take more if needed. I am going to list everything here to the best of my ability. Please note that these are all fixable. But given the dress, should be done by someone with way more skill than I have to do it right. So I have left everything as is. The dress is basically in good condition. On the orange jersey, there is one noticeable hole of about 5mm on the right shoulder as you wear it. One of the seams on the left shoulder has opened up by about 2cm. There is another area of about 1cm on the waist lower right. There are a few other places where it looks like the seam might need reinforcing. There are a few clicks on the jersey but not many. The V at the neckline has split a tiny bit. There is a hole in the jersey just on the inside of the neck line that you cannot see when you wear it but should be attended to so it doesn't get worse. There is one place on the left lower waist where white thread is showing through. I don't know if this has been repaired at some point and this is why. The voile is very strong. There is one small tear on the right sleeve. I count about 9 holes, the biggest being 1cm, in the skirt. I am bound to have missed a couple more really small ones because you certainly cannot see them with the underskirt background and in amongst the folds. But you can when you hold the skirt up to the light. The hem of the voile skirt is still a bit dusty. The whole dress could do with a proper clean by an experience professional. There is a slight tear in the voile close to the bottom of the zip. The underskirt has a slight brown mark on it but is otherwise fine. When you look at everything on the inside, it looks a bit messy. But I once saw the interior of a couture dress and was amazed at how messy that looked. There is a lot of handsewing here. But it all seems quite strong and intact. If you are going to wear this, and you or a seamstress is going to deal with the holes, worth looking over the seams and reinforcing them. Who knows how old the thread is. Other than that, everything is good to my eye. I have tried to pick up everything which sounds like a lot. The only thing you can see immediately is the hole on the shoulder. Everything else is quite hidden. But if you want to wear it, I can only suggest you have this "serviced" as it were. I will go out on a limb and say you will never see another dress like this so best to keep it in good order so it lasts. Layaway is available. Please zoom in on photos to see condition. This amazing and arresting Italian vintage cluster of pop hued plastic beads in orange/red and interspersed with crystal lucite clear beads is so dramatic on the neck. It is hallmarked Made in Italy Coppola e Toppo. It was commissioned by Emilio Pucci for Pucci by the brother and sister team of Coppola e Toppo. Bruno Coppola and Lyda Toppo began in MIlan Italy. Elsa Schiaparelli actually launched their career after commissioning them to do a line of faux beaded jewelry. All else followed was success by other couture designers in commissions. There are 6 rows of tight cluster plastic beads in alternating colors at random increments. They look like glass beads. This is like a large beaded dramatic collar on the neck. This is show stopping! I would say this is more on the rare side and pretty fabulous! This needs a woman who is dramatic and is very confident to wear such a piece. Your neck size must be a size 15" or smaller. A longer or taller neck is also better. The size is 7" L/ H and the width of the entire necklace on your neck is 7" W. Each side of the beaded cluster forms are 2.85" W. It is a great piece on your neck! This is so stunning for any seasons and a most conversational and dramatic beaded necklace. This would now be perfect for all seasons now of 2023. What a chic addition to your ensemble this will be!

As a small child the only bear I had ever seen was Smokey!!, but when my parents took my grandparents and I to Yellowstone National Park when I was eight, there were bears everywhere. Long lines of cars would be stopped with bears all around them, some on top of them and lots of bears begging at windows. People will always do what they are not supposed to do, and these bears were used to tourist feeding them, so naturally they were eager to continue this bad behavior. Then, off to girl scout camp in the Ozarks, I was always worried that our late night time excursions to the latrine would cross the path of bears out for a nightly stroll. And there were rumors that it had happened more than once but never to me thank goodness. In the summer of my 14th year while I was on the train to Girl Scout Roundup in Vermont, a poor lonely bear wandered into my east Texas hometown where he was illegally shot in someone's backyard. It made the news, in not only state papers but national ones as well and the nightly TV news, where this poor 200 lb bear grew to 800 lbs in the length of a 24 hr news cycle without the benefit of 24 hr news!!! And there was that bear coming down the path just as my granddaughter's cabinmates were opening the cabin door for their overnight at her children's camp in the NC mountains. Quick thinking counselors, found a excuse to go back inside before the kids had seen the bear and wisely decided to hold the campout on the cabin floor while one counselor climbed off the porch and down the hillside to the office to report "bear in camp." Everyone else was in the dining hall for supper, and less than 3 people were around to witness this unusual event. One which I never told my granddaughter's mother about until my granddaughter had completely aged out of camp - sorry, but it was totally rare event and the child loved camp. I didn't want to jeopardize her return the next year. I did feel bad about that, but life is choices. I must admit that bears were more fun when encountered in Disney World.....where "Thank goodness I'm a Country Bear" was one of the most fun and entertaining and long lasting shows there. We first went when my daughter was three, and it was one of our favorite things. We never missed it on our other visits. The show changed over time, but it was always great......poor city people, they never realize that all bears aren't "Smokey." and few actually sing.... MAY BE WORN AS A SHAWL OR AS A SCARF. THIS IS MADE OF A LIGHT WEIGHT SILK. This lightweight shawl/scarf is made of 100% 5mm Habotai China silk and originally measured 45"x 108" scarf, but dye prep washing caused some shrinkage, pleating reduced it further. Colors are light yellow, orange, blue, and lavender under dye and a bright blue, apple green, plum, bright yellow, coral orange, spring green and their blends over dye. Remember: 100% satisfaction guaranteed. (see refund policy) This shawl/scarf was under dyed, washed, dried and ironed into fourths, wrapped around a pipe, bound in circles to the pipe with fishing line, and compressed into "pleats." The pleats were over-dyed and the scarf was washed and allowed to dry on the pipe to set the pleats. TO RETAIN THE PLEATS KEEP IT DRY. Do not wear in the rain or when humidity is over 80%. When dirty you can try professional dry cleaning to retain pleats, but I do not advise it because something will be wet in the process and part of the scarf will be unpleated. I advise washing it, ironing it (into halves/quarters even) and enjoying the visual texture/color of the scarf. When you are ready to repleat it, I will be happy to tell you how to repleat it, or after washing, you can return it to me for repleating (my repleating charge is $10.00, $5.00 of which is used to reship it to you in a box - just convo me).
