Hi everyone! I am super excited about these books that I am going to show you today! These books are very similar to my Winter Interactive Books that have been very popular with my students. I am proud to bring you... Spring Interactive Books! These are simple, fun books that can be used in a variety of different ways. They are pretty simple to assemble with a little lamination and Velcro. Complete instructions for how to assemble these books are included in the packet. The first book is called What Do You See? In this book, students use the interactive pieces to complete sentences about things that they can see in the spring. Examples include a bee, an umbrella, a rainbow, and grass. Here is an example of a page: The second book is called Spring Activities. In this book, students use the interactive pieces to complete sentences about activities they can do in the spring. Examples include blowing bubbles, riding bikes, planting flowers, and jumping in puddles. Here is an example of a page: These books are great because they can be very versatile. I use them with my students who have ASD and need help expanding their utterance length. Sometimes, I will pull the book apart and pull off two or three interactive pieces to create a smaller field of choices for my students. Here is a picture of what that looks like: I also use these books for some of my Kindergarten and First Grade students who need a little help with using complete sentences. I use them for WH questions such as: When do you see grass? What do you see in the spring? What can you ride in the spring? These books have been so much fun for me to make and use with my students. Many of the students I work with have trouble answering WH questions. For example, they might answer a question like "Where do you sleep?" by saying "Blue". Or I might ask, "Who delivers your mail?" and they will answer "Mailbox". These types of students often have trouble matching the WH word to their respective answers. This interactive book will help teach your students how to answer WH questions. Your students will learn that "who" means a person, "where" means a place, and "what" means a thing. This 20 page book is designed so that you can copy the book, cut it in half, staple, and then it is ready for use. The 20 pages consist of a title page “Why? Why? asked Freddy the Fly.” Then each of the remaining 19 pages include a total of 9 short stories with a matching color picture and one "why" question relating to the story with the page following each story that includes two questions using either what, where, how, who, and when. The final page is a black and white picture of Freddy the fly for students to color. All pages are shown in the preview. These stories and questions can be put together in booklet form as discussed above or individual sheets can be used. The story/questions are on a half sheet of paper. No matter what format you decide on, there are many uses for these stories/questions. The stories include a variety of reading levels. They can be used in a kindergarten class with the teacher reading the story and questions to the students and having the students use invented spelling to write their answers. They can also be used for independent reading practice in first or second grade by letting students read the short story, read the questions, and answer the questions even if they have to look back in the story to find and write the answer.
