This handspun bobble art yarn is called Jacob because it resembles in coloring the Jacob breed sheep. Although there is no Jacob wool in it. It is spun from an art bat I created with various natural colored fibers including Merino, Coriedale, Alpaca and hand dyed Teesewater locks. It is super bulky corespun with hand dyed Teeswater wool locks. It is beautiful and soft with larger and smaller coils. This skein weights 4.44 oz and measures 7 yards 31 inches. This yarn is unique and I won't be able to reproduce it. When it's gone, it's gone! Art yarn like this is best suited for weaving but you can use it for adding some details to your textile garments or other fiber arts and crafts projects. If you are interested in art yarn spun specifically for your project, please don't hesitate to reach out. I will be happy to spin a special order for you! I do my best to take pictures using natural light which most accurately represents the colors in my products, however, some screen and monitor settings may show color differently. Follow me on Instagram and TikTok @FibersOfMine to be the first to know of the shop updates and new projects. THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING MY SMALL BUSINESS ♡
While looking for period tents, a friend came across this picture! I love it :) It's not every day you see Anglo-saxon women preparing a warp and weaving under a pavilion :) There is so much to see in this picture. The women's clothing, the furniture, the pavilion, and the loom.

This Turkish Drop Spindle created by Riley Wood And Fiber Art is Mini size and completely handmade from only the finest ethically sourced domestic, and tropical species in both hard and soft woods. A Turkish Drop Spindle is a wonderful way to create your own handspun yarn. It is a type of suspended spindle that hangs from the fiber as you spin. It has a shaft and two interlocking arms that make a whorl at the bottom. Spinning with a Turkish Drop Spindle is a relaxing and enjoyable activity that can produce beautiful and unique yarns. You can experiment with different fibers, colors, and techniques to create your own custom blends. You can also use your handspun yarn for knitting, crocheting, weaving, or other crafts. A Turkish Drop Spindle is a simple but versatile tool that can help you unleash your creativity and express yourself through Fiber Art. The yarn is wound around the arms as you spin, creating a center-pull ball that can be easily removed when you are done. A Turkish Drop Spindle is super easy to use, ultra-portable, and really fun! The cross pieces or "whorl" of this Mini Turkish Drop Spindle is handmade from Canary and the shaft is hand turned from Curly Maple. This spindle weighs approximately 7.94 grams. The cross pieces or “whorl” is 2.5” or 6cm wide overall. That goes for both small and large pieces of the whorl. Both pieces are exactly the same thickness and width. When unassembled the small piece nests almost perfectly with the larger one. The shaft is roughly 3.5” or 9cm long. Turkish Drop Spindles are very fun to spin fiber with! For someone just learning, this type of spindle is absolutely ideal. Because you can literally stop the spindle, (without fear of losing your twist), and “park & draft”, as it’s called. This method is best for beginners all the way to someone learning to add embellishing or making novelty yarn. I spend close to 2 hours with each spindle making sure they are Heirloom Quality. Ensuring great balance, and a spinning experience that’s unlike any other. To use a Turkish drop spindle, you need to attach a leader yarn to the shaft and wind it around the arms in a crisscross pattern. (typically, under one, over two). Then, you can draft some fiber from a rolag, roving, or batt and join it to the leader. You can spin the spindle either clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on the direction of the twist you want. As you spin, you can “park” the spindle between your knees or under your arm or let it sit on a table, to control the tension and “draft” more fiber. When you have a length of yarn, you can wind it around the arms, following the same crisscross pattern as the leader. This way, you can build up a ball of yarn on the spindle that can be easily taken off when you are finished. All of my spindles, unless otherwise noted, are finished with an eco-friendly Danish oil. Fine sanded, applied, sanded, and reapplied, if necessary. Leaving an almost silk feel to the essentially natural wood. I’m happy to share a M.S.D.S if you’d like. I do reuse boxes that cut down on cost and I do my best to recycle where appropriate. You may not receive the spindle pictured, unless noted above. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about this, or any of my products, please, do not hesitate to contact me. I’m always here to answer questions, give advice or tips on any of my products, uses/capabilities. I typically respond within five minutes, which I believe is extremely important in building rapport, credibility, and getting to know you as a customer, when appropriate. Proudly Made in America Thank you so much for considering my shop.

Deco Lines by Jennifer Weissman of ShadyStroll Knits celebrates the outstanding Art Deco architecture that adorns New York City. Weissman used to work near Rockefeller Center and often admired the dramatic geometric forms ornamenting doorways, lobbies and elevators. It only seems natural that she would create a glorious piece by weaving some of these shapes into this cozy reversible scarf. Deco Lines is shaped like a rectangle with pointed ends, knitted from one point to the other on the bias. As you knit, you will travel through a variety of reversible textures that complement one another as they keep your project interesting. Weissman recommends solid or semi-solid colors to accentuate the texture of the scarf. Fully written instructions are provided, along with an optional chart for one of the stitch patterns. 2 Sizes. From a single dandelion or bindweed, Suzie Grieve weaves minuscule baskets, pouches, and other wearables that are smaller than the tip of her finger. The braided vessels are the result of a lengthy, holistic process that extends from foraging the wild fibers to twisting the processed cords into durable little containers. Whether striped, checkered, or coiled in rows, each basket is a testament to Grieve’s patience and ability to adapt a traditional craft into an unusually tiny form. More
I have been fascinated with oya crochet for quite a long time. Always admiring minute, exquisite stitches that marvelously compose a whole new intricate and enchanting world. The history of this decorative edging known also as "Turkish lace" is thought to date back to the 8th century B.C. in Anatolia. Traditionally, Anatolian women used oya edgings to decorate their headdresses and scarves, under and outer garments, edges of towels and napkins, and today they are also popular as jewelry. Oya edging, which appears all over Anatolia in various forms and motifs, has different names depending on the means employed: needle, crochet hook, shuttle, hairpin, bead, tassel to name just a few. What I find immensely compelling is the messages they used to convey. Keeping in mind that this was a region where a woman was expected to remain silent or not bring up certain subjects, they had quite a lot to tell through their oya. Oya was the secret language they developed to tell the world what they had or how they felt. For example blue oya meant happiness and yellow meant tiredness. Girls engaged to marry the man they love wore oya of pink hyacinths and almond blossoms, while a girl in love wore purple hyacinths. Plum blossom oya was worn by brides. A girl engaged to be married sends a piece of oya -edged printed cloth to her prospective mother-in-law. If what she sends is ‘meadow and grass’ oya, this implies that their relations are cordial. But if she sends ‘gravestone’ oya, it means ‘the coldness between us will endure until death’. Since the oya is seen by the neighbors at the wedding ceremony, it is of course the wish of all mothers-in-law that their new daughters-in-law wrap ‘meadow-grass’ oya around their heads. The groom’s family, too, sends the bride a ‘bridal cloth’ with two or three oya flowers from which the bridal headdress will be made. I have tried my hand at oya by making a tiny flower, but in the future I would love to include some beads and actually make it a big project. Here's a free pattern for a necklace, courtesy of Wendy from the Sunshine Creations. Information about the meaning of oya was taken from Turkish Cultural Foundation and the respective links for the images I used in this post can be found on my pin board here.
It was one of Ruta's heavenly birds that captured my attention and it opened the gates to Ruta's amazingly mind-blowing world of micro crochet. I invited her over for an interview, so let's find out more about this masterful designer. Hello Ruta and welcome to the blog! Please introduce yourself to my readers- who is Ruta privately and professionally? I am a crochet loving caffeine junky. Sewing thread hoarder. Princess on a bead. You earned your bachelor and master’s textiles degree at the Vilnius Art Academy, Faculty of Arts in Kaunas. Who was most influential in your work /inspiration and how did your artistic career develop through the years? All of my teachers where and are very strong personalities, incredible artists. Of course, some of them had more influence, but I think it would be politically incorrect to exclude any of them:) I am just glad to have studied in the period they were professors at the academy. I've come to understand that you participated in the costume making for theater plays. What did that engagement require and what kind of costumes did you make? Yes, the theater is always in my life, even though I hate it. :) Just kidding. Although, even if I don't actively pursue work in the theater, somehow I end up there. Just finished one in Oslo where I was a scenographer. Your micro crochet jewelry is dazzling, unique and extraordinary, made out of the thinnest sewing threads. How did sewing threads enter your life and enchant you? My grandmother is a seamstress, her house was full of sewing threads and fabrics. It was natural. Later during my studies I remember I bought an old box at a flea market where I accidentally found a 0,75mm hook. And I was hooked. Besides sewing threads that are your signature tool for telling your stories and expressing your world, what other materials do you enjoy using and incorporating in your pieces? For me the most favorite place in the world is a hardware store, when I get to one I feel like a child in a candy store – I go nuts - I want to buy everything and implement in to my work. Of course I have some preferences, my number one favorite material, after sewing threads of course, is beads. But for now they are stored in large quantities under my bed waiting for their turn. Your portfolio looks like a wondrous, colorful storybook. As a motif, paradise birds seem to be your signature pieces. Can you please share the process of creating one? What does the birth of a bird look like? It looks like a lengthy process because your work is immaculate to perfection and extremely detailed. There are a few stages: first of all I gather all my threads and I stare at them Oo. I decide on the type and figure out the gamma. I begin with the feather. Since crocheting is a long and sometimes meditating process, by the time I finish the feather I usually contemplate the rest of the bird. Apart from birds, what other motifs do you like to work on? I would like to work on many things. I always have tons of projects circling my mind but given the limited amount of time we are given only few materialize. At the moment I'm obsessed with victorian sentimental mourning hair jewelry. What comes next – only my doctor knows :) Your participation in exhibitions is extensive and admirable. What exhibition had the greatest impact and influence in your promotion as a micro crochet artist ? I only recently started to actively participate as a crotchet artist, so it's kind of hard to pick one, but I think the honorable mention award I got from the Triple Parade exhibition gave me a boast. Can you describe an ordinary day working on your crochet pieces? TV's on, 1th cup of coffee, squirrel turning the wheel making electricity for my TV. Nothings on. I prefer to dive strait into work while I'm drinking my first cup of coffee but it all depends on the light and the time of the year. For crocheting I usually need good lighting. In the summer I can work from early morning to late at night. What part of the process is the most enjoyable? Is there a particular place where you like to work? I would say manual labour – the actual crocheting – when I contemplate new ideas. What do you do in your free time? Drink coffee extensively and enjoy being lazy. Your plans for the future? Any upcoming exhibitions? I am opening my studio for Oslo Open festival this weekend. One of my birds is in France right now, another one in the Netherlands and soon it will be traveling to Ukraine. So my birds are pretty busy at the moment. If you like Ruta's work, you can follow her on her social media: Web, IG FB.
