The Great Gallery Pictograph in Horseshoe Canyon, Canyonlands National Park. This canyon is located about 2.5 hrs from Moab in an extension of Canyonlands National Park. The canyon is known for its well preserved pictographs dating back to 2000BCE to 500CE (Common Era). To see the rock art, a hike along the bottom of the canyon is required. The hike is 6.5 miles round trip and is rated as moderately strenuous. It can be dangerously hot in the summer. All photos in my shop are available for purchase. Custom sizing is also available. Using "BCE" and "CE" rather than "BC" and "AD" doesn't privilege Christianity—it just refers to the common era Christianity and other religions.
01. Fart jokes have existed since at least 1900 BCE. A Sumerian quip about a woman farting in her husband’s lap is the world’s oldest recorded joke.
The dry-zone water-harvesting and management system in Sri Lanka is one of the oldest historically recorded systems in the world. A substantial number of ancient sources mention the management and governance structure of this system suggesting it was initiated in the 4th century BCE (Before Common Era) and abandoned in the middle of the 13th century CE (Common Era). In the 19th century CE, it was reused under the British colonial government. This research aims to identify the ancient water management and governance structure in the dry zone of Sri Lanka through a systematic analysis of ancient sources. Furthermore, colonial politics and interventions during reclamation have been critically analyzed. Information was captured from 222 text passages containing 560 different records. 201 of these text passages were captured from lithic inscriptions and 21 text passages originate from the chronicles. The spatial and temporal distribution of the records and the qualitative information they contain reflect the evolution of the water management and governance systems in Sri Lanka. Vast multitudes of small tanks were developed and managed by the local communities. Due to the sustainable management structure set up within society, the small tank systems have remained intact for more than two millennia.
If you encounter a date in conjunction with CE (Common Era) or BCE (Before Common Era), don't fret. They mean exactly the same thing as anno Domini (AD) and before Christ (BC).
The antiretroviral activities of extracts of Euphorbia hirta were investigated in vitro on the MT4 human T lymphocyte cell line. The cytotoxicities of the extracts were tested by means of the MTT cell proliferation assay, and then the direct effects of the aqueous extract on HIV-1, HIV-2 and SIVmac251 reverse transcriptase (RT) activity were determined. A dose-dependent inhibition of RT activity was observed for all three viruses. The HIV-1 inhibitory potency of E. hirta was studied further, and the activities of the aqueous and 50% methanolic extracts were compared. The 50% methanolic extract was found to exert a higher antiretroviral effect than that of the aqueous extract. The 50% MeOH extract was subjected to liquid-liquid partition with dichloromethane, ethyl acetate and water. Only the remaining aqueous phase exhibited significant antiviral activity; all the lipophilic extracts appeared to be inactive. After removal of the tannins from the aqueous extract, the viral replication inhibitory effect was markedly decreased, and it was therefore concluded that tannins are most probably responsible for the high antiretroviral activity.

Answer (1 of 9): The term BC (“Before Christ”) was in use for many, many centuries, as was AD (Anno Domini, “The Year of Our Lord”). Then, in an ill-advised fit of ‘inclusiveness’, the terms were altered to BCE (“Before Common Era”) and CE (“Common Era”) respectively. Experience has shown that m...
