Ever wondered where all that rain goes after a storm? Most of it is absorbed by soil and plants, while watersheds carry the rest into nearby lakes and rivers.
A watershed is an area of land that drains to a river, lake or stream. It includes all the land, air, plants and animals within its borders. Land forms such as hills or heights of land largely determine the boundaries of watersheds and direct the speed and path of its rivers. Each watershed has a […]
Applications of Geospatial Technology and Modeling for River Basin Management, Volume Twelve covers the use of multi-temporal satellite data for accurate estimations of different watershed features. It includes methods and case studies of the use of geographic information systems (GIS) as a valuable tool for criteria-based spatial analysis to manage natural resources and accurately simulate natural phenomena such as the hydrologic response of a watershed to precipitation and susceptibility to water erosion. The book also provides direction on many types of modelling and mapping techniques in geospatial environments based on river basin management challenges. This book will be a useful guide for academics, researchers, and practitioners involved in the use of geospatial technologies for river basin management, as well as those interested in environmental management and Earth surface geomorphology.

A king beheaded. A monarchy abolished. And a commoner leading a republic by military rule set in their place. The wars that tore through the country in the mid-seventeenth century - splitting government, communities and families alike - were a true watershed in English history. But how, with Queen Elizabeth I's Golden Age still in living memory, did such a situation arise? Exploring the period's political disputes, religious conflicts and military battles, Patrick Little scrutinizes the nature and practicalities of conducting a civil war on English soil, as well as the experiences and motivations of key factions and combatants. By assessing how the realities of life in England shaped the conflict -and were torn apart by it - this wonderfully readable Beginner's Guide gets to the very heart of how a people came to kill their king.

My PowerPoints are designed to not only engage students from beginning to end, but also cover all the information in the CED as effectively as possible. To achieve this, the lectures inter-weave content, over-arching themes, case studies, and essential learning skills. 2. Guided notes without blanks. This is the "key" and I have these for students who have disabilities. This is not included in the price since some people do not use guided notes. 3. Guided notes with blanks (again, not included in the price). I give students the entire unit note packet, but if you are just buying the one lesson, it just includes notes for this PowerPoint. Scaffolded notes allow students to watch and listen, while only noting key vocabulary and labeling of diagrams. I find this is the most effective note-taking style. There are several regional and local watersheds in Kentucky. This interactive, adapted from Kentucky’s Natural Heritage: An Illustrated Guide to Biodiversity, provides a video clip that explains what watersheds are, and where they can be found. Students are introduced to the different waterways located in a watershed area: headwater stream, watershed divide, and river mouth. Students are also encouraged to find their homes on a map to see if they live close to a river or its tributaries.

The first comprehensive natural history guide to the Connecticut River and its environs, with more than 750 illustrations The Connecticut River, New England's longest and most historic river, originates in northern New Hampshire and wends more than four hundred miles to Long Island Sound. It forms the border between Vermont and New Hampshire and widens significantly as it makes its way through Massachusetts and Connecticut. The Connecticut River Valley is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the eastern United States, and more than two million people live in the watershed. Renowned naturalist Patrick J. Lynch offers readers an expansive guide to this majestic region with more than 750 original maps, photographs, and illustrations. Organized around environments rather than particular locations, the book includes geological overviews and descriptions of common plants and animals. An informal, informative introduction to lead mining in the Northern Pennines. Uniquely, the theme and structure are both guided by the "Pennine Poems" of the late W.H.Auden. Chapters on geology, technology, the environmental legacy of mining, social history, industrial history and heritage tourism are all introduced by lines from poetry as the authors respond to Auden's claim (made in the poem, The Watershed) that the land he saw before him refused to communicate. Well researched, colourfully illustrated and thoughtfully formatted, the book describes the ways the land does speak. The book contains two complete Auden poems and extracts from five others.
