Hi, friends! This post is all about the 2017-2018 In-Colors. I really like these colors (much more than the ones we just retired, I must admit)! I used each of the colors as a base for my Watercolor Wings cards. They are, left to right, Fresh Fig, Tranquil Tide, Lemon Lime Twist, Powder Pink and Berry Burst. Ta-da! I used the masking technique to overlap all my butterflies. A little time-consuming, but so worth the effort! The first step is to stamp the butterfly on a post-it note and fussy-cut it. Begin by stamping the first butterfly in the lower left corner on your Whisper White card front. Cover it with the mask and stamp the second butterfly. Move the mask to cover the second butterfly and stamp the third. You get the idea - just keep going until you have all the butterflies you want! #1 - Fresh Fig, Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight & Pear Pizzazz. The bodies are stamped in Basic Gray. I like to "hang" images off the edge of the card - it gives the illusion that something more is happening beyond the edge of the page. Mysterious. #2 - Tranquil Tide, Peekaboo Peach, Sweet Sugarplum & So Saffron. Did you notice the Glitter Enamel Dots? They're new and I love that even though there are only 4 colors in the package, there are graduated shades of each color. Gives you a lot of flexibility for mixing and matching! #3 - Lemon Lime Twist, Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo, So Saffron and Pool Party. I used the sentiments from Garden in Bloom on all the cards. This one may be my favorite... #4 - Powder Pink, Calypso Coral, So Saffron, Smoky Slate and Soft Sky. On this one I added a mat of Smoky Slate between the card front and the base. Not because I thought it needed it (although I do really like it this way), but because I got a smear of ink along the edge of the card front after I was all finished and needed to trim it off. Don't tell anyone. :) #5 - Berry Burst, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry and Pumpkin Pie. Maybe this one is my favorite...I just can't decide! I finished the inside of each card with two more butterflies. I had a lot of fun today making sample colours for the new stamp set "Watercolor Wings". Going through this exercise reminded me of the SAB Lotus Blossom stamp set where 3 colours were used to stamp the flower. First of all, I'm going to start with a card I made using this stamp set, The basic cardstock is Tip Top Taupe layered with Whisper white cardstock. Before adhering the Whisper white cardstock to the card base, a piece of 1" Tip Top Taupe dotted lace ribbon was attached. A second piece of ribbon was ruffled using a needle and linen thread and attached on top of the first ribbon with glue dots. The image panel is Go Wild DSP matted with Tip Top Taupe. The butterfly was stamped first with Tip Top Taupe (stamped off), then Tip Top Taupe (full strength), and finally Black Memento. The body is Tip Top Taupe, as are the antennae. Some white dots, using a white gel pen were applied to the black dots at the bottom. The butterfly was die cut using the new coordinating "Bold Butterfly Framelits. A second butterfly in Tip Top Taupe was die cut and the two were adhered in the middle, so the wings can flap. A piece of Whisper White cardstock was die cut using the new "Lots of Labels Framelits". Before matting it with a Basic Black framelit, it was embossing using the Boho Chic embossing folder. This unit was then adhered to the DSP panel near the top. Tip Top Taupe ink was used to stamp the sentiment from "Another Thank You". It was punched using the small oval punch, layered with a 1 1/4" Tip Top Taupe circle and finally a Basic Black modern word label punchie. It was adhered at the bottom of the image panel. I will put my supply list at the bottom of this post. Now, for the "how to" Watch Patty Bennett's video. I learned a lot watching it. She has some neat ideas, so rather than reinvent the wheel, I am going to embed the video in this post: I have made my own colour samplers, some of which are the same as Patty's, but some are different. Any colour combination can be used. I actually went to Pinterest where I have a folder on butterflies, and they were useful in stimulating some of my colour choices. Have fun! Hello, friends! The retirement list of Stampin' Up products is out and I'm feeling all sentimental about my favorites that are retiring. From now until May 31, I'll try to share favorite stamps, papers and embellishments that deserve one last look before they're gone! Here's my offering for today to tempt you... The stamp sets are Watercolor Wings & One Big Meaning. I've stamped the butterfly in Pink Pirouette & Sweet Sugarplum. Both of those colors plus the stamp sets and matching Bold Butterfly framelits are on the retirement list! Ouch... A little bit about how I stamped the butterfly...on a piece of Whisper White cardstock, I stamped the first layer in Pink Pirouette. Then I stamped the second layer in Sweet Sugarplum. I cut it out with the Bold Butterfly framelits BEFORE stamping the body in Basic Gray. Trust me, this is the best way to get proper placement on the body. Unless, of course, you have a Stamparatus, then lining up things like this is a breeze! Take a piece of Silver Metallic Thread and wrap it around the palm of your hand about 5 times - slide it off and twist it in the middle (it will look sort of like a figure 8). Lay it on top of your butterfly, cover it with a smaller butterfly that you've cut from vellum, and place a staple right down the center of the body to anchor it all together. I used my trusty Swingline desktop stapler for this step. Lastly, give the edges of the wings a little "lift" by gently curling them around a pencil or the edge of your bone folder. The card base is Pink Pirouette & the gray layer is Smoky Slate. I used the dotty stamp from Waterfront for the background. The grouping of 3 larger dots is included in Watercolor Wings, as is the faint little butterfly image you can see to the left of "thanks". A few tips about Retirement Time... The retirement list looks HUGE this year because it includes all of our ink pads...we are getting a new easy-opening stackable style case! But seventeen colors are leaving us for good. If you already own these colors, focus on making sure you have ink refills for them! They are: Always Artichoke Chocolate Chip Elegant Eggplant Island Indigo Marina Mist Perfect Plum Pink Pirouette Rose Red Soft Sky Tangerine Tango Tempting Turquoise Wild Wasabi Wisteria Wonder Dapper Denim Emerald Envy Peekaboo Peach Sweet Sugarplum Secondly, all of the current bundles are on the list. Some of the individual components will be available in the new catalog, but they will no longer be available in a bundle at 10% savings. So check your wish list for bundles and save some dough now! Lastly, due to high demand for retiring stamp sets, retiring stamp sets are guaranteed available until May 25; everything else is available only as long as supplies last. So if you need to prioritize your purchases or place more than one order this month, concentrate on papers, dies & accessories and make your stamp purchases in May. Every year by mid April, Stampin' Up! releases the retiring products from the Annual and Occasions Catalogs. It is often bittersweet, however, it is also a renewed love for some items. For example, I have not touched the stamp set featured in today's post. I even did a Facebook Live on my customer page following my class because why not! I've stepped out of my comfort zone today, I'm using yellow! Any shade of yellow is not a "go to" colour for me, so when I saw this fortnight's INKspiration challenge, well..... I was challenged, lol I love the images provided for the INKspiration challenge, but try and try I struggled to come up with a design, so I started looking at other challenges, then when choosing a stamp set for Freshly Made Sketches I saw it, Watercolour Wings and it dawned on me.... purple and yellow butterflies :-) Watercolour Wings is such a beautiful stamp set, being photopolymer it is easy to stamp the layered patterns for the butterfly. I stamped 3 butterflies, 2 on Whisper White and 1 on Vellum, to keep the colours subtle I stamped off once before stamping on the cardsotck and vellum, the exception being the body of the butterfly. I used the FMS277 layout, for my first card I added a layer of Delightful Dijon and some Crushed Curry Bakers Twine to compliment the colours in the butterfly. The sentiment is also from Watercolour Wings, and I added a little bling by the way of gold sequins to finish. I was beginning to feel more comfortable with the colours, so I got adventurous, I die cut the vellum butterfly with the large Bold Butterfly framelit, then cut cardstock butterfly using the medium Butterfly Thinlet die. I wasn't sure what I was going to do... when playing I put the detailed die cut under the stamped vellum, and oh my it looks like veins in the the butterfly wings! I used Elegant Eggplant with Crushed Curry for the card base and finished with gold sequins. Thanks for visiting today, I hope you enjoyed viewing my project. I received the Watercolor Wings stamp set last week and have played around considerably to find a look that I REALLY like. Don't get me wrong, the set is beautiful if you like the look of watercolor. I prefer a crisp image which is why I struggled with the set until now. I have looked at many websites and videos and decided the best look for me was to stamp the image, die cut it with the awesome framelits and then layer a die cut of the "intricate" design over top to give it the crispness I was looking for. I love this done with the shades of blue you see here - pool party & tempting turquoise. The top layer is black cardstock. There are some wonderful greetings that come with the set. This one happens to nestle nicely in one of the bricks on the wall (new embossing folder from Stampin' Up!)

Narelle has designed a sketch for us to use for this week's Just Add Ink challenge. I just had to use more of the gorgeous Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper stack, that you have seen a bit of on my blog lately! My chosen colour scheme is Mint Macaron, Basic Black, and Very Vanilla. I have inked up, for the first time, the gorgeous new (must-have!) stamp set called Watercolor Wings. I have used the larger of the two butterflies; each size can be used in a three-step stamp process. Onto Very Vanilla card, I stamped the solid butterfly image in Mint Macaron, that I'd first "stamped off" onto scrap paper. I then stamped the second, outer wing detail, stamp using full strength Mint Macaron ink. Finally, extra detail was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I followed this process twice. One butterfly, which forms my base, was cut out using the new Bold Butterfly framelits. The second was cut out using the "old favourite" Butterflies thinlits. Here's a side view of the butterflies, so you can better see what I attempted to describe above: I do love to embellish my cards, and decided, in the absence of ribbon, to use two new products - In Color Blossom Accents, and Metallic Sequins. I think the black sequins are a lovely size for the butterfly's body. Make sure you check out the rest of the Just Add Ink Design Team's creations, using this sketch.
