We are continuing our Bible studies about Jesus and His miracles. In this lesson, we are looking at Jesus walking on the water. Last week we studied how Jesus fed 5,000 men plus the women and children with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes. After Jesus prayed and thanked God for the food, He had the Disciples feed the crowd. After everyone had eaten, they gathered up all the leftover food and there were 12 baskets of food! (Discuss miracles: an instant act of God). This lesson is found in Matthew 14: 22-33, Mark 6:45-51 and John 6:15-21. Immediately after they collected the extra food, Jesus told His Disciples get into the boat. He told them to go to the other side of the sea and sent the people away. After Jesus sent the crowd away, He went up into the mountain by Himself to pray. When night came, Jesus was by Himself. Jesus had found out that John had been killed. Do you remember who John was? John and John were related & the one who baptized Jesus So Jesus is upset and wants some time to be alone and pray. **Let the students have a marble. Have them put the marble in a bowl of water. What happens when you put the marble on the surface of the water? [it will sink] What happens when you go into the water? You either swim or you will sink. We are going to talk about two people that walked on water! (Original idea found here.) They LOVE this! The boat with the Disciples on it was in the middle of the sea. They had rowed the boat about 3 ½ miles. There was a storm, and their boat was being tossed around by the rough waves! It was about 3:00 during the night and Jesus saw them having trouble rowing the boat and so Jesus went to them. Jesus knew they were in trouble and scared and He went to comfort them. Jesus actually walked on the water to them. Verse 25 in Matthew tells us that He walked on the sea! When the Disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were scared and thought Jesus was a ghost! They cried out in terror! But Jesus instantly told them to be happy and don’t be afraid! Peter said to Him: “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” Jesus told him to “Come.” When Peter got out of the boat, he walked on the water to Jesus! The Bible doesn’t say swim, Peter walked ON the water! But when Peter saw that the wind was strong, he became afraid and started to sink. He had taken his eyes off of Jesus and let himself be distracted by the waves and the sea. He yelled to Jesus “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him and said to Peter “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” When they returned to the boat, the wind stopped. The people in the boat came to Jesus and were amazed at what He could do. They worshipped Him and said, “Truly You are the Son of God.” I used this Galilee boat that I purchased for the Disciples lesson. But, there are so many lessons this can be used for! I had the Jell-O 'water' and people cutouts ready for the kids to use and make this Jesus walking on the water this during the lesson. We added plastic fish that I purchase, but you can use Gummy fish. You can see more and print everything here. One of the things to discuss with this lesson is that Jesus is always watching over us. I made this simple boat for the students to decorate to remind them of when Jesus is with them. They can draw their thoughts, or you can let them add stickers. You can print it here in color and black & white. Click here to print. We continue Miracles lapbook today. The students will leave them in class until we finish the miracles lessons, then they take them home. Click on the lapbook to see it. I decided to limit this lapbook to the miracles that Jesus did to prove Himself. We will study Malchus, Resurrection of Jesus and Jesus Returns to Heaven, etc., but I did not include these. If you'd like to add other miracles, you can see more Jesus lapbook printables here. Bible Verse: Matthew 14:33 Scripture taken from the New King James Version®. Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson. This was for when God gave the Israelites water in the desert. They all got a wee bottle of water to drink. We then had a fascinating discussion about where our water comes from. Rough approximation of how it went: Me: We don't get water from a rock. Where does our water come from? Child: The tap. Me: And how does it get to the tap? Child: In pipes. Me: Where does it come from before that? Child: People make it. Me: No, you can't make water. Child: The sea? Me: You wouldn't want to drink water from the sea, because it has salt in it. Our water comes from a lake called Loch Katrine. How does it get there? Child: In lorries? Children living in Scotland who have no idea that the water in our taps comes from the rain!!! Unfortunately I don't have a finished photo of any of the kids' work as we ran out of time. That's my demo picture. You will need: Pale blue card/paper Yellow/sand coloured paper/card Brown wrapping paper (I used two kinds, one for the rock and one for the faces) Coloured/patterned paper (I used wrapping paper and scrap paper), crayons etc. Thin plastic food bags - cut in half length ways. Blue 'irridescent shreds' - I got these in the party section of Home Bargains. Blue parcel ribbon, or even narrow strips of blue carrier bags would do as well. Lolly sticks or similar. Glue, scissors. Glue dots or something that can hold a stick. What to do: Tear the blue paper in half. Each child gets half a sheet and sticks it on the yellow card, to make sky/sand (actually sticking the sand on blue card would be better, but I didn't have any). Give each child a piece of brown paper (roughly) half the size of the background. They tear/cut around three sides to make a rock. Stick it on. Give each child half a plastic bag. they gather it at one end and tape near the top of the rock - they're likely to need help! Tape a few blue strips to the 'water'. Now, let them make people with the coloured paper. They can draw as well. Add the sun, or do whatever. Give Moses a stick.

My oldest son, Jake, taught Family Home Evening a couple of weeks ago. It all started with a simple experiment. I told Jake that if I poured oil on water it would float on top of the water. Then we went for the food coloring. Then it turned into a discussion, mostly his idea, that ended up being our lesson for FHE. He presented it all by himself. Here is how it went..... The water in the jar represents THE WORLD (meaning the things of this world, pride, basically the things that are not of the Lord). The Oil in the jar represents US. 1 John 2: 15-17: Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. Romans 12:1-2: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. *What does "of the world" mean? *What can we do to "present [our] bodies a living sacrifice" to the Lord?" The food coloring (which was supposed to be red...but we were out) represents THE SINS OF THE WORLD. The oil repels the coloring and it passes straight through in droplets and then colors the water. The kids LOVED that part! It is pretty fun to watch! (Stir all together) Sometimes we sin and we become like the "world". Then we need to repent. (while everything starts to seperate again we read the scriptures below) John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his eonly begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting ilife. Isaiah 1:18: Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. (When it is all settled) Doctrine & Covenants 63:47: He that is faithful and endureth shall overcome the world. (Shine a Flashlight behind the jar. The lights won't cut through the bottom part but really lights up the oil.) Matthew 5:14: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. *How can we let our light shine so that it cannot be hid? 1 John 4:1-11: Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. I love that last scripture! I could read it over and over again! Jake did such a great job. Mallory was totally into the lesson. I would consider that a success! :)

OK...the last of the 3 birthdays in a row is done! Robbie's 5th birthday party was an astronaut space party...so here is your photo journey! INVITATIONS: the boys each received a box instead of just a card (boxes courtesy of USPS priority) Here was the invitation folder... and invitation. (I used the font "neuropol." Looked so spacey!) Under their invitations, they received their official uniform (I told you I was going to love printable iron-ons) they also got a little "preflight energy food" (starburst) DECORATIONS: Of course I couldnt have had a party without a birthday banner...thanks again cricut! Chinese Lanterns! I had to order more after Jane's party. I kept trying to figure out what would look like planets, and beside paper maiche, silver lanterns were the easy way to go! So, I kept the red ones up, added a ton of silver ones in different sizes and 5 small blue ones with NASA on them. This may have messed up the look of the party, but I really wanted cute cookies on a stick. I will be the first to admit that I am NOT a cookie decorator. So, these were everywhere...maybe not super professional looking...but YUMMY!!! Ill post the recipes I used soon. ACTIVITIES: LEVEL 0: Shuttle Orientation As the kids arrived, I had them color space shuttles that had all the parts labeled. LEVEL 1: Rocket Launch If you have kids, and dont have one of these, I would order one RIGHT NOW! They are So fun, and work really well. The boys at the party loved it, and my daughter played with it the whole next day! (its called the ultra stomp rocket) LEVEL 2: Shuttle Repair The boys wore kitchen gloves and had to screw big nuts and bolts together underwater to give them the feel of big gloves in space! LEVEL 3: Collect Moon Rocks I scattered moon rocks all around the yard (kind of like an egg hunt) and let them search for them and add them to their official moon rock pouch. again, loving iron ons and canvas bags from the craft store. The rocks were quite a process. We started by spraying them green, but they were too transparent, so then we primed them and then put 2 more coats of green. In the end, they were EXACTLY what I was going for and the boys LOVED them! LEVEL 4: Tranquilize Aliens OK, we had to throw this in for the boys. We put these laminated cutouts of aliens on the wall and let the boys use a variety of nerf shooters to get them. (aliens thanks to the cricut...again) LEVEL 5: Antigravity Balance it wouldnt be a space party without a little balancing (jumping) on an air mattress. We let them balance a bouncy ball on a plate as they walked across. And then they basically just played on it! UNIFORMS: Rob wore painters coveralls that worked out great...dont try to iron directly on to it, because it melts! So I ironed the nasa symbol and the "trainer rex" label on to paper and pinned them on. I think the boys loved their shirts. I used the nasa symbol and then added the "astronaut training part" to it. the part they loved the best was their names on the back! Space Ranger ROBBIE! FOOD: Well, what can I say...Nasa waters, Mars Mud, Jupiter Jello, and PLANET PIZZA! I went kind of easy on food! CAKE: I couldnt get the idea out of my head...a hanging moon cake! So, I went to home depot, got some hardware, and then Rob and I worked on it the night before...so here it is! The boys thought it was pretty cool that the CAKE was hanging over the table! We let Robbie blow out the candles while it was still hanging... and Rob even cut all the pieces for the boys while it was still hanging! FAVORS: More iron ons! I personalized the bags just like their shirts. They started with Astronaut Ice Cream, Moon Sand, and water... but by the time the boys left they were stuffed full with moon rock bags, kitchen gloves, nuts and bolts, extra food (for the boys who didnt finish) and of course a space ship cookie. We also presented them with their Certificates of Completion, that told them thank you for coming and being part of our launch crew!
