These are a few of my new feathered friends that will be flying in for the Tarte Boutique Flea Market this Saturday! Even though it isn't "black tie", a few of them insisted on wearing a top hat for the occasion. They are dying to meet you! I know it's my imagination, but they seem to be staring at me. For some reason, I keep thinking of Tippi Hedren and Alfred Hitchcock ... hmmm. More tomorrow. M.
and so little time! Funky Junk Sister Antique Flea Market is this weekend!!! It seemed so far off and all of the sudden it's almost here!!...
Halloween is only one week away and it will soon be time to howl! Today's surprise -- a frightening, black owl ! I know you guys must think that I'm kidding when I say that I don't remember what I placed inside each box. I really don't remember. I made this in April and quite frankly, sometimes I can't remember what I did yesterday - much less last April. So I'm having just as much fun rediscovering the little surprises each day. I think the inability to remember is directly correlated to the crazy-busy fall I have had. For example, I just got home from spending the day at the Tarte Halloween Spectacular in Oregon City. I accompanied Madame Zadora, Palm Reader, to the event. Madame "Z" entertained everyone with her palm reading expertise and what fun it was! Tomorrow, I will post some pictures of the divine Madame and the many and assorted lovelies that were for sale at the Land of Tarte today. I even got a picture of the Queen of Tarte herself sporting that famous pink, fluffy wig! And for those of you that would like to learn the secrets of some of the artists that you follow in blogland, you can sign-up for the Artist Class that is an online project classroom with a variety of projects and a variety of artists. It will take place over 4 weeks, on a members-only blog. Daily posts will include instructions for one dozen individual projects plus additional, bonus down loads, tips and techniques. Students receive quality in quantity: beautiful projects and great information designed to get creative juices flowing, introduce new skills, and resolve last minute gift quandaries. I was asked to submit one of the projects! So check it out by clicking on the black box above this post. The link will take you to the Artist Class site and you can read more. AND the best part is ... if you enter my code, "vintagetrifles", you will receive $10.00 off the class fee!!! My project is this "Celebration Cake"! You too can make this unique piece and many others by enrolling today! I think it is time to visit with my sweetie and give both he and Miss Zoe a little attention. Tomorrow: Halloween Countdown, Day 7 and pics of Madame Zadora, the Queen of Tarte and merriment in the Land of Tarte! I promise you will be amazed and amused! M. P.S. Don't forget the upcoming Holiday Treasures Show, November 6 & 7 at Molly Mo's in Sublimity. Diane and I have been putting together something wonderful to get you ready for the holidays. Check my sidebar for more info!

It only makes sense that if it takes a week to set up for a show -- it takes a week to undo it. It indeed took a week. What have I learned from this experience? I have to find a different venue for my next Vintage Halloween Bootique. We knew after last year's event that we might be able to have it in our home one more year, but after that -- probably somewhere else. We were right. It has gotten too big, too much stuff to relocate and too much stuff to display! And ... above everything else ... too much disruption in our everyday lives. My husband is such a sweetie and just goes with the flow. He even admitted that it is time to "move the Bootique"! So the search is on for a new venue. Here are some pictures of the Bootique just before we opened our doors on Friday evening. It was a smashing success and certainly made the blood, sweat and tears worthwhile! So here you go ... PRESTO .... A variety of small "bites", sweets, and what's a party without "spirits of the vine" and ... lots of ghoulfriends??? CHANGO ! Back to normal ... a-gain. If you are asking yourself, "Was it worth it?" Yes, it was. I would like to thank everyone who attended. It was fun, crazy busy and rewarding to see the little "Bootique" image in my head come to life. I would also like to thank all my wonderful friends that helped in one way or another: Ellen (my sis), Rosa, Sarah, Diane, Carly, Betty, and of course, Elf Patty. Without these women and my husband, it wouldn't have been possible. I owe you all BIG! I would also like to thank my nephew, Matt and great-nephew, Hayden for providing the muscle to move all the furniture. (Tip: you can get lots done by bribing with warm brownies!) Coming up ... Holiday Treasures Show, November 11th & 12th. Mark your Calendar! M.
My Halloween BOOtique was so much fun! Thank you to EVERYONE who helped make it happen. It DOES take a village and then some. Most of all, a big THANK YOU to all of you who come out and support this little passion of mine that has grown into a bigger deal than I ever imagined! Here are a few pictures. The "Ghosty Girls" dropped in to welcome everyone. Until next year, Happy Halloween! Oh yeah, don't forget to mark your calendars for the Holiday Treasures show, hosted by me and Molly Mo's. Thursday, November 21, 5-8 pm Early Buying, $5.00 Friday, November 22, 2-8 pm Free Admission 440 NE Cherry Street, Sublimity, Oregon It's time to switch over the workroom! Stow away the black glitter and bring out the mica flake! In the meantime, enjoy a wonderful fall season. M.
No matter how organized I am, no matter how much planning and how many notes are made ... I just never seem to get as much done as I would like to. I feel like I'm always racing the clock to see how much I can accomplish before the end of the day. The thing that really gets me is that I know I'm getting slower. It's not my imagination - I'm just not doing as much as fast. This weekend I cleaned-up my workroom and got ready to start on ... Vintage Halloween !!! October 2nd and my Vintage Halloween Bootique will be here before I know it! Mark your calendar and keep checking back for updates. If you would like to receive a postcard, e-mail me and I will place you on the list. I have begun collecting lots and lots of interesting, unusual, and whimsical goodies. On top of all of that, I will be making many, many of my Halloween creations. So as one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles used to say ..... Clock's tickin', Dude! M.

A few weeks ago I was invited to place some of my Halloween collection in a delightful and interesting little store in the Pearl District in NW Portland - Thea's Interiors on NW Glisan. It is an eclectic mix of antiques, vintage finds and a variety of unique, original pieces. Wonderful! Not only wonderful - it's BOOtiful! (Sorry, couldn't resist.) A couple weeks ago, my husband and I met our friends Betty and Steve for lunch. Before lunch, we visited Thea's to see this special place for ourselves. We weren't disappointed. What a little treasure trove! Here are a few pictures of some of my creations in Thea's. I seemed to have a thing for fabulous shoes this fall! A few more little creations to get you into the Halloween spirit! More shoes! Aren't those great? They are the real thing - a must see and must have. Sparkly wands to cast a spell ... and a few pics of the family - just for laughs! Take some time and visit Thea's - it is frightfully fabulous! M. Store info on the left.
Yes, WOW about the only word I can use describe my Halloween Bootique! Your response was phenomenal. It always stuns me to see the images in my head come to life. And ... it more than stuns me to see everyone enjoy it as much as I do. I appreciate the fact that you like what I love to create. Your validation means the world to me. Thank you all. So here are a few pictures taken on Friday night. A big THANK YOU to Sarah of Roost Reimagined for grabbing my camera and getting some last minute pictures. I was so shocked by the line of people waiting to come in that I forgot everything and stood there like a deer in headlights! Believe me I wasn't being aloof. I was in SHOCK! "Mr. Ed" greeted everyone at the door. He proved that you can glitter just about anything. These gals "dropped in" and made the show. Once I saw this idea on Pintrest, I knew I had to make them for the tall ceiling of the Carriage House. They certainly got every one's attention! Skelly and his Mrs. Pumpkins and more pumpkins ... all sizes and shapes. I know that all the many hours of hard work were worth it, but those of you that do this type of event all know that it takes a village to make it happen. I want to thank everyone who helped make this not-so-little soiree possible. Elf Patty, aka Sparkle... our little, sweet Mama-to-be, Sarah... my junkin' buddy, Diane... my sis, Ellen, who is always here when I need her ... and all the others I didn't get pics of : Marilyn, Deborah, Betty, Terri, and last, but certainly not least, my sweet hubby Mark. Couldn't have done this without him. He jumped in with both feet this year. Not only that, he "hung" the witches for me! My hero. Now that this is behind me, I am starting on Christmas and preparing for the Holiday Treasures 2012 Show co-hosted by me and Diane of Molly Mo's! See the details below and check back for sneak peeks! Happy Halloween! M.

and so little time! Funky Junk Sister Antique Flea Market is this weekend!!! It seemed so far off and all of the sudden it's almost here!!! Of course I've been busy making new things. Don't want to get in a rut - right? I'm sure you are wondering what the heck these things are. Well, of course there is a story... A few years ago, a bride left a hanger with a cardboard bodice shape on it in the dressing room where I work. I thought what a great way to hang a special garment! I waited several weeks to see if anyone would call to retrieve it. Never happened, so, if you know me very well you would know that I had the wheels turning from the moment I saw it! The shape was made from lightweight cardboard and must have come from a dry cleaners. I needed something to display a vintage prom dress and this worked perfectly! Again, if you know me very well, I just couldn't leave it as I found it. I had to make it look special. I covered it with old newpaper to give it my look. I displayed it at a show and it was a hot item of interest. Everyone wanted to buy it. I finally caved and let it go thinking that I could get another shape at any dry cleaners that cleaned special gowns. Well, I was so disappointed when I wasn't able to find replacements. That was the end of that. Move on and get over it. I didn't get over it. Last week, I knew I would need something to display some vintage pieces I'm taking to Funky Junk Sisters and that silly, paper-covered, bodice-on-a-wire-hanger seemed like the perfect thing. I went to work and created a pattern working from my own mannequin. And voila! I love them. Even added some mother of pearl buttons as a fastener on the back. I love it when an idea comes together. More new things soon! Get ready for some stinkin' cute dog beds! M.
