This is a fabulous antique book which I have made into a beautiful hollow book for you. The covers are so lovely and characterful - I just had to give it a new lease of life! This fantastic part-leather volume has been carefully carved to create a hollow lined with coordinated papers. This will make a beautiful ornament and handy storage box for tiny things. Why nor fill it with surprises for an alternative gift? Perfect for document or passport storage or cash stuffing. The book measures approximately 27.5 cm x 19.5 cm x 5 cm, with an interior of approximately 21.5 cm x 12.5 cm x 4 cm. As with all vintage/antique items, this may show signs of wear such as scratches, creases etc... All these just add to the character and the authenticity of the piece.

A white sports jersey-type jumper with Taz and Santa design - I always think the US does the best Xmas jumpers! I avoid using the labelled size as, often with vintage clothing, the sizes come out a lot smaller. Sizing is given as a rough guide - please check measurements to make sure you’re happy before purchasing. This will be a custom order! This is a Shrine to St Dymphna the Patron Saint of victims of anxiety, depression and other nervous disorders. Often referred to as a pocket shrine, travel shrine, portable shrine, travel altar or prayer tin. A traditional nicho is frequently used as an extension of a family altar, venerating a favorite saint, the Virgin of Guadalupe or a loved one who has passed on. Similar to a shadow-box, nichos may combine elements of Catholicism, indigenous beliefs, and contemporary culture. I re-purpose and alter Altoid tins,cigar boxes, etc., combining mixed-media and assemblage. Crafted from Altoid tins and assortments of vintage; holy cards, holy medals, scapulars, rosary parts, miniature holy statues, sequins, crystal embellishments, fabric and ribbon and cultural elements. Your shrine will be personalized to suit your personal veneration or memory. I choose relevant, available sacramentals and treasures or can add your personal mementos. A chance visit to our local op-shop the other day garnered a lovely bundle of pre-loved linen treasures and one rather loved mini quilt... Six pretty doilies for $1 each. Five hand embroidered and one machine stitched... I had a few ideas for bringing the doilies to life again, but one in particular stood out immediately as perfect for 'framing' a sweet little tea pot motif I'm working on for the April Stitchery Club. Here's a sneak peek at that design. I chose threads that blended with the ones already used in the doily embroidery, and some a little deeper in colour so the completed motif would stand out... Still a few little embellishments to add, but it's coming along beautifully... I'll show you how this 'remade' doily will be used next week. Did you notice the country style appliqued mini quilt with all the chooks?! At just $1.50 it made me a little sad... ...because I know how much time and effort goes into making these projects, so my old/new chicken quilt is going to be cherished in the Elefantz home! These chooks sure make Mr E and I laugh as they run around the centre of the table at breakfast... But the vintage finds did not stop there... Do you browse Ebay? Mr E does, I don't. Unless I am after something very specific. Which is what happened recently. You see I'm planning a few winter makeover projects (if winter ever arrives because we're still sweltering in record temperatures here in the tropics) and something that's been top of my list for a few years now is a small suitcase that can be re-made as a sewing case. It occurred to me that an old vanity case (beauty case) would be perfect so I typed in 'vanity case' on Ebay and within seconds I had five to choose from. One stood out from the rest, so I placed my $20 bid and prepared to sit and wait out the 9 remaining days of the auction, fully expecting to be swamped by collectors with more money than I could afford. But nobody made a bid against me! So look what lives at my house now... It's more than 50 years old and smells a bit musty, but is in excellent condition... As I am still a novice in restoration and the makeover of delicate old things I asked my talented friend Julie from My Threadbear Life for advice on how best to treat my vintage treasure. She is the queen of this craft and I often find myself on a Friday night scrolling through her blog to see the beauty she so perfectly creates. It's inspiring and good for the soul. I have gleaned from her sage advice and now have a little more confidence in the correct way to clean the case, which I hope to make a start on after Easter. Might also begin sketching some ideas for how I'd like to re-create this as a sewing case in the future.. I did find a few makeover inspirations by searching on Pinterest. Here's a few that tickled my fancy. THIS shabby chic style has a tutorial... THIS one is sooooo pretty.... And what about THIS one for a bit of glam? So many lovelies to find inspiration in, but I have only one little case to play with. Well, I had better do it right because I think this will take a lot of time and creativity...and I'm really looking forward to the challenge.
