When I first began sewing, I saw patterns as silver fitting bullets. Unlike the ready-to-wear garments that gave me conniptions, from their gaping waistlines to buckling busts, sewing patterns were…

I have a Eldredge treadle. It was gifted to me in 09 after my bf's grandmother passed. It has sat around all these years and I've finally overcome my fear and decided to restore the treadle.

I spent the whole Day yesterday sewing!! I loved it. I am trying to get my squares done for "Clothesline Club". We are doing a block exchange and I had the hardest time deciding on my block. Some of the girls did theirs on their sewing machines and some did hand applique. I just couldn't decide. So I went with a little of both. I will share with you later what my block is... But it was the best day to just get to sew all day! I put "Murder She Wrote" in the DVD and had lots of tea! And Sewed and Sewed! Hope you had a great day too!!

Justin's Comet was started while at a Dear Jane get together in Oakville, Ontario. I handpieced this block and finished it on vacation. This is the block that Nancy challenged us to do by using a stripe. I only had a boring stripe, so when I found this striped FQ with fancy paisley's I wondered if it would work. I couldn't quite get 8 exact repeats, but did get two sets of four identical pieces. It took me longer to cut these diamonds than to sew the block together :-). I am pleased with the way it turned out. Pressing the back trying to follow Linda Franz's instructions :-): We actually got to meet Linda Franz at the gathering and had a great time getting to know her! She gave each of us two sample pieces of Inklingo printed on two different colours of batik fabrics. While on vacation, I made this grandmother's flower garden using all the purple hexagons and one of the light blue ones. What fun and how easy is this! Of course it was all printed out on the fabric for me by Linda LOL...now to try out actually printing on fabric. I received a wonderful autographed copy of Inklingo for my birthday from my friends, Lynn and Amy and need to take some time to try the printing. Sure saves a lot of seam marking for hand piecing!! Linda also showed us how to press the seams at the back. Works slick! Thanks Linda! It was also great meeting Monkey in person!!

The illustrations are from the October 1942 issue of Woodworker magazine. I've seen pictures of treadles with wooden legs before and wondered why they hadn't got the standard iron legs. Now I know why - over-enthusiasm in the DIY department. Wooden legs were considered more modern and a way of increasing the value of the machine. I can't believe they could ever have been as stable or as long lasting as the original iron legs. Welcome to the latest follower, ok4now2000 - thank you for following!
