There are a couple of seed companies that still put "art" on the front of their seed packets; Botanical Interests & Renee's Garden for example. But for the most part, they have gone to photos, which I suppose is helpful to the gardener, but not nearly as much fun as those fantastic, even frameable, packets of the past! Seeds of Change has even gone to resealable plastic packets. I think it is a shame that a company that saves & distributes heirloom seeds doesn't use vintage-style art on their packets! My opinion of course. Here are some examples of seed packet art that I think is pretty, interesting, OR.... Flowers first. I absolutely LOVE those "Fairy Pansies"! Next we have the veggies. Here, I chose four examples from the same seed company. I think it is a stylish design that shows the subject off well. Here are some packets that incorporate comely young women in the design. These are sure to catch the farmer's eye! And then... Hmmm. Did these folks eat one too many tomato, celery or radish? I'll never look at a tomato in quite the same way! LOL! So... what do you think? Do you long for the nostalgic seed packet art of days gone by? Or, are you one of those modern gardeners who like the seed tapes, plastic packets and garden kits with already chosen seeds and planting plans done for you? Whichever you are, I hope you keep those hands in the dirt and vintage seed packet ART in your heart! Green thumbs up! Chris

Leaving aside our unnaturally warm March week, this is the first really springlike weekend, and a long one at that with the commemoration of Patriot’s Day here in Massachusetts on Monday. Lots of things have popped up in the garden, though I suspect many plants never went to sleep during this warm winter. I’m not …

The chalkboard-painted backsplash in my kitchen( (which is really not a backsplash at all, a topic for another day), in a color called “peapod”, compelled me to find a few more spring green, pea pod accents for the room. A simple search uncovered one of John Derian’s decoupaged mini-trays, featuring two people dressed in pea …
My boyfriend and I are taking care of a stray cat we found wandering around the neighborhood. Yes, we are suckers for animals. Normally we wouldn't take another cat (we already have one and a half cats, one inside only and one only comes in to eat.) However, he was skin and bones and is just so sweet, loves to be held, and is always ready to cuddle. How could we resist? However, the little guy wouldn't stop sneezing so I brought him in to our local vet. He was diagnosed with a respiratory infection and sent home without meds stating that it was a virus and would heal itself. When he wasn't better three weeks later, the vet gave me some meds and some chewy treats for his immune system. However, it has been another 5 days and he's not that much better. Is anyone out there familiar with this illness or had something similar with a cat? Could it be something else? Do cats get allergies? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
