Amy Tan's new Signature Series book is a smashing success! Every page is eye candy and filled with inspiration from corner to corner. I had the opportunity to include a layout and a "PaigeBook" in Amy's book. I used only supplies from Amy's Ready Set Go line, naturally! HOME IS WHEREVER YOU 3 ARE Journaling says: No matter where we are in the world, whether near or far, as long as I am surrounded by my family, that is where I call "home." It's true - "home is where the heart is" and there's nowhere else I'd rather be! I love you all! How to: Start with a cream floral background. Trim squares from patterned papers, trim them into triangles, then cascade them down the top of the layout; stitch a line through each row using a matching color of thread. Tear a house page from a Daybook, back the heart and door with patterned paper and a "love" die cut, and hand stitch around the heart die cut with yellow floss. Place the house on the bottom of the page and add a photo on either side. Create a title above the photos, embellish with stickers, an accordion paper flower, journaling spot, and more. Supplies: Cardstock, patterned paper, stickers (ampersand, arrows, hearts, houses, letters, number), accordion paper flower, die cuts (arrow, flower, sentiment), date stamp, pen, adhesive: American Crafts; Floss: DMC; Ink: StazOn; Square punch: Fiskars; Sewing machine: Brother; Thread: Coats & Clark ********************************************************************** REMEMBER & SHARE THE LOVE PAIGEBOOK DAYBOOK This is a 5x7" handmade book with a copic style binding so it lays nice and flat when opened. Every signature is made with Ready Set Go patterned papers and colorful matching cardstock. I incorporated charms, knick-knacks, doodads, and Ready Set Go matte puffy stickers turned into charms into the binding. The front is embellished with a bunch of Ready Set Go stickers and embellishments. I stuck these on with major super glue to ensure they'll stay put forever and a day. I have a tendency to make books and not fill them up with anything, but perhaps I can use this book for a form of "project life" or make my own version of a "smash" book. Check out these projects and DOZENS more in Amy's book! Since I want to be Amy when I grow up, maybe one of these years I can have a Signature Series book :) A girl can dream right?!
My Mother, unfortunately the early photos aren't dated, but I think the one on the left is circa 1930, the middle 1946-1948. I imagine the center photo was taken at Easter since she is wearing a corsage, they did that back then and there are a number of EAster photos. The other thing is to look at the lovely suit she is wearing. I am sure that she sewed it. My mother was an incredible seamstress and made all my clothes when I was growing up. She tailored sports jackets for my Dad, what a talent she had, I did not inherit her love of sewing!! I used the the beautiful Glitz Love Games for this LO. I love the poppy red in these papers. I made the red poppies, see my poppy tut, link on my sidebar. The wonderful swirly leaves are cut with a Heartfelt Creations/Spellbinders die. The black swirls are stamped images. They are Inkadinkadoo and I got them at Michaels. I like them, I bet you will see them again! Oh the Dusty Attic chipboard colum and pot with the ferns. They are so lovely and add the perfect touch fo class to a layout. I painted the column first with a whitewash of acrylic antique white. Then I used biscotti perfect pearls to paint inside the column and the accents on the column. The pot was painted first with a good coat of biscotti perfect pearls. After that dried I took a very find paintbrush and lightly painted random lines with capuccino perfect pearls to imitate marbling. After that dried I added a coat of Crackle Accents which i discovered does not stick very well to perfect pearls so I painted over it all with Diamond Glaze and it seems to be holding just fine. I also added some gold perfect pearls to accentuate the design on the pot. Ther fern leaves are also Dusty Attic and they have been coated with Olive Vine Glimmer Mist. Thanks for visiting my blog and I hope all your days are stellar!!
January challenge - sketch .
Every month Maja Design has this really cool Mood Board Challenge going....it's a really fun and inspirational board that suggests colors, text, embellishments and moods. This months mood board was made to work with the Vintage Summer Basics collection but there are many other Maja Design papers that work really well with the mood board as well. I just love using the mood board to inspire a page. I loved the feminine pretty photos in the mood board and I chose a number of the words to use on my page like 'lace', 'pearls', 'shades of misty rose', 'pale peach', 'beauty', 'flowers' and 'shimmer'. And what a beautiful poem, just the thing to put you in the mood for scrapping! Here is the mood board for February if you want to play along (there is a beautiful Maja collection up for grabs for the winner!! See challenge rules at this link Maja February Mood Board Challenge) I wanted to get a nice soft feminine effect on the page so I started out with 2 layers of patterned papers from the Maja Design collection called 'Vintage Summer Basics' (1908-bs, 1921, 1925) and some torn strips from the 6x6 paper pad from the same collection. Although I had these pretty new papers to work with I wanted to be practical and use some of my older stash as well. I have all these lovely rub-on's that I've been hoarding from my days on the Daisy D's design team and I figured I will eventually have to stop hoarding and use them right? lol. The 'Life is Good' title is from one of the Daisy D's rub-on sheets and the white lace design is a rub-on from another Daisy D's rub-on sheet I had. I first did a little bit of inking with a make-up sponge and some Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet Distress Ink, I think it's the perfect color to match the pinks in the Maja collection. This also allowed the white lace rub-on to show up better on the patterned paper. Here are more close-ups of the page.... Now I have to let you know that I've had a number of people ask how I get the paper to pull down when I do those little peek-a-boo edges. Sometimes it's just easier to do a little video tutorial than to explain it. So I got my oldest daughter to hold the camera while I recorded a little piece for you to see how I do it. I have to appologize in advance about the sound quality on this video piece, my daughter taped it with my phone camera and I'm thinking she may have had her hand over the speaker while taping some parts. But I think you'll still see how easy it is to do when you watch the clip.... Here is another close-up of one of the pulled back paper edges. The key for sure is that you want to use a nice heavy weight paper that can take the paper manipulation...and you can find that in the Maja Design papers, they are a great quality paper! And finally I wanted to mention the lovely chipboard pieces I used on the this page. The loopy sweet vine you see on my page edges is a new one from Dusty Attic called 'Swirly Vines #3' and the floral chippie that I used to frame my photo is one called 'Floral Corners' that I cut up so that it would wrap around the photo. Below are a couple of steps is did in making up the frame design. The actual first step is to paint your chipboard white and then tint the leafy areas with some green chalk ink. Then you want to glue your chipboard pieces to your layout. Continue with the steps below... I like to fill in the petal areas with a bit of Glossy Accents after the Stickles dry just because I find the Stickles dry fairly flat and I love the thick glossy look they have when they are wet. Adding the Glossy accents keeps that glossy thick look to the petals. I hope these tips and tutorials have helped! If you every have any questions and would like to see a demonstration of techniques I use on my pages just leave a comment and ask....I'll see what I can do about getting tutorials posted. And if you would like to play along this month in the Maja February Mood Board Challenge you can find the rules for the challenge there as well (the main rules being that you please resize your photos to 600x600 pi and that you not put on any watermarks for the challenge page entry....also that you must use some Maja Design papers to enter the challenge). We had loads of entries last month and look forward to seeing your creations this month as well!
Hello Crafty Friends, I'm popping in with a Step By Step Photo Tutorial and a Video Tutorial for my latest Layout using the gorgeous Gypsy Rose Collection. Step Two - Spritz the Pink Misting Spray on top of the inverted
I have a fun project to share with you today! I hope this post inspires you to make some pretty vintage paper flowers to use on your craft projects. I had so much fun making these and if I didn't have a job and chores, I would have made many more! They are time consuming, but easy. I have seen these made before by many stampers and I've been wanting to make some and put my personal twist on them. I really would like to make some Fall colored ones next...with glitter...hmmmm... Here is a picture of the finished flowers,...
I' not good at sewing but I can't imagine scrapping without my sewing machine - adding a bit of stiching here and there makes your work look completley different. "Gent" is a layout which shows what I mean perfectly. This time I also went wild with sticky back canvas, decorated with patterns transfered from the background papers - I made some embellies with it and I really liked the effect. The background papers were inked and misted to show the pretty floral pattern and my final touch were rub-ons and found objects coresponding with the feeling of male elegance. "Gent" is a good marriage of Grunge and Vintage - and I hope you like my idea :) duża fotka - big photo Mam nadzieję, że podoba się wam mój eksperyment - zachęcam z całego serca do własnych prób z płótnem i mediami i dodam, że już niebawem na blogu pojawi się kolejna porcja "płóciennych" prac - tym razem tworzonych z myślą o blogu Tattered Angles :) Tymczasem zapraszam na blog firmowy mojego ulubionego sklepu Scrapki.pl, gdzie znajdziecie więcej szczegółów mojej pracy i pełną listę produktów :) I hope you like my experiment - II'd love you give a try sticky back canvas and medias too! Soon I'll be publishing my next part of "canvas" creations, this time made for Tattered Angels. To see more detials and a full supply list, please visit Scrapki.pl blog - it is a great source of inspirtion :) A na zakończenie, chciałabym serdecznie zaprosić wszystkie duszę będące w zasięgu na wydarzenie, które spędza mi sen z powiek od ponad miesiąca, wysysa siły, ale też dostarcza wielu pozytywnych wrażeń: Już w niedzielę, 9 stycznia 2011 rusza 19 Finał WOŚP. Zagrajmy razem - do końca świata i jeden dzień dłużej :)
So my assignment with Bo Bunny this week was to create the layout sketch and create a layout to go with it as well. Well, I was a little nervous about it, I'm new to making sketches, but with a little trial an error I managed to put a sketch together. Usually I would make my page first and create a sketch from the page I made but I didn't want the other girls that were doing the assignment to have to wait on my sketch, so the sketch came first. The above l/o is the page I came up with using my sketch.. I wanted to go a little more monochromatic with this page so I went with some papers from the Bo Bunny Et Cetera collection and tried to stick to neutrals with just a hint of blush pink. I added just a little bit of Bo Bunny's Timepiece into it too (I love the 6x6 paper pads, I used the clock paper and cut out the clocks to use as embellishments....just added a little Stickles in Platinum color to dress them up a bit) I also added in a few pieces of my favourite chippies from Dusty Attic too! The Vintage Keys, the Chicken Wire (that's the last of my chicken wire in my stash! now I'm waiting on my next DT package...can't wait!) the corner flourish and title chippies are all from Dusty Attic. The larger blooms are handmade by simply gathering some pieces of lace. Here are a few close-ups of the page details.... NOTE: I used Tombow liquid adhesive (green & white bottle) to attach my pearl strand. I find this works beautifully for adding fussy strands to a page. All you do is use the fine tip end and draw out the design you would like your pearl strand to go in. Let the adhesive dry slightly, it becomes gummy/tacky. You can then lay your pearl strand onto the page over the line and it will stick without slipping! For the circle design I used the Crafters Workshop circle template and cut the circle design from one of the Bo Bunny patterned papers. I made marks for my brads and then added some kitchen twine twisted around the brades to create the above design. I used a corner stamp and key-hole rub-on from the Bo Bunny Timepiece colletion to dress up the corner of my layout. Supplies for this page: Patterned Paper: Et Cetera - Mail Room, Et Cetera, Symphony, Gabrielle - Cut Outs Cardstock: Tutu Dot 6x6 Paper Pads: Timepiece (clock face embellishments) Noteworthy: Et Cetera Stickers: Et Cetera Combo Stickers Rub-on's: Timepiece Trinkets: Gabrielle Stamps: Timepiece Buttons: Bo Bunny Buttons & Bling Blooms were handmade by gathering strips of lace. Chipboard pieces: Dusty Attic Designs Lace & Pearl trims are off the roll from local fabric store. Cheesecloth, twine, ink & Stickles. If you like the page design please feel free to use my sketch and give it a go! Here is the sketch for this page... If you use the sketch design, I'd love it if you drop me a link here in a comment so I can come have a peek! I'd love to see what you all do with it! And be sure to drop off a link to your page at the Bo Bunny Blog (by November 3rd) for a chance to win some yummy Bo Bunny goodies!! xx
It's another gorgeous palette to inspire you over at The Color Room! This weeks palette (#79) is a lovely combination of a soft rosey plum, a warm caramel, a dove grey and a hint of muted teal. Here is the inspiration for the palette.... I always love to challenge myself to see if I can find all the colors I need from my old stash and get the colors as close to the palette as I can (you should see me with my computer screen up and holding all my items against the screen! lol! It makes me happy to know that I'm using up product that I already have. I think I managed it! But I have to admit that I used new product in the Dusty Attic piece's I used (but at least I didn't go out and purchase anything new for this page! yay!) The basic rules of the Color Room is to use all the colors in the palette (only) and you can also use neutrals with it (like white, black or craft paper). This page is to represent one of the few date nights my dear husband and I manage every once in a while. We tend to do so much as a family but it really is nice to get out just the two of us sometimes. Here we were at a party for Steve's brother in downtown Toronto (the CN Tower was directly behind us in the photo but my BIL took the photo at the wrong angle). The food was crazy AWESOME!! .....here are a few close-ups of the page elements..... I used lots of Dusty Attic Chipboard on this page. I had a piece of the Skeleton Clock Face left over from another project I did and I split a piece of French Flourish in half to create the design above. For the above piece I added a little piece of the Dusty Attic Chicken Wire (one of my favourite pieces, it's so versatile) and below you can see a corner of the intricate new Sweat Pea Frame design from Dusty Attic. If you are looking for Dusty Attic products, just look to the right of my blog site, I've listed a bunch of the retailers there for your convenience. As for the rest of the supplies, I used some BasicGrey Kioshi (the mauvy background frame paper), The script paper and flourish paper are both Recollections (from Michaels), The teal paper is Tim Holtz, The lace, butterfly and ribbon bloom is Prima. Gems are Recollections. The chipboard alphas are Bo Bunny from the Et Cetera collection. If you want some tips on how to do the Verdigris Aged Patina that I added to the flourish and clock you can check out my tutorial by clicking on the words (or find it on the rightside column of my blog. Come join us in the challenges over at The Color Room, give the above palette a try and remember to post your layout in the gallery there, you might just get featured in next weeks newsletter!

Knus Jytte :)
Hi everyone! For this layout I wanted to use a bunch of the newest goodies I got from Dusty Attic. Did you know they now also have ama...
I'm really excited to show you all my first project with Maja Designs! Every first Tuesday of the month Maja puts out this cool challenge called the Mood Board Challenge. This is a board created by Jenny Grotherus our super talented design team coordinator filled with inspiration to help you create a beautiful page full of gorgeous color, texture and perhaps journal inspiration as well. Below is the mood board for January...I chose to use the 'shades of blue', 'warming browns', 'torn', 'some stitches', 'hand journaling', 'plaid' and 'crisp air' as my inspiration points. And I just loved the inspiration poem as well! It put me in mind of this photo I recently got of my two great nieces, riding these stone elephants....it's so true how children find such joy in simple things and how the world around us can move us to feel like children again. I used the beautiful and perfectly distressed Maja Designs collections called 'Life in the Country' and 'Vintage Summer Basics' to make up this page. I chose papers from these two collections but they also have a wonderful Vintage Winter collection that is filled with these pretty blues and browns. Here are some close-up's of the page showing some of the detail work.... The intricate chipboard flourish in the corner of the photo is another NEW Dusty Attic piece called Vine Corner and the flourish at the bottom is called Scroll #10. I'm always amazed at how incredibly detailed Dusty Attic gets with their chipboard! Supplies: Patterned Paper: Maja Designs, (Life in the Country 6x6 paper pad)(Vintage Summer Basics) Chipboard: Dusty Attic Designs (Vine Corner, Scroll #10) Flowers: Prima, Dusty Attic Alphabet stickers: Websters Pages Martha Stewart Edge/corner punches (Swirling Lace) I've already been asked by many of you where you can find these beautiful papers. They do have a Store Finder at their website, all you have to do is click the flag for your country and you'll get a list of vendors carrying the Maja products. I do have to say for those of us in North America the pickens are thin right now so my best advice would be to let your local scrapbook store know of your interest in these collections. I find most local stores are very interested in knowing what products people would like for them to bring in. I do believe there are a number of online stores in the other countries as well that would probably ship to North America as well. For more information on the Mood Board challenges and to see more layouts made by the design team with this months mood board you can check out todays blog post at the Maja blog :)

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is "Where or how do you come up with some of your ideas/page designs?" So I thought I would share with you all today what inspired me to come up with this page design I made with some of my favourite Maja Design papers from the Ska vi ta en Fika collection. This layout began from an inspiration photo I found on Pinterest. It was a photo of some crocheted blooms with some muslin fabric. Here is the photo.... I just love the look of the white blooms with the touch of soft green and the draped look of the fabric on the gingham material. I immediately started thinking about how I could imitated this look on a scrapbook page. My first thought was of Maja papers since there are so many wonderful fabric look pages to choose from and I know that the 'Fika' collection has some lovely gingham style papers. Here are the main papers I used for this project.... I used the 'Kladdkaka' paper as my gingham background and then cut the "Chaite" paper in a drape design on a diagonal (I was also cutting out the lavender blooms at the same time because I was just going with the green accent on this page. I used the green "Smulpaj m äpplen-bs" paper as matting for my photo just to add that little extra touch of apple green. To make the blooms I used the Spellbinders smallest die from the 'Rose Creations' dies, I cut out a whole bunch from simple white/cream cardstock and gave each of the petals a little crinkle. I finished each bloom with an adhesive pearl. I had a section of apple green trim in my stash (from a local dollar store - no name) that I used to add a bow to each floral cluster. I created a drape by first cutting the 'Chaite' paper in a curvey line, then moistening the edge with water and then creating the draped line with my finger tips. I felt that the draping wasn't as lush as I wanted it to look so I used the scrap pieces left of the 'Chaite' paper and cut out 3 crescents (giving them a little bit of a fold as well) and tucked them under each of the draped areas. To embellish around my photo, I cut two hearts, one from the 'Kladdkaka' paper and the other from a scrap piece of paper I had from the 'Life in the Country' collection called 'Kitchen Garden'. I matted the hearts with some plain white cardstock and trimmed with a scallop edge scissor. I also cut out a couple of clock designs from the new 'Vintage Autumn Basics' collection "No. XVI". The cameo is one I had in my stash from Websters Pages. I added a brocade design to the background paper to go with the 'fabric' theme using a Crafters Workshop stencil (Mini Damask) and some home-made texture paste. I added some flourish to the page with a Dusty Attic chipboard flourish (Corner Flourish #1) which I coated with Gesso and stamped with a Bo Bunny script stamp and finished with crackle varnish.
