On the first day of Christmas Beyond the Picket Fence gave to me...a swag with some rusticity. Did I not warn you the rhymes would be bad? Only so many words rhyme with me. Now, I have a confession to make, I have had a tough time coming up with Christmas ideas to share. I have some plans for some fun things, but they haven't happened yet. I have been working on the smaller. crafty things and the conclusion I have come to is that I am not really a "crafter". I like to think bigger--furniture, home decor that serves a purpose, wood and power tools. Coming up with smaller decor items is a challenge. I look and I play and I think and I put it down and come back to it. I am getting ready for a Christmas market and I need some of these smaller items to sell, and I use them in my holiday decor, I am just more comfortable with a sliding compound miter saw than I am with a glue gun. So with that confession made, here is my first project--a swag with some rustic elements. I started with some little tart tins that were shiny. I put them in vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, and salt. Within a day, the tins were rusty. A few of them did not have enough rust on them so I sprinkled some more salt on them which gave them a nice, crusty rust. And then they sat because I wasn't sure what to do with them. They are adorable as ornaments, but you all have seen that. I finally decided to paint some letters in them and use them in a little swag. I drilled holes in them to attach them to some jute twine. I also made some paper stars for these. I drew these on old book pages and sewed around them, erased the pencil and then cut them out and punched a hole in them. These were fun to make, you might see more of these. I used some fake greenery--I am not a big fan of fakes, but this stuff looks good. I laid it out and tied the top with jute. I also added a jute loop to hang it and big burlap "ribbon" knot. Simple and perfect for a Montana cabin. Now it is your turn to link up your Christmas ideas. This linky party will remain open through Christmas. I will be sharing it every day of my 12 Days of Christmas. There will be no 12 days of Christmas posts on Sundays or Wednesdays, I will share my regular Sunday Verses and linky party on those days. Please read the linky party rules, thanks! 12 Days of Christmas Linky Party Rules 1. Please link up only Christmas or other winter holiday (i.e. Hanukkah, Kwanzaa) ideas. 2. Please include my 12 Days of Christmas button on your blog or a link back to my blog. 3. Please visit each other's posts and comment. 4. No direct links to items you are selling. Thank you--have fun!

Just a few of my many tart tins. For the last year I have been purchasing vintage tart tins at estate sales. I have quite the collection. I am attracted to their shapes, textures and colors. I knew I wanted to recycle them and create something new from something vintage which if you follow my blog you know I love to do. The first thing I came up with was tart tin Christmas trees which I wrote about in an earlier blog, Tart Tins. You can read it here. But I still have lots of tart tins. So I searched my favorite idea site, Pinterest and discovered some cute ideas for tart tin ornaments. I have no idea if they will sell but I love how they turned out. Here's how I made them.First start with some vintage tart tins. I bought mine at local estate sales. Next I gathered some cute vintage items from my Christmas goodies stash. Vintage Light Bulbs My one really well organized area....my Christmas stash Wooden Ornaments I have bottle brush trees, old wooden ornaments, glass balls, flocked Santas, reindeer, bells, garland, scrabble letters and more. I think the tins look great with snow glitter. First I spray the tin with adhesive spray. I like to do this outside because the spray has a terrible odor. Then I sprinkle my glitter into the tin. I try to do 10 to 12 of these at a time to let them dry. After they dry I use a combination of hot glue and white glue to attach my decorations. I like the hot glue for a fast hold and the white glue for a longer lasting secure hold. I use a punch tool to put two holes in the top of the tins to put silver elastic cord through to hang the finished tins. This punch is an awesome little tool. I found some cheap round stickers at the local dollar store so I created some vintage graphics with them from Graphics Fairy which is a great site for vintage graphics. Here are some of the finished tins. I think these turned out awesome. If you don't have any tart tins you could use old cookie cutters as an alternative. If you try this please share your finished products with me as I'd love to see them. Happy Junkin. Remember, buy what you love.

Last Saturday and Sunday (March 10 & 11th), Staci and I had a successful weekend at the Spring Sugar Plum Bazaar. We worked very hard, before (adding new inventory) and during (setting up/sales) the Bazaar. I used the square app for the first time! Getting a new smart phone in order to be able to use the square to accept credit card sales was a great investment. Inspired by Spring, both Staci and I added many new items to our inventory of handmade goods. Creating a banner with my business name is one goal I finally accomplished: I took many pictures of our booth at the Spring Sugar Plum Bazaar. Most of the pictures on this blog posting are mine...Isa Creations. The last four photos are Staci's handmade items, including a closeup photo of one of my favorites (and favorites of many of our customers). Sugar Plum Bazaar was a great experience! We continue to learn from our fellow vendors and loved meeting new customers. I kept going downstairs (we were in the carriage house) to see Amy from The Pink Attic to add treasures to my "bag." I can honestly say that a portion of my profits were spent at the Pink Attic booth! Love my vintage treasures. With the Spring Sugar Plum Bazaar just around the corner -- March 10th & 11th at the Parkside Mansion on 1859 York Street, Denver ... I have been working on creating more small pin cushions. Last year, most of the small pin cushions I made using vintage embroidered linens had a small ceramic bowl as the base. I created a few more using the white ceramic base like these: In the last few months, I have been lucky to find a great assortment of vintage tart tins and jello molds at various estate sales. So, for the Spring Sugar Plum Bazaar I have created many small pin cushions using the vintage tart tins as the base. I am happy with the results: The last group are larger pin cushions. These ceramic bases were not purchased at estate sales but at one of my favorite stores, Anthropologie. I have not decided if I will sell these, or keep them for myself or give them away as gifts. I am looking forward to the Spring Sugar Plum Bazaar. To get more information, you can check it out on Facebook here.

I think I need to make a K.I.S.S. sign (keep it simple stupid), and hang it where I can see it ever single day. I frequently bring things home from thrift stores and auctions, even if I have no idea what I'm going to do with them, and usually it doesn't take long before an idea comes to me, but I've had 4 of these little vintage tins for over a year, and I don't know how many times I've
Debrina Pratt is an amazing fairy artist! one of the most whimsical soul in Fairy world art :) always copied never equalled ^_____^ I remember the sweetness I felt when I discovered her work! aaahing and oooooohing like a little fae child :) I had to send her some praise and I got her so sweet kindness back. She is someone absolutely adorable on top of being a great artist which sincerely doesn't ruin anything :-) I can only love artists who are pure golden heart fairies ;o) Debrina has lovely taste for colors it's also so elegant full of little girl reveries. Her art is one of a kind, very refined and it touches the soul sharing it's positive thinking! she takes us in her own little world. She reminds us to dare to dream:) This is why I decided to interview for you to be inspired! *first of all give me a brief bio of you, your art etc. Growing up in a family of artists my interest in art developed at a teeny weeny age. I've experimented with many different mediums and came to paper collage almost 3 years ago and my creative world has never been the same! 1)When did you begin Mixed media art and what drawn you to that kind of art? I played with mixed media since childhood but didn't take it too seriously until about 3 years ago when I discovered the world of collaged artist trading cards. I was intrigued and fascinated by them and have since created almost 400 cards! 2)Your artworks are full of sweetness, delicate colors and beautiful words that inspire positive thinking, can you share with us your philosophy of life? Thank you for the sweet words Helene! It seems as I'm getting older my philosphy changes at a rapid pace! LOL...Currently, my soul has been reminded that we are not the rulers we have a higher power that is much stronger than us. I think my art also reflects my appreciation/search for simplicity, purity, and gentle hearts. 3)You often work with vintage children pictures is to talk about your inner fae child ? to share your love for Children/childhood? Children fairies are a common theme in my work due to the fact I've never truly grown up! The grown up world does not fit me. I want to live in a world of pink lollipop trees and little bunnies hopping about where hearts are pure and your inner child can roam freely. 4) You do a lot of different things: boxes, cards,3D artworks, booklets, jewels etc. what are the things you prefer to create? I LOVE creating teeny tiny anything but especially books and playsets. 5)Tell me about the great things and drawbacks about your artist life? The greatest thing about being a full time artist is all the wonderful people I have met along this journey and it fascinates me to see how art can connect people, change lives, and speak to complete strangers! As for drawbacks, once art became my job there have been moments where creating has felt like a job but I try to stay far, faraway from those feelings. 6)I have seen a lot of people trying to imitate your style ,what do you say to those people? what is your kind advice to them? Well, this kind of goes back to the drawbacks of being a full time artist. Once an artists puts their work "out there" it does open the door to this kind of thing..especially if they are successful. Seems some people want to do what makes money and if that means robbing another artist's soul then sadly some do not care. I do realize it may take some time to develop as an artist and get into that cozy little spot of creating where the art is all yours but it can be disheartening waiting for some to reach that spot. 7)You're working on small type of artworks, what is your next challenge?what are your plans artwise? PAINTING!!! That has been a personal challenge of mine for years and I have never really devoted the time to cradle that medium but something has been pulling me to play with paints! I mean go crazy!!! There's so many things I want to do that I have found plans drive me nutty and procrastination has a way of making me feel like an art school dropout so currently I'm planning to not have concrete plans as far as what I want to create and to take things as they come and let things develop naturally. 8)Lots of artists do video blogs, will you try this one day?will I have this opportunity to see you at youtube too? Video blogs! EEK!!! Does that answer your question? LOL... 9)what is your motto? Nurture your inner child and eat cupcakes if you want to...quite simple! 10)what is the art supplies you can't live without? SPARKLING Swarovski rhinestones, lots and lots of glitter, and my newfound love vintage fabrics and trims! 11)Tell me about all the little things that make you happy? My daughter's laugh attacks, baby smiles, giggles, pink cupcakes, little fairies dancing about the garden, music that touches the soul, feeling, seeing, things that go jingle, things that sparkle, Hello Kitty, the box of new crayons, watching people dance, kindergarten classes at play, imagination, yummy pink feathered Christmas trees (as seen in Michael's a week ago!) 12) Is music or books an inspiration to your art? I would image music and books do provide inpiration but perhaps it's more indirect than some other things that inspire me. I have found much inspiration from pictures in books of Japanese Harajuku girls who make their own clothing and and honor individuality in their dress. Google harajuku if you've never heard of it! It should bring smiles! you can admire debrina's whimsical work at flick Here and buy some of her artwork : Here
