I've been a busy little bee this past month as I finally launched my own little Vintage Instagram Shop called Top Of The Town Vintage! The first collection titled "Cavilleri Collection" launched the Wednesday just gone and metaphorically speaking, it flew off the shelves with only 3 pieces left, waiting to be snapped up by a fellow vintage lover. I am completely stunned and little humbled by the reaction in all honesty. Top Of The Town Vintage is a real passion project for me, something I've been mulling over for months now and am genuinely doing simply for the love of it. Truth be told in hindsight I'm not exactly sure what my expectations were in terms of success, all I knew was that it was a project I've been enthusiastically working at and that I was nervous as hell to announce it! With this being a secret little idea I've been working on for quite some time now, you might say- as cliche as this sounds- it's become my little baby and so I guess the nerves were understandable, putting something you truly care for out there for the world to see is ever so slightly daunting. But with the first collection launched and I couldn't have asked for a better outcome, so I guess I can take a deep breath.... And move on to the next collection. Yikes! I adore my job and I feel incredibly look to do what I do for a career but with work life always so busy and as I often feel like I fly from week to week, its hard for me to sometimes sit back and enjoy it in the way I would like to. Top Of The Town Vintage was a way to let off some steam, go back to basics and do something I truly love away from blogging. As I'm sure you're all well aware by now vintage is and always has been a long term love of mine. Whether it's true or reproduction, vintage is such a huge part of my style DNA (I really hope that doesn't sound pretentious) and shopping vintage has become second nature to me- I'm forever keeping my beady eyes out for great finds in thrift stores, charity shops and vintage fairs, old habits due hard. One of the most frustrating parts about being a blog and wearing vintage is that I than can't really share the pieces with my audience, they are one off, unique finds and although that's the sheer beauty of vintage, it also means no one else can have it... A little counter productive when you're job effectively entails sharing your wardrobe with others. Yes of course it's all about drawing inspiration rather than creating a carbon copy of my outfit but it would be nice to be able give those complimenting my outfits and supporting my blog a helping hand on the vintage shopping front. I guess you could say this was where the idea for Top Of The Town Vintage first came to be! I wanted to share my eye for spying amazing vintage pieces and I wanted to do so in carefully curated collections inspired by people, places, films and songs of eras gone by! It's been incredibly cathartic going back to the drawing board and revisit all my old inspirations in order to figure out collections and themes. The past few months have been spent going back over iconic outfits seen on the likes of Jane Birkin, Marianne Faithfull, Francoise Hardy, George Harrison... the list goes on and in doing so I actually feel like I've been able to fallen back in love with the people who have had such a huge influence on my own personal style. I able to adore vintage fashion through new eyes and learn to appreciate it all over again! Photographs and films from the sixties and seventies I'd once studied so carefully as a teenager, I am now able to immerse myself once more... I even watched Breakfast At Tiffany's for the first time in forever recently and found myself feeling truly inspired all over again. This is a film ordinarily I'd take for guaranteed having watched it countless times and subsequently deem as an "obvious choice" but revisiting it after such a long time made me remember why I loved it so dearly and why it means so much to both myself and others! Oddly enough Top Of The Town Vintage has become the catalyst I never knew I needed to fall back in love with style.... and not just any style, my own personal style! It's been a reason to get inspired once again and a pleasant reminder of who I am, what I love, where my passions are, why I adore fashion and lastly... That I really, really, really should have been alive in 1965. The second Top Of The Town Vintage collection will launch in a fortnight. Hey guys, welcome to 2021. Hope it's treating you well! This year is off to an exciting start because after ONE WHOLE YEAR (how?) we have finally completed our vintage camper remodel. For a little background - we bought this camper in 2019 for $600 with the plan to maybe turn it into a photo booth, maybe just a camper? Honestly we didn't think that we would even have time to touch it in 2020 because we were so busy with our photo booth business - Lamphouse Photo Co. WELP. With all events and weddings canceled in March 2020 we started work on our 1968 Play Mor 140. AND! We documented the entire process on our YouTube channel: Trailer Trash to Treasure Which, (woo-hoo) just passed 1k subscribers! We worked on the camper every week and finished it almost exactly a year from when we started. Here's the before tour: First the exterior. Oof. Poor guy had been given the rattle can mossy oak treatment and it was doing his cute shape NO favors. Next up, the "kitchen" BIG USE OF QUOTATION MARKS THERE ; ) What's there to say, it was basically gone. Disintegrated. Like the little scalloped edge on the cabinet though so style points for that I guess. Here's the dinette that would fold down into a bed: The other ~bed~ Would you sleep there? So we got to work with the help of my dad, Dave and mom, Connie and demolished the interior first: We then took it down to the frame, rebuilt the walls, ceiling, stripped the skin and repainted the exterior and ta-da, here's the final product: The kitchen after: I think the kitchen might be my favorite part of the camper. We installed a new faucet, built upper and lower cabinets, added a water pump and water system and new hardware of course. Next up, the front "dinette" We ended up opting for storage and turned the dinette into a permanent couch/bed. We're tent campers and we usually eat outside on a picnic table so we didn't think we would spend the time to convert it back and forth every day from a dinette to a bed. And finally, the bedroom: Did I say the kitchen was my favorite? Maybe this is? Idk, I love it all. Simon is a big fan of the big, fluffy bed: The bed converts back into a couch area during the day to add a tiny amount of floor space, access to under the bed storage, and a nice seating area for meals or relaxing. If you want to see how we rebuilt, repainted, re-everything'd this whole camper from the very beginning please head over to our YouTube channel Trailer Trash to Treasure and click the 'Start From the Beginning Playlist' We have another awesome project starting in a few weeks so hit that subscribe button and follow along on our next adventure! Until then, Keep Smiling! What is in your closet? The number of clothing we have today is massive compared to the limited wardrobes in the 1940s. With smaller incomes, higher quality clothing, less variety of clothing, and more home sewing skills, the pre-fast fashion years were one of careful planning and dedication to wearing clothes out completely. So, what

Not an original idea, but a great one. Lots of lovely bloggers, including Wendy at The Vintage Pattern Files, post free knitting and sewing patterns. They are usually posted on a Friday, so who am I to argue? Here's my first free pattern for you: This was one of the first successful vintage jumpers I completed, back in 2004 (10 years ago already). I was seriously pleased with it. I didn't know much about tension then, and don't even think I tested it. The yarn I used was from The Handweavers Studio when it was still near me in Walthamstow. A soft merino, it came on little cones. The pattern called for a 2 ply - I still don't know the exact weight of the yarn. It came out very well, except it was far too short. I ended up having to pick up along the hem and adding some more ribbing. This is something I am aware of now - my long torso, and measuring the length before I start the armhole shaping. I think most knitters have to add length to vintage jumpers now - we're taller, and broader. You just have to look at the models in patterns from the 30s, and they were slight - narrow shoulders, small busts, slender hips, like this lady: I love that pose, and her regal face. The column is pretty awesome too. I modified the jumper, using the yoke of this pattern: I liked the effect so much, I knitted one in red. This time I added extra pattern repeats, giving a slightly more relaxed fit. I used Misti Alpaca lace. Here is another pic of me wearing it in a more 50s beatnik style with my Shellac Sisters, at a gig we did in South London somewhere. So that's my first free pattern, but not the last. I hope you like it.

I am a pretty big fan of cute printables. I love to make them! I love that they’re an easy way to decorate for a holiday or special occasion. I also have a love for vintage/retro fonts! There is something about using a font this is inspired from the 1920’s-1960’s that just feels cool...Read More »
