This striking clear image of a female participant in the Venice Carnival is posing for the camera to reveal her beautiful eyes inside the ornate, hand painted traditional mask. Venice Carnival happens once a year before Easter and lasts two weeks. I have photographed this unique event twice so far and I want to return to do it again. Venice is both classic and romantic and the variance in Venetian costumes makes each carnival unique. People from all over the world come to attend and most participate even if it involves wearing only a small mask. The costumes cost in the thousands of dollars and on some nights, large balls are filled with costumed revelers who are donned in glorious fabric, vintage dress shoes, hand painted masks and elaborate wigs. As a photographer, I am constantly seeing photo opportunities in the magical place. This image would look beautiful in any room and would provide human interest, ancient tradition, and an admiration of style and fashion from anyone who sees it.

Taken during the opening weekend of the Carnival in Venice, Italy, in January 2008.
This ornate Venice Carnival mask and costume is very colorful as this female reveler is dressed from head to toe in a very elaborate multicolored costeum. Her mask is very stoic and it reveals her beautiful eyes. She wears a headdress of a conical shape covered in in sequins and she has a deep gaze that reveals her soft brown eyes. Venice Carnival is held in early spring each year and is one of the most anticipated and celebrated events in Europe. The extravagant costumes and masks are quite memorable and no two carnivals are the same. This photo comes in various standard sizes and is printed on archival paper.

International Travel Academy is truly a multi-disciplinary approach that enables children to explore the world in an unforgettable way. Students get a real sense of what it means to respect another country's heritage, beliefs and ways of living, thus making them more tolerant and internationally-minded. I highly recommend this program to educators and parents wishing to make learning come to life!" – A Former Assistant Superintendent at Atlanta Public Schools “(The five-day program) has given our school the unique opportunity to provide students with incredible experiences that align so well with our IB focus. Each spring with family and community support, our school essentially is transformed into our country of study for one full week. Teachers are easily able to follow the daily curriculum and activities provided, and the students truly enjoy this special week of instruction. From the art projects to festive food tastings, cultural dress, music, dance and traditions, the students spend this entire week engaged in new and exciting experiences of a new country. I would encourage all schools (IB, or not) to jump in and make a week like this happen for their students. It is incredibly gratifying to spend this week with kids as they come together to learn and share experiences like these across grade levels, school-wide. When we hear such rich discussion in classrooms and read their detailed writing about what they've learned as part of (the) week, it makes all the preparation, planning and expense totally worth it!! “ – An International Baccalaureate Instructional Specialist at a local elementary school FEEDBACK Our lessons have been tried and tested for the past seven years. Carnival mask - best of Venice. Posters med en collage af skønne venetianske karnevalsmasker. Brugen af masker kan føres tilbage til 1200-tallet og menes at være en måde til at bryde ud af bystatens, Venedis, meget strenge klassesystem. Måske var maskerne også et middel til at gøre visse ting, som det ikke var klogt, at kunne forbindes med, f.eks. at besøge bordeller, hengive sig til kortspil og andre forlystelser.
