Gather a paper plate, construction paper, scissors, tape or glue, a marker, and a blue dot marker. Dot marker the plate blue. Cut a triangle out of the plate for the fish’s mouth. Tape or glue the triangle cutout to the opposite side of the plate as the fish’s tail. Draw Jonah from the construction paper and then cut out. Add the fish’s eye, and tape or glue Jonah onto the belly of the fish. Jonah was swallowed by a big fish. Jonah trusted God, because God’s way is perfect. God made the big fish spit Jonah out!

I am so EXCITED about this LESSON. I know the KIDDOS will LOVE this one!!!! It is a WONDERFUL story and teaches the KIDDOS so many attributes of GOD. HE is ALL KNOWING. HE is ALL POWERFUL. HE is ALWAYS PRESENT! GOD is TRULY AMAZING!!!! This is a GREAT story to TEACH the WONDERFUL NATURE of GOD! It is also an opportunity to TEACH about OBEDIENCE, RESPONSIBILITIES and the NEED NOT to be PREJUDICE and REPENTANCE. I will be TAKING LOTS OF PICTURES this SUNDAY! Each KIDDO will be allowed to get into the "WHALE" and we will TAKE their PICTURE! I am thinking the PICS might be fun for the KIDDOS to give their MOMS for Mother's Day in MAY!! This was super EASY to MAKE!!! I used a KID size Pop Up PLAY TENT. I draped it with a KING SIZE blue sheet (blue sheets are WONDERFUL to keep in your supply room!!) added the eyes (made the eyes out of felt and attached them with DUCT tape) and gathered the back to look like a tail. WALLA!!!! Easy Peasy WHALE!!! I want to make sure the KIDDOS understand what it means to REPENT. So, we will be adding the word "REPENT" to our WORD WALL! We have added JONAH to our "GOD'S AWESOME PLAN for MAN" wall. This wall is a type of TIME LINE. It allows the opportunity for the KIDDOS to SEE the BIBLE stories that we have already learned. It is a wonderful REVIEW TOOL. The KIDDOS memory verses for this lesson is 2 Corinthians 7:10. I thought it was appropriate for this lesson. I want the KIDDOS to understand what TRUE REPENTANCE means to GOD. We will sing this to a "Ronda Original" tune. NINEVAH This week we will be adding several NEW places to our MAP WALL. NOW, if you look closely you will NOTICE I somehow did NOT include a NINEVEH in this PICTURE. BUT, never fear, once I realized my GOOF...I took one more picture. BTW, if you notice I put our PAST LESSONS, EXPLORER JOURNAL ACTIVITY, up around the MAP. This is a GREAT WAY to quickly REVIEW! our PAST LESSONS. It HELPS me REMIND the KIDDOS of these LESSONS! IT also lets PARENTS "PEEK" in and SEE some of the activities the KIDDOS have been doing on the weeks when the KIDDOS do NOT take home their ACTIVITY. Remember, I COLLECT all the "EXPLORER JOURNAL" ACTIVITIES and place them in their "EXPLORER JOURNALS." The KIDDOS take those JOURNALS home at the END of a QUARTER. The KIDDOS "TAKE HOME" Activity this week begins with a SMALL "milk" jug. These jugs actually came with FRUIT PUNCH in them. I have collected these for a LOOONG time. The are such a SWEET size and will work perfectly for the KIDDOS. However, I have made these before with the GALLON size!! Those are fun too!!! But, I had these little finger puppets from ORIENTAL TRADING and the GALLON one would have been HUGE in comparison. I spray painted them gray. I then made a "TAIL" out of GRAY foam and hot glued it to the CAP. During CLASS the KIDDOS will ADD the eyes. (To expedite this, I have stuck Double Stick FOAM dots to the back of the eyes. That way it is a PEEL and STICK activity!) NOW, about those LITTLE JONAHS. I had ordered a BUNCH of sets of Nativity Finger Puppets from Oriental Trading...I KNOW these are supposed to be "JOSEPH" but, for me they are JONAH!!! So, this is what I did. I POKED a small hole in the top of the heads of each of these "JONAHS" and threaded a cord through them and tied it off. KEEP READING and you will understand WHY!!! :-) I have a small hole in the Whale's (GREAT FISH) mouth. I threaded the other end of the thread through that hole. That way the KIDDOS get to CATCH Jonah with their GREAT FISH (Whale.) I think he is so cute sitting in there!!! I KNOW the KIDDOS are going to LOVE catching JONAH!!!! We will sing a song as we CATCH JONAH. If you want to SEE me CATCH JONAH---watch the short video right here. :-) This is the SONG we will be singing as we CATCH Jonah with our GREAT FISH (WHALE.) GOD'S Prophets have been busy! We have learned a LOT of LIFE lessons through these Prophets. I LOVE placing the PROPHETS with the KINGS that were REIGNING during the time the PROPHET PROPHESIED. I want the KIDDOS to see the CONTINUITY of the BIBLE. Even though we are leaning from the book of Jonah...I want the KIDDOS to know that Jonah was PROPHESYING during the time/life of Jeroboam II Our REVIEW GAME this week is called "Jonah Is Overboard." I have had this little "BIBLE TIME" man for a REALLY LONG TIME. I think he came from a VELCRO SET...but, I got him FREE at a YARDSALE!!! His clothes are very spongy and the ROUGH side of VELCRO STICKS to him really well. So, that got me to thinking....I wanted a TOSS JONAH type activity. The KIDDOS will answer a question for an opportunity to TOSS Jonah at the BOARD...and when he STICKS they have to answer another question!!! Next week we will REVIEW this LESSON!!! The KIDDOS will SAY their MEMORY VERSE and they will make their "EXPLORER JOURNAL" Activity. I wanted the KIDDOS to have a WHALE (GREAT FISH) that they could POKE JONAH in and out from. So, this is what I came up with....Jonah is actually on a brad---I colored the brad GRAY with a Sharpie---after all, I could not stand a GOLD brad on my GRAY Whale. Jonah actually ROCKS in and OUT of the WHALE. I am really happy with the way this turned out....HOWEVER, I may add a "handle" that the KIDDOS can grab so that it is easier to move Jonah in and out. If I deem it is necessary, I will take another picture and SHARE it with you. Blessings, Ronda

Happy Thursday!! Can you believe I’m actually blogging twice in less than 24 hrs?! I thought yesterday’s craft was so cute that it must be shared immediately! Yesterday we learned about…
Finally I am gettting around to sharing some of the crafts that Caleb made this summer at campmeeting. He made lots and had a fun time making each of them. Today I'll share the Jonah craft he made. The kids cut out a whale shape from craft foam. ( the brad shown there is to hold it together because the craft foam was too small and 2 peices had to be used.) On the back they taped a party favor thingy (what's it called??) On the very end of the party favor thingy (still can't think of what it is called) they taped a picture of Jonah. So, when they blew on the party favor, it looked like Jonah was being spit out of the whale. You may be able to see it if you click on the picture to enlarge it. Caleb says in his best british voice (as if he were anchoring the BBC news) "And in 3 days Jonah got spat out of the whale." lol ;o)

Looking for a cute Bible craft? The Jonah and the Whale Craft (or Jonah and the Big Fish Craft) is a fun and interactive craft that helps kids to learn about how God forgives us when we make mistakes. It comes in color and black and white versions and all you need is some basic craft supplies and large clothespins to create it. The craft references to 1 John 1:9, which says that if we confess our sins that God will forgive us because He is faithful and just. God loves us no matter what. And He wants to forgive us, just like He forgave the Ninevites when they did bad things, and how He forgave Jonah for not obeying right away. ⭐⭐ SAVE WITH THE BUNDLE! The story of Jonah contains some serious messages, but also great drama – it’s not every day someone is swallowed by a big fish and spat out again! To make this craft, you’ll need…
It was our 4th Birthday at Messy Church last Saturday and it was wonderful to be able to welcome families who have been with us since the very beginning; families whose children weren't even born 4 years ago, and families who were joining us for the very first time. We have been so blessed over the last 4 years with some wonderful families who've made Messy Church their home, so we wanted to make this session extra special to thank God for all he's been doing in our lives and the lives of our Messy families! Our theme was 'Jonah' and each craft helped the children and parents to think about the story....some children were hearing it for the first time! Jelly Lucky Dip! I wrapped a bucket in blue paper and stuck a whale (with a big mouth!) on the front. Inside the bucket, I made up 10 pints of jelly (lemon yum!) and then added a few bits and pieces from around the house (bouncy balls, giant paper clips, keys, plastic toys etc, together with a figure of a someone who looked as if he could be Jonah!). We asked the children to have a delve in the bucket to see if they could find him! There were sweetie prizes as an incentive, however most of the children (and even some adults) didn't seem to have any kind of reservations about fishing about in the belly of this whale! We talked with the children about what it must have been like for Jonah inside the whale - probably just as slimy as this bucket but maybe not so sweet-smelling! Which Fish? Game We covered a table in blue cloth and scattered whale cut-outs, some of which had a picture of Jonah stuck on the under-side. The cut-outs had paper-clips attached to their mouths and we handed the children home-made magnetic fishing rods (we've used these so many times over the last 4 years!) to see 'which fish' had swallowed Jonah! Jonah prayers Using speech bubble post-it notes, we asked the children to stick their 'Jonah Prayers' onto a cut-out of a giant whale with Jonah sitting in the middle. We took this into church for our celebration time and read out the prayers that the children had posted. We took the time to remind the children that although we all do things wrong sometimes, Jesus died for us so that we can approach God knowing that he will always forgive us when we are sincerely sorry for messing up. Jonah Fish Sandwiches We made 'Jonah Fish Sandwiches' using whale cutters I'd found on a visit to Hobbycraft (10 for £1!). However, when the shape was cut out, it didn't look much like a whale so not one of my better bargains! The children spread the inside of the sandwich with a choice of honey, marmalade or jam (or all three!) and then sandwiched the two halves of bread together with a gummy bear inside to represent Jonah. Origami boats Our origami boats are ones we've tried and tested many times before (Jesus calms the storm, Noah and the Ark, Jesus calls his disciples to become fishers of men, etc etc!) The children also fixed sails to their boat using a drinking straw mast. We talked about the part of the story where Jonah tried to run away from God and how he and his fellow crew members were in danger from the storm which blew up when they were on the ship. Jonah knew what had to be done - but he couldn't have guessed what would happen next! Pop-up Jonah! 'Peggy' the Whale! Using a photocopied template of a fish, which we folded into a cone shape, we then attached a Jonah picture to the end of a straw and the children had great fun re-creating the part of the story where Jonah was spat out onto the beach! Our 'Peggy the Whale' craft was popular with the children, simply attaching two 'halves' of the whale to the bottom and top of the sides of a peg. Great fun! In the Belly of the Whale As the children came into the church, we displayed all of the craft session photos on the overhead screen, accompanied by the Newsboys 'In the Belly of the Whale'. During our celebration, adapting the words of 'Our God is Great Big God' and writing another couple of verses to make it a song about Jonah (sort of worked!), we also involved the children and adults to tell the story of Jonah using a very simple script and a power-point on the overhead screen as a prompter for everyone to join with sounds effects (storm noises, splash! as Jonah was thrown overboard, people of Nineveh saying 'sorry God' etc). The whale was made from 2 zimmer frames (yes, I did say zimmer frames) covered in black bin liners with paper teeth and polystyrene balls for eyes , but you could use a child's pop-up tent, small table, etc - anything large enough for a child to climb into! Our tea time was great but you should have seen the children's faces when I produced the bucket of jelly and asked who wanted some! :-) Can't wait for the next Messy on 10th November when we'll be looking at the story of Daniel in the Lion's Den! If anyone would like more information (scripts, templates) you can contact me via e-mail.
