This week the Diva challenged us to use the new official tangle Auraknot. I had a lot of fun with the challenge, especially when I decided to combine Auraknot with an old favorite, Paradox. Here's the original tile. Tangles: Auraknot (with Paradox tangleation), Sedgling After I posted this tile I received many comments and email requests asking how I did it so I decided a little tutorial was in order. Fabulous is used here strictly as a descriptive term, not a new tangle name. I think of this variation as a hybrid of Auraknot and Paradox and that is why I have listed it as such. I have included a picture below of the instructions and you can download the tutorial as a PDF here. There are a few things to remember when drawing this tangle: 1. Remember to turn your tile and only go in one direction the entire time. The directions above are drawn going clockwise. 2. This will work with an infinite number of points, just like doing a regular Auraknot. I have only used a 5 pointed star because it is easy for demonstration purposes. 3. When you reach the middle, it may seem a little strange. Just pretend like you are starting over as if it was a brand new section of Paradox. 4. Don't worry if you make a "mistake". This hybrid tangle is very forgiving and difficult to find the error. Just keep going! I hope this tutorial has provided you with some new inspiration and that you enjoy the infinite possibilities that Auraknot has to offer!

Thank you! : )" "This is such a fun activity to practice tongue twisters! Students will love reading them, and will be great practice. Thanks for providing them in colored and black/white options. :)" How to make a wheel? 1) Color the wheel (both parts) if using black and white or print on astrobright paper. Cardstock is preferable! 2) Cut out parts in the upper part so that you have a hole for a sound and a part for tongue twister which helps to practice this sound (blend). 3) Laminate if necessary. 4) Place the part with cut out holes on the top. 5) Connect two parts of the wheel with a brass fastener. How to use? 1) Turn the upper part. The sound/blend that you see indicates the tongue twister which a student should read as fast as he can. 2) If you use wheels with ?, ask students to read a tongue twister and say what sound(s) / blend(s) is practiced. What sounds are practiced in the tongue twisters? labeled wheels: 3 colorful wheels to practice sound P sound B sound W sound V sound L sound M L and R blends (BL, BR, FL, FR, GL, GR) sound T sound R sound N sound S sounds SH and S sound TH colorful wheels with mystery sounds sounds CH / SH sounds TH / TH* sounds F / FL / FR sounds B / BL / BR sounds PL sounds T / TH / TH* sounds S / SH sounds CL / CR sounds L / N sound S sound M sound N sound W sound J sound Y sound Z The black and white version is available. Attentiveness “We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.” – Hebrews 2:1 Paying attention isn’t always easy for kids (or with kids for that matter…my ability to concentrate on a task is dwindling). Kids often see something shiny, and they are off in another direction....Read More
