(1818-1883) nasceu em Trèves, cidade ao sul da Prússia Renana, na fronteira da França, no dia 5 de maio de 1818. Filho de Herschel Marx, advogado e conselheiro da justiça, descendente de judeu, era perseguido pelo governo absolutista de Frederico Guilherme III. Em 1835 concluiu o curso ginasial no Liceu Friedrich Wilhelm. Ainda nesse ano e boa parte de 1836, Karl estudou Direito, História, Filosofia, Arte e Literatura na Universidade de Bonn.Karl Marx (1818–1883) foi um filósofo e revolucionário alemão. Criou as bases da doutrina comunista, onde criticou o capitalismo. Sua filosofia exerceu influência em várias áreas do conhecimento, tais como Sociologia, Política, Direito, Teologia, Filosofia, Economia, entre outras. No final de 1836, vai para Berlim, onde se propagam as ideias de Hegel, destacado filósofo e idealista alemão. Marx se alinha com os "hegelianos de esquerda", que procuram analisar as questões sociais, fundamentados na necessidade de transformações na burguesia da Alemanha. Entre 1838 e 1840, dedica-se a elaboração de sua tese, em busca de um cargo de professor. Em 1841, na Universidade de Iena, apresenta o trabalho "A Diferença Entre a Filosofia da Natureza de Demócrito e a de Epicuro". Por motivos políticos, Karl não é nomeado, as universidades não aceitam mestres que seguem as ideias de Hegel. Desiludido, dedica-se ao jornalismo. Escreve artigos para os Anais Alemães, de seu amigo Arnold Ruge, mas a censura impede sua publicação. Em outubro de 1842, muda-se para Colônia, e assume a direção do jornal Gazeta Renana, mas logo após a publicação do artigo sobre o absolutismo russo, o governo fecha o jornal. Em julho de 1843, casa-se com Jenne, irmã de seu amigo Edgard von Westphalen. O casal muda-se para Paris, onde Marx junto com Ruge funda a revista "Anais Franco Alemães", e publica os artigos de Fredrich Engels. Publica também "Introdução à Crítica da Filosofia do Direito de Hegel" e "Sobre a Questão Judaica". Ingressa numa sociedade secreta, mas é expulso da cidade. Em fins de 1844, Marx começa a escrever para o "Vornaerts", em Paris. As opiniões desagradam o governo de Frederico Guilherme V, imperador da Prússia, que pressiona o governo francês a expulsar os colaboradores da publicação, entre eles Marx e Engels. Em fevereiro é obrigado a sair da França e vai para a Bélgica. Dedica-se a escrever teses sobre o socialismo e mantém contato com o movimento operário europeu. Funda a "Sociedade dos Trabalhadores Alemães". Junto com Engels, adquirem um semanário e se integram à "Liga dos Justos", entidade secreta de operários alemães, com filiais por toda a Europa. No Segundo Congresso da Liga, são solicitados para redigir um manifesto. No dia 21 de fevereiro de 1848, com base no trabalho de Engels, Os Princípios do Comunismo, Marx escreve o "Manifesto Comunista", onde esboça suas principais ideias com a luta de classe e o materialismo histórico. Critica o capitalismo, expõe a história do movimento operário, e termina com um apelo pela união dos operários no mundo todo. Pouco tempo depois, Karl e sua mulher são presos e expulsos da Bélgica. Depois de vários exílios e privações, Max finalmente se instala em Londres. Apesar da crise, em 1864 funda a "Associação Internacional dos Trabalhadores", que fica conhecida como "Primeira Internacional". Com a ajuda de Engels, publica em 1867, o primeiro volume de sua mais importante obra, "O Capital", em que sintetiza suas críticas à economia capitalista. Ao escrever "Crítica ao Programa de Gotha", condena o programa que o partido socialista alemão adotara em 1875. As teorias de Marx influenciaram a Revolução Russa de 1917, teóricos e políticos como Lênin, Trotski, Stalin e Mao Tsé-Tung. Assim, sua doutrina esteve presente em vários países, como a extinta URSS, a China e Cuba.
