A frequency shifter moves all audio frequencies by a given frequency amount, rather than a musical interval, like a pitch shifter. Technically, it modulates the audio onto a high frequency carrier wave, while filtering off one sideband and demodulated using a slightly different frequency.This gives super cool results. Small shifts in frequency can give you deep phasing effects. Larger shifts will allow you to enter a highly interesting sonic world, where for instance frequency differences which are related to a note give strange harmonic structures, which when the note changes give the weirdest sort of musical dissonance – which was a much used trick of KOMA favourite Karlheinz Stockhausen.For instance, when you input a piano sound and shift the frequency up you will end up with a piano which is very metallic sounding. When you shift the frequency down, the sound will be more like a membrane. You can change the sound of the Frequency Shifter with the Amount control, which allows you to set the frequency shift amount, and the Sideband control where you can tweak the harmonic structure. Of course both controls can be controlled via the CV Interface too.CV Controlled Digital Delay:The Digital Delay is another creation of Otto, where he tweaked known configurations of the PT2399 Delay circuit to a Digital Delay with KOMA character! Use the different voltages that come out of the Mini Sequencer to automate different effect features, like the feedback of the Delay or the Cutoff frequency of the Spring Reverb’s filter.Route cv signals from one of the CV Interface’s inputs to the Threshold rotary control of the Roll-O-Dex and use incoming signals to trigger the different steps. Once no voltage is applied to the input, the Threshold control will act like a clock source, advancing the Mini Sequencer with every pulse.The Envelope Generator:Just like the Mini Sequencer, the Envelope Generator creates handy cv signals to use with effects. It uses the four rotary controls to set the Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release phases of the envelope. If there is no CV routed to the Threshold pot, it will fire off repeatedly with the speed set by the Threshold control. If you route a CV signal to the Threshold, it will compare this incoming signal to the threshold and only fire if the CV signal goes above it.CV Interface:The CV Interface consists out of 4 CV inputs that can be routed to 11 destinations on the Field Kit FX. These 11 destinations are the most important features that can be controlled on the machine.The four CV inputs are color-coded (Seapunk Blue, Chrisi Pink, Deep Dan and OG Orange). The eleven destinations have an LED and a little push button above them. When you press the button, the color of the LED changes and the CV with the same color is now routed to that control.Want to route your favourite LFO to the Delay Time? Simply plug it into one of the four inputs and press the small pushbutton above the Delay Time until the colors match. More details: The Fort Processor is an experimental noise synthesiser and audio effects instrument designed by harsh fun noise duo ISN’TSES (Tim Drage & Lisa McKendrick) for Fort Process sound art festival 2018. This event takes place in the tunnels and bunkers of Newhaven Fort on the Sussex coast, and the electronics and artwork of the synth are based on the layout of the site, with inspiration from the surrounding landscape and ocean. The synth is controlled by light, touch pads, 3 knobs, and a trimmer. Audio is created and manipulated by four sections which have been combined using a circuit-bent approach: 1. The audio input, (3.5mm) used to connect devices such as a radio, walkman, phone, tablet, mp3, instrument etc. This signal is distorted using high gain then run through a frequency divider to add two noisy sub-octaves. When no input jack is connected, the circuit feeds back and self-oscillates. 2. Squarewave oscillators pitch-controlled by a Light Dependent Resistor located at the top right of the PCB. This LDR can be played by moving lights near it or by blocking the light. The resulting sound can be further modulated by the touch pads which are the metallic drawings across the middle of the circuit board. Touch two or more of these at once to alter the sound. This can be understood as a live circuit-bending effect. 3. A variable-speed chopper, controlled by the 2nd knob. This rapidly slices between the distorted input/feedback signal and the light-controlled squarewaves. Turning the knob changes the speed, creating various ring-modulation, tremolo and cut-up effects. 4. A bass oscillator/filter/beat/drone generator, mutated from the classic ‘Twin-T’ analog kick drum circuit. This is triggered and influenced by the audio input and is controlled by the 1st and 3rd knob in conjunction with the trimmer pot. Knob 1 controls the decay envelope; turned anticlockwise this produces more percussive sounds, while turning it clockwise makes bass drones. When turned fully-clockwise it gets quiet to allow the other noises to cut through. The 3rd knob and the trimmer pot interact with each other to control the pitch of this section. The trimmer can be gently turned with a small screwdriver and can be viewed as a tuner to achieve either a resonant drum-like sound, or a more continuous bass tone. The trimmer should be tweaked before playing according to each users personal preferences. Expect random and unpredictable results from this section according to how the rest of the sections are influencing it. The Fort Processor should be powered only from a 9v DC, centre-negative power supply, ie a standard BOSS-style guitar pedal PSU. Other voltages or polarities may damage the synth. As this is an open-circuitboard style experimental synthesiser care must be taken not to short circuit anything while plugged in, do not use on a metal/conductive surface! Mojo Hand FX Clarity Compressor The Clarity was created for players seeking a clean, studio quality compression in a small pedalboard form. Much care was taken to make the Clarity as effective as possible without affecting tone or introducing noise. A silent noise gate was incorporated to help further this goal. CONTROLS:  Mix - Adjusts the blend of compressed signal added to dry signal. Fully left is 100% dry, right is 100% compressed. Comp - Adjusts the amount of compression desired. Level - Adjusts the output volume level. Slope/Envelope Button - Selects between two compressor types. -Slope: With the button in the Up position, the Clarity has a linear, traditional style of compression. The attack is fast, quickly grabbing signal peaks for a smooth response and feel.  -Envelope: With the button in the Down position, the Clarity becomes dynamic and punchier, with a greater response to attack (i.e. how hard you hit your strings or keys, etc). It is more reactive to the input and therefore a heavier sounding compression, causing a slight bit of "pumping" from the compress/release cycle slighting distorting the incoming signal. This is not necessarily an undesirable feature, introducing a perceived "warmth" due to the heavier manipulation of the signal. Unify Pedals and Eurorack UniFX is a compact and flexible effects interface that interconnects guitar pedals and electronic instruments with eurorack synthesizers. The module re-scales audio levels, offers voltage-control over the dry/wet mix, and uniquely allows for the primary and effects signals to swap sources. Effects Loop UniFX makes it easy to process eurorack audio signals with pedals, or to process external instruments with eurorack modules. Essentially, it is a level-scaling effects loop. The module has two pairs of mono IN and OUT jacks for signals—3.5 mm at eurorack-level and 1/4-inch at pedal-level. The slide switch labeled PEDALS-EUROFX swaps which jacks are used as the primary input/output and which are the effects send/return. To process eurorack audio signals with guitar pedals or outboard gear, use PEDALS mode. The eurorack source signal is patched thru the 3.5 mm IN and OUT jacks, while any pedals are connected to the 1/4-inch IN and OUT jacks. To process line-level instruments or guitar with eurorack modules, use EUROFX mode. The line source signal is patched thru the 1/4-inch IN and OUT jacks, while any effect/filter/etc modules are connected to the 3.5 mm IN and OUT jacks. Audio level scaling is approximately ± 12 dB, appropriate for most pedals. Mix Control The FX MIX parameter is a variable crossfader controlling the dry/wet balance of the input and effects return signals. The amount of effects mix is indicated by the WHITE LED. With the knob turned all the way down, only the input signal is heard from the OUT jack and the LED is off. Alternately, with the knob turned all the way up, only the effects return signal is heard and the LED is fully illuminated. The center position produces a 50/50 mix. This parameter may also be automated using the CV input labeled MIX, wherein the knob position is used to bias the incoming control voltage. The full range of the parameter is 10 Vpp, so a typical LFO of ± 5 V will fully sweep the FX MIX up and down if the knob is in the center position. VCA & Feedback Effects Because the circuit is VCA-based and DC-coupled, UniFX may also be used like a typical VCA module for both audio and control voltages. The only difference is that the control input works in reverse—as the voltage is increased, the signal is reduced. Simply run the primary signal through the 3.5mm IN and OUT jacks, connect nothing to the 1/4-inch jacks, and select PEDALS mode using the switch. Turn the FX MIX all the way up to have no dry signal, and apply a negative going control voltage to the MIX CV input. Additionally, due to UniFX’s switching effects loop topology, feedback effects can be easily achieved. Just slide the switch into the “wrong” mode, and turn the FX MIX parameter down to increase the amount of the effects return being fed back into the effects send. The MIX CV input can also be used for experimental voltage-controlled feedback effects. Patch Tips FEEDBACK MODULATION – Patch a signal through the 3.5 mm IN and OUT, and a guitar pedal to the 1/4-inch jacks. Put the switch into EUROFX mode. Patch a CV with negative going voltages into the MIX CV input, and bias the knob so that effect feedback comes in and out to taste. This patch is especially interesting using reverb effects.
