Twined, or two-end, knitting is an unusual method of knitting that produces a very warm, firmly elastic fabric and motifs not possible in any other type of knitting.

White mittens in traditional twined knitting. I have never knitted white mittens in twined knitting until now. I don´t know why ... I love the traditional aspects of twined knitting, and white mittens with crook stitch patterns often gets to represent twined knitting. The model of the mitten is a traditional one with a thumb-gore. All crook stitch patterns are from Dalarna (Dalecarlia). The yarn is Wålstedts 2-ply for twined knitting, a total of 110 grams for these mittens (Woman´s sized). Dbpns 2,5 mm. Knitting crook stitches is actually fun, and not difficult at all. While knitting, the pattern may not always stand out as it will in the finished item, so you need some patience until you can judge your finished result. I used three threads of white yarn in the cast-on. Traditionally it is common to use one red and two white threads for the cast-on. But this time I decided to stick to an all white mitten. A fairly quick knit and very few ends to take care of when I was finished knitting. I will definitely knit more of these.
Twined knitting, a photo by Asplund on Flickr.I do like swatches, but it's also nice to combine swatching with making something you can use. The other day I saw super knitter Tålamodspåsen's phone case and thought I'd make one for myself to test a couple of pattern ideas for twined knitting. For easy comparison I like having different versions of the same idea in a swatch, in this case a pattern with knit stitches and then with both knit and purl stitches. Not only do they look and feel slightly different, the one with purls is thicker too. Twined knitting with two colours looks a bit like mosaic knitting, but there are major differences. In mosaic knitting you knit with one colour at a time and slip stitches to make a pattern; in twined knitting you knit with both colours and cover stitches with the strand you don't knit with to make a pattern. I haven't knitted much mosaic knitting, but it seems to me it tends to curve (depending on the pattern) in a way twined knitting doesn't. Not that it's a bad thing necessarily - I can see how it could be an effect you'd want to achieve. All the twisting makes it necessary to unwind the two strands every now and then. Having just one ball of yarn makes it easier: you just let it hang in the air. Edited to add: how I wish I could draw like Mattias!

I had some ideas of using patterns from the book "Føroysk bindingarmynstur" for a project in twined knitting. There are lots of stitch patterns in this book that should work fine in mittens or caps. I just have to "get a feel" of how they present themselves in twined knitting, if they are fun to knit, if the result is satisfying and so on ... The true answer will be seen when the swatch is washed and dry. I chose to knit the swatch in brown and white to get good contrasts. I am not sure that I will use this colour combination in coming projects. It is nice to do some twined knitting again after shawl and socks.

One of the greatest things about crochet bags is that they are extremely versatile. They can be used for any occasion. You can make them in any size or shape as you desire.... right from a small crochet gift bag to a large Crochet Tote Bag, Purse , Market Bag, Beach Bag or an elegant evening bag. Crochet Bags are not only pretty but also very functional and practical. Today am sharing the pattern for this quick and easy Rustic Crochet Jute Bag. I love the rustic feel of jute twine. Crochet Patterns made with Jute twine are beautiful to look at and they are extremely strong , durable and sturdy. They are just perfect for crocheting Bags and Large Laundry Baskets. They are also great for many more DIY crafts for your home. The Jute Twine being quite sturdy gives the finished bag a sturdy shape and prevents it from stretching. The crochet stitches used are basic making it beginner friendly. In this crochet pattern, the handles are crocheted from jute twine too. If you wish, you can try replacing it with ready made handles. These ready made handles will definitely give a different look to this bag. You might find the Jute twine a bit rough and hard to work with. If you find it hard to pull out the stitches, try changing your hook size or try holding the twine in a different way for more comfort and keep the stitches loose. Working with Jute can be messy too 'coz they leave back little particles of the fibers, but its fun and worth making Crochet Projects with them. Materials Used:- 3 Ply Jute Twine Cord 6 mm Crochet Hook Size:- Base - 9''/2'' Bag Size - 7''/10'' Notes:- For this whole Pattern the Starting Chain 1 will not be counted as a stitch.
