Was brauchen wir? Einfach klasse.

Illumine is inspired by the curious rays sometimes glimpsed around a source of light viewed through half-closed eyes, a camera lens, or gaps in the clouds. Also by a skein of yarn that seemed to glow from the inside. And by the magpie who sits outside my window and sings his heart out all night through the darkest month of winter, waiting for the dawn and the spring. The design uses an evolving wedge shape which grows intuitively as you progress through the rows towards the ethereal edging. Light beading serves as row counters, so you can always find your place. The shawl can be worked entirely from the written pattern, or from the charts with some notes. The sample was knit in Vivid Fiber Art Lux. A substitute yarn is shown below.

The second side mirrors the first, but features a contrast color, which is worked in intarsia until it is worked over the whole width of the shawl. In Addition there is a description for a solid Version of Part 5 (in English und German)

This gracefully modern interpretation of the traditional lace stole plays with clever, knitterly construction. Dawn Catanzaro gives her piece an unexpected 90-degree twist to make an impact with long lines of garter stitch. The center of the stole is knit up from a long foundational strip of lace, the lace of the short edges is accomplished together with the body, and the second long lace edge is worked as the garter stitches are bound off. Knit in Loft at an airy gauge, the fabric is light and warm as down. Designer: Dawn Catanzaro Collection: Wool People, Volume 7

This shawl is worked in garter stitch in the first section, followed by sets of short rows, stripes, and a yarn over section to finish. The method of construction creates the asymmetrical shape; while the design elements of color, shaping and textured stitches make it a true original. I hope you enjoy knitting Kelias as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Pure silky softness glides through your fingers as you knit this one-ball beauty!A very pretty lace pattern that only uses basic decreases and yarn overs evolves nicely as it runs the length of the scarf. The placement of the decreases and eyelets form curves that evoke the loveliness of an ornate chalice.A few stiches in Garter stitch along both edges give them a subtle and neat finish.Knit this highly-giftable scarf in any of the many kid mohair/silk blends of lace-weight yarns (see materials section for yarn options). An amazing stash-buster!PLEASE TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE as the required yardage is based on this gauge.Sample is shown in Rowan Kidsilk Haze, shade Jelly. These yarns are good subs too, but have slightly less yardage per ball, so you might need 2 balls or can shorted the scarf a little: Madil Yarns Kid Seta (230 yds/210 m per ball), Garnstudio DROPS Kid-silk (218 yds/199 m per ball), Debbie Bliss Angel (219 yds/200 m per ball).

The pattern contains two sizes of the Dreambird, one for women and another one for little girls. INCLUDED are TRADITIONAL row by row descriptions for both sizes and DIAGRAMS for those who prefer a visual approach. The OPTIONAL written instructions are meant for those of you who want explanations or are interested in how I approached the project. The step photos for the Minibird although different in numbers are also a support while you are in the knitting process. The different approaches work independently from each other; so if the wording bothers you just leave it aside. It is essential though to read the general part about short rows if you are not familiar with them. The coloring has been completely achieved by short rows. It is also possible to use all three approaches as a support. The English version has been tech edited by MHM. So if you are interested in the pattern don’t let yourself get confused by the first part of the former KAL or older notes on projects’ pages. They basically refer to times where there was neither a row by row description nor a diagram but only a written pattern. All issues should have been resolved. The French translation was made by Christine73. The Dutch translation was made by Ima. The Swedish translation was made by Brittica The Danish translation was made by RieKrogh Errata for Danish translation, page 16, row by row: 71 luk de første 10m af, strik til enden, slå 25 nye m op (130) Spring over 01, og fortsæt med 02 Slut sidste fjer efter pind 28, og hækl en kant i fjergarn tilbage langs halskanten. The Italian translation was made by Lucietta85 The Finnish translation was made by HeidiKoo “Suomalaisessa ohjeessa, kohdassa Malli kerros kerrokselta, on virheitä muutamalla rivillä: Riveillä 5,7,9,11 ja 13 pitäisi lukea “K 45” (ei K 35) sekä rivillä 31 pitäisi lukea “Neulo loppuun (4 s)” (ei Neulo loppuun (3 s))” The rich coloring of birds is something wonderful and I felt I wanted to express this in knitting. I had the Kingfisher before my eyes when I did this but there are no limits of what you can do, hence the name Dreambird! Dreambird looks more complicated than it is. When you strictly follow the instructions for the first feather the following ones will be a walk in the park! The shaping is done by short rows and I explained everything in detail so that you don’t need to be an advanced knitter to knit this piece. As in the wingspan, the drive of the shawl is attained by offset triangles. Additional elements transform the triangles to feathers. Maylin, the creator of the Wingspan, authorized this version before I even started knitting. You can knit the feathers with a yarn of rather long color changes or use up your stash, it is up to you! The fluffy Kid Mohair in the background emphasizes the feathers.
