For as long as I can remember, the Easter Bunny has been visiting my house. When I was a child, my brother and I always competed to see who could find our basket first. Now, as a parent, I just love sitting back and watching my little ones search the house through for their Easter

Share Wildflower Ramblings! Treasure bins are a small collection of similar items to put in front of a young child to allow them time of explorations and wonder! I decided to use mini storage containers to create something like discovery boxes within treasure baskets.
A lovely blog reader, Gill, sent me a huge box of pine cones that she had collected from her garden in the hope that I would come up with something to do with them! I was thrilled as the girls have only got one measly pine cone in their treasure basket and I knew they...Read More »
I would love to hear from any of you that tried my “Mystery Person” idea! Did it work? Were your kiddos excited about it? Nothing like a little bribery to keep them behaving right? Helps us keep our sanity in these cold winter months! Here is the picture as promised of my mystery person can: This is my lucky duck can: I secretly pick a name (or 2) from the lucky duck can and put in in the mystery person can. They love that I am being sooo sneaky And the power pellets jar! I think I bought this little jar at Michael’s and just decorated it with a paint pen. When I first introduced the power pellets, {which I found on What The Teacher Wants, by the way} I bought the fizzy Skittles. The second time around I bought the double flavor kind. Well, they could clearly see the “S” on the candy – I had to think fast before the magic was gone – so I just told them that they are “SUPER” power pellets. Phew – that was a close one! Another FAVORITE in my classroom are “HAPPY ROCKS”. I love these, the kids love these, parents love these – every one loves these! They are simple and inexpensive to make! They are just vase filler rocks with a little smiley face drawn on with a paint pen! Parents {and kids } love to collect these! If you weren’t able to download the Mystery Person label the first time, let’s try again! Let me know if it doesn’t work!
My sweet friend Diana Glennie recently sent me a lovely parcel filled with goodies. This cardboard birdhouse was included with all the birdie related treasures. It came flat in the mail, all I had to do was fold to assemble it. One of my watercolor birdies asked me if he could make it his home, of course I had to say yes & even decorated it with a Sharpie :-) Thanks Diana!
Mixed Media Friday Challenge at ECS this week was to alter a tin using a Spring theme and this is what I came up with using only half a tin. I glued a BIG black button to the bottom to help it stand on it's own. I wrote a tutorial on altering tins last September and it was posted on another blog, which has since that time been deleted. So this is for a friend who asked how I make my tins, and I hope that those of you who have never tried this fun project yourself will take advantage of this tutorial, they are so quick and easy :) I will go through the steps I take, but you may like to do things a little different of course, that is up to you. Remember that if you need to see any of the photos close up just click on them and you will get the full size image. First of all you will need an empty, clean tin. I use an Altoids tin, I just love the mints, but any tin will do. What I do is scruff up the tin a bit with some sandpaper, any kind , not too rough. Then I take it outside and spray paint the outer parts of the tin to give it a clean finished look. You could also use a metal paint from the craft store and brush it on, but I have not tried that yet. Ta da..... blank painted tin. Sand lightly the parts of your tin that you will be gluing anything to. Usually the front, and two insides . If you don't take this step the glue may not adhere properly. Take your tin and draw around it on a plain piece of paper, and keep it as your template, or if you prefer just draw right on to any paper you have chosen. I chose a vintage clip art for my fairy child then decided on this paper for the front of my tin. Place it on top of the tin to see how it fits. NOOOOOOO.. no glue yet please! If it fits perfect you are lucky, if not then you need to trim it a bit all around until you can see it is going to fit properly on top of your tin. What I prefer to do is work on my front paper before gluing it to the tin, just incase I either make a mess or don't like it. So let's start adding our clip art. Here is the vintage image I chose of this cute little girl. I chose some butterfly wings to make her look fairy like, and gave her a little crown too. Once all my pieces are together I will then glue her on to the paper. I use a regular type glue stick for this part, it works great, just a UHU or Elmers glue stick. Now you are ready to glue this piece on to the front of your tin. The inside of the tin is fun. For this one I chose a green paper because I am going to put a baby fairy in the forest. I then used my glue gun and used this burgundy trim around the deepest part of the tin. Make sure you don't go too near the top edge or you won't be able to close the tin after. You can see the other side of my tin is sanded and ready for something. Here is my baby fairy all glued together. You will see her in a minute but I wanted to show you what I do to the back of her. First I will fold a piece on the bottom edge for sitting her down, and to make her more 3D I used 3 pieces of sticky foam which comes in strips. It depends how deep your foam is, you will have to judge how much to use. Before you see the baby fairy I want you to go out into the forest and collect some natural dried pieces of nature. Just kidding! Although I do like to hunt for little bits and pieces at the park here to use in mixed media, only at the time I am posting this, it's still way to cold for that. I use spanish moss, just a tiny bit and I got the other drieds from some potpourri I made last year. The little orange things that look like pumpkins are Pudka Pods if that is how you spell it, I am unsure. I will be showing you what I used them for later, but really, whatever you can find, even a tiny craft bird would be nice in there too. Ahhhhh there she is, my baby fairy :) Just waiting to sit in the forest. I glued the dried berry thingies and even some very vintage cotton flowers I have in my stash to the top side and up over the top a bit, with the glue gun. Then I put a few spots of the same glue and laid down a very light amount of moss. Baby is going right inside, and on top of that piece of moss. Either glue your foam and press it against the back of the tin, or just use the sticky part of the foam. This gives you more dimension rather than just a flat look. I used the foam again today on my new Spring themed tin to add the little butterfly. Shown below, she is glued in, I glittered her crown , added some more moss in front of her and glued down some more dried pieces. For the narrow inside of the tin I have printed out a fairy poem and aged the paper them simply glued it in. You could add another fairy there, whatever you feel like. ta da, you have a cute little altered tin :) Here is the front of another one I made for a swap, it's pretty much the same inside. Below is a Halloween tin I made last year , see how the little Pudka Pods look like little pumpkins, they are so cute. Mine smell good too because they were in a potpourri mix. Here is the front of that tin. As you can see, I used a black spray paint for this one. I hope this tutorial was fun for you, if you have any questions just ask and I will try and answer them. How to understand that without thoughts we can not feel and vice versa. To feel good, thoughts become more important then you may know.
Ever since my first child was a toddler, I've thought it would be fun to make a treasure hunt for him, with clues so he could go from one clue to the next until he found the treasure. The only problem was, he couldn't read. I tried a couple times writing down simple instructions on slips of paper ('the next clue is in your toy box'), but he obviously needed the help of an adult to decipher the instructions. Then I got the idea to make the clues be pictures of different spots in our house (like the toy box),

Roxanne First – aptly going by the name 'Rocky' – is obsessed with all things glistening. And it appears to run in her genes. Her mother collected and loved to layer jewels which, as a child, was mesmerising. Memories of rifling through her grandmother's treasures and gawping at her god parent's engagement ring were enough to cement Rocky's passion for the industry. For her namesake brand, she uses conflict-free, ethical diamonds within the pieces, designed never to be taken off – so layer and stack your colourful, new jewellery uniform.

You’re wondering what got into me. I’m not sure I can even say. Maybe it was stress that brought it on. Or maybe it was a deep, spiritual insight. Then again, maybe it was just the garlic in the pasta I’d had for lunch. In any case, the light went on…. We were burdened with too...

A long time ago, I decided to toss my treasure box and let the kids know that they aren't going to be rewarded for handing in homework, working hard, being quiet during seat work, etc. Why? Because it's EXPECTED. To have a harmonious class community, they must follow the rules and learn AS EXPECTED. At the same time, I wanted something more than my weekly newsletter to strengthen the home/school connection. So, Above & Beyond Bonus Bonanza Binder was born! Here's how it works: Pick a cover and copy the reward pages and place them in a binder. Protect them by inserting them in plastic covers. Give an overview of the program to parents during BTSN or in a newsletter. My overview on BTSN last 2-3 minutes. Easy peasy! Then: 1. Kids get a punch card to keep track of their at-home BONUS QUESTIONS. (All voluntary!) 2. I offer Bonus Questions when appropriate. Examples: Go home and use our word of the week in a sentence. Now of course, they are trained to IMPRESS their parents and drop the word in a casual/natural way that usually results in buggy eyes from parents! EXAMPLE: When word was rambunctious, one child said, when he heard neighbors were on way over,: "I hope they aren't rambunctious today." 3. Parent fills out Bonus Notice and kids return it to school. 4. They leave Notice Slip in my mailbox with their cards and I punch them. 5. When they get ten bonus questions (or you could do 20 or more) they select a treat from binder. NOTES The Bonus opportunities are all organic and occur naturally. Example: A child once asked who was on the 100 bill at the end of the day. Kids had different answers so I offered a chance to find out at home. *I love this program because I feel everyone deserves a pat on the back for going "Above and Beyond" and it truly keeps families in the loop as what we're discussing in the classroom. The punch cards and extra Bonus Notice slips are kept next to binder in a basket. Pages include: 1. Cover for TPT 2-3: Directions and Credits 4-8: Cover for Binder in various colors to choose from to match your room. 9. Play on computer for 20 minutes 10. Draw/Write on board for 20 minutes 11. Have lunch in classroom with a friend 12. Wear your socks in the classroom all day long 13. Be in charge of morning meeting 14. Use the easel to paint a picture 15. Pick a friend to build with blocks 16. Read to the principal or a special teacher 17. Change desks with a friend for the day 18. Pick a book and listen to it 19. Pick a puzzle to put together 20. Wear your pajamas to school 21. Bring something in from home to share 22. Share a science experiment with the class 23. Bring your favorite stuffed animal to school for the day 24. Share one of your stories with another class 25. When you complete 50 Bonus Questions, join another class for extra gym 26. Punch Cards 27. Bonus Notice Slips 28.
