Transitions can be one of the most challenging parts of the teaching day. One of my best tips is to shift how you look at transitions. Clearly, transitions are the changing times between main activities and group times. It is often transport time and preparation time. When you view it from this perspective – it […]

Weekend check list # 24 Friday, the weekend is very close for most of us, it’s time to discover some beautiful photos and places that contain a certain charm, but don’t need a complete post
I have been teaching for almost six months now and I haven't posted a picture of how my classroom looks since August! So here's my desk area and the back counter/bulletin board area. Seriously, no matter how often I try to keep it organized, by the next day it's a disaster again! If you remember my previous classroom post, I've moved some things around. My desk is now by my computer - which is wonderful. And I got a table just recently which inspired the desk move. I love having a table as a work space for students. Now I just need to figure out a better way to organize that back counter! As you can see, my bulletin board has a lot of papers on it. That is where I store some of the work I have planned for the upcoming week, or something that we have started as a class and haven't had a chance to finish yet. It's functional, but not all that pretty! Hopefully by posting this mess I will motivate myself to think of a better way to organize it all! So enough for classroom organization. Here's something fun that I created after seeing the idea on pinterest: an All About Number... poster. Here's the original: I loved the idea so I created my own version on Word and had it printed poster sized and laminated. Sometimes we do this as a class activity, and other times, like the one you see here, I have two students work together to complete the poster (See the color marks on the side - that shows students which ones to do). I really like making this a small group activity, because I've noticed the students helping each other out with the more difficult aspects like spelling the name or tallying! The number we use is usually the date, or a countdown to some special event. If you would like to use this in your classroom, you can download it here. Happy Monday!
This is a good drill for half ice practices. It is geared towards for forwards but is not bad for defensmen either. Place the two nest on the same goal line as shown in the diagram. The coaches or extra players gather the pucks in the center of the zone. Players line up just inside the red line about 10' off of the boards. On the whistle P1 skates down inside the zone around the face off dot and transitions backwards to the boards to receive a pass from the coach. P1 controls the puck for a few strides as they skate up the wall and then they make a pass to P2 (the second player in line).

One of the most pivotal steps in evolution-the transition from unicellular to multicellular organisms-may not have required as much retooling as commonly believed, found a globe-spanning collaboration of scientists led by researchers at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and the US Department of Energy's Joint Genome Institute.

I'm joining the fabulous Cara from the First Grade Parade! I went through my posts from the past year and am re-posting it again, for all the newbies that may have just stumbled upon my lil old blog! ******Original Post: Hello Out There?!?! Posted on September 14, 2012****** Wow! I totally have lost track of time. Guess the beginning of the year does that to you. We've been busy, busy, busy... testing, testing, testing, no less, but it's OVER! Now the fun begins for us as we start to switch our kiddos. I have 22 lovely littles in my class this year that are just FULL of energy and personality! Ha! :) Really, they are great, but by Friday, I'm spent! whew! I'm ready for the routines to kick in and have some "quiet" time in the room. ;) Here's some pics from our last 8 days of school! Cut and paste activity for what a Good Learner looks like. {It's part of my Back to School Bonanza packet on TPT} Find someone who.... They LOVED this! {also part of my Back to School Packet} Finished page! HOW adorable! We completed 4 pages and I am putting it together as a book for them to have. This week we did a fun activity getting to use Venn Diagrams. We read Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes and talked about our names. We usually graph the letters in our names and talk about why we like our names. Then we compared our names to each other and completed a Venn Diagram! First, cut out the names. I had them typed up in boxes so that all they needed to do was cut it out. Then they spelled their names on their desks. Then they found the letters they had in common and placed them in the middle of the diagram. I had them pile the same letters on top of each other to keep them from having a million a's or i's in the middle. It also helped them find those common letters. (I did allow them to have double or triple letters on the outside of the circle if they would like.) Click on the picture below to grab yourself a copy of this activity to use in your room! You'll need powerpoint to change the letters in the boxes. I used Hello Literacy's Hello Font, Hello Ali (free and adorable!!!) I enlarged the Venn Diagram part to 11X17 (I think that's the size on the copier) Have a great weekend friends! I'll be back soon with an adorOWLble Owl Glyph that we did today! I need to get them up on a bulletin board and take a picture to share! I'm also linking this up with Manic Monday over at Classroom Freebies! Check out all the other goodies there!
