Following the tragic deaths of her parents Frankie has taken refuge in the Peak District village of Wendby. She buries herself in local history - which proves deeper and darker than she could ever have supposed. She befriends, and decides to seduce, the would-be priest Andrew Grantham, whose family have for centuries shepherded the inhabitants of Wendby into heaven. With him the tradition will die: he has chosen a life of celibacy, and to serve the 'True Church' elsewhere. Anyway, the inhabitants of Wendby definitely have their own ideas for eternal life. Pivotal to the creation of their 'little paradise' is the dead twelve year old boy Peter Watson. It is Frankie who finds his body and uncovers a murder twenty years old. With this discovery the stage is set for the return of all of Wendby's beloved dead. Just one little act is required - a last little sacrifice. But the creation of paradise in this small Derbyshire village will be at the expense of all life outside it. Only a Grantham can de-rail the train of events that were set in motion by the murder of Peter Watson. It is up to Frankie to persuade Andrew Grantham to take on his family's historic role and avert the coming Armageddon. But she can only hope to persuade Andrew to do his duty by risking betrayal and the sacrificial knife. | Author: Errol Tompkins | Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform | Publication Date: Apr 15, 2016 | Number of Pages: 334 pages | Language: English | Binding: Paperback | ISBN-10: 1532775202 | ISBN-13: 9781532775208

Memorial for The Choctaw Indians at Fold3 - The Choctaw Indians have inhabited the Mississippi region since the pre-Columbian era. The Choctaws were considered one of the “Five Civilized Tribes” because of their desire to adopt European practices into the Choctaw culture. The Choctaw Indians were continuously loyal to the United States during the Revolutionary War and War of 1812, but sadly were subjected to the removal policies of the U.S. during the 1830s. Most of the Choctaw left Mississippi and other Southern states on the tragic Trail of Tears, but many Choctaw decided to stay and try assimilation into American culture and life. The Choctaws are split into two distinct branches: the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. Both groups faced discrimination and poverty after the Civil War until the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Today, the Choctaws continue many of their culture practices and have several successful business ventures, including casinos in both Oklahoma and Mississippi.

Lyman Bostock was a professional baseball player for the Minnesota Twins and the California Angels in the 1970s. Many believed he was good enough to win multiple batting titles, yet his murder meant it would never come to be. This book tells the story of Bostock's humble beginnings, his too-brief baseball career, and his tragic death.\nLyman Bostock Jr. had baseball in his blood. The son of a former Negro League standout, Bostock began his professional career with the Minnesota Twins in 1975. Two years later, he became one of the first players in major league baseball to cash in on the new era of free agency, signing with the California Angels for more than $2 million--one of the richest contracts in sports history at that time. But Bostock's true potential would never be known. On September 23, 1978, Bostock was shot and killed in Gary, Indiana. He was just 27 years old. In Lyman Bostock: The Inspiring Life and Tragic Death of a Ballplayer, K. Adam Powell tells the story of Bostock's humble beginnings in Birmingham, Alabama, his coming-of-age in Los Angeles, his involvement in the Black Power movement, his brief yet impactful baseball career, and his senseless murder in 1978. Those who knew Bostock and played alongside him believed he was good enough to win multiple batting titles, and perhaps even make the Hall of Fame some day. More than just a ballplayer, Bostock was known as a stand-out citizen who never forgot where he came from, investing hours of his time giving back to his community, visiting with local youth, and hosting baseball clinics. Lyman Bostock captures a remarkable era in professional baseball, an era when ballplayers such as Bostock still engaged closely with their fans even as power shifted from management and owners to the players. Through careful research, exclusive interviews, and rarely-seen photographs, Bostock's life and the times in which he lived are conveyed in intimate detail. For baseball fans of all ages, Lyman Bostock's biography is a poignant and inspiring story of an upcoming star whose life was cut much too short.
