A poem with a surprisingly inspirational message made an impact on one London bar patron, who then helped it go viral -- and it later turned out to be the work of an 11th-grade girl from New York.
The country is divided. No, not just about the Oilers versus the Habs, or the Leafs duelling with the Sens. It's about how you line up when it comes to butter tarts – gooey or custardy? This recipe sides with the custardy, and instead of making bakers choose between nuts or raisins and currants, we've included them all.

The lone-dweller, in need of the balm that only a freshly baked biscuit can provide, is faced with a most unsatisfactory choice: do without or make a batch big enough to keep a huge hungry household happy. I had to put that right, and not just out of altruism, you understand. To this end, I have created a cookie recipe that answers my every requirement: deeply chocolatey, sweet but not too sweet, and sprinkled with sea salt flakes. They are the work of an easy moment, requiring no more than a couple of bowls, a wooden spoon and a spot of stirring. And while I urge you to eat one — if such urging is even necessary — when it's still warm, so that it's crisp around the edges, its centre tender and shortbready and gloriously gooey with nuggets of molten chocolate, you can for a contrating kind of eating enjoyment leave the other until the next day (but no longer), when it will be slightly sandy and softly chewy. But these are big old biscuits so, if you find yourself in company — and a generous mood — you can graciously offer one of them without feeling short-changed. And please read the Additional Information section at the end of the recipe before proceeding. For US cup measures, use the toggle at the top of the ingredients list.
Whether you want to order it shaken not stirred or with an extra twist Culture Trip's martini list will turn you into a glitzy 007.
If Dexter was a food blogger... I promise, I'm not a psychopath... though I kind of felt like one when I was cutting these bars apart, seething with frustration as my initial rectangular bar shapes came out wonky and the glaze was cracking and cookie crumbs sticking everywhere (can you tell I'm a bit of
Let me start off by thanking Llewellyn Publications and Net Galley for giving me the opportunity to review this book, and wow, what a book! I read a lot, and I do mean a lot, and not every book I read makes it to my blog for a review. In fact, I have read 14 books so far this year, well over my original goal of 12. The Book of Hedge Druidry: A Complete Guide for the Solitary Seeker by Joanna van der Hoeven is one of the best books I have read all year, especially if you are a hedgewitch. While this book focuses on Druidry, I highly recommend it to my fellow hedgewitches, whether you are just starting out or have been practicing for a while.
So easy to make and no baking is required. Makes a great gift (if you are willing to be that generous). Adapted from Not Enough Cinnamon's Easy Homemade Bounty Bars aka Mounds, and For the Family's No Bake Coconut Snowballs.
These tarts have a flaky crust and sweet maple syrup filling. These would be perfect with tea or with a strong coffee. Sooooo I have just tried pure maple syrup and it was so good. Of course, the first try had to be with pancakes. 😀 I was given a can of pure maple syrup straight from Canada and it has been hiding in my pantry. It’s not that I am not excited to try it, but I have a habit of keeping food stuff until the expiry date is near. So yeah – blame me for all those ingredients that are soon to be expired. 😀 This maple syrup, though, is not so close to its expiry date. I have been daydreaming about these Maple Syrup Tarts and I knew it was a sign that I have to open that can and have a maple syrup party! 😀 I used the crust from the Filipino Egg Pie I have on the blog, but I used less sugar. The maple syrup is also sweet enough for me, so I used less sugar in the filling as well. The crust was baked perfectly – flaky and sweet. The filling was delicious. Perfect! These tarts are like a hug from your sweetest friend. 😀 I am sharing these at Fiesta Friday #203. I hope you all enjoy these. Happy Fiesta Friday! Let’s face it. We all know what happens in a room filled with barred instruments: kids want to play them! And of course, note-reading is not nearly as much fun as sliding up and down the bars with mallets. In the language of music, these slides are known as “glissandos.” And all children LOVE to play them. The “Glissando Song” gives your children permission to play glissandos as part of a humorous little song-story about Gracie Gordon. As a direct result, your students will come to understand the complicated concept of “up,” and “down” on the barred instruments they play. (With just one mallet, even your first graders will be able to perform the song!) The zip file contains a word sheet (for purposes of projecting and/or reading) as well as a lead sheet. Also included is a full piano accompaniment, an instructional Orff arrangement, and an mp3 recording of the song itself (without words.) *Thanks so much for stopping by our store. Please consider giving us a rating if you find our original compositions valuable to you and to the children you teach. Marlypeg Music grants permission for those who purchase our materials to reproduce our songs and mp3s only for the children that they teach. We would also ask that they be used solely in a classroom or performance setting. As our songs are copyrighted, we trust that you will respect the time and effort we have put into creating them, by honoring our request. Thank you. *If you find that your mp3 download won’t play, just pull it onto your desktop and try opening it from there.
