La Tartane est un bateau à voile de type méditerranéen servant à la pêche mais également au transport de tuiles et "malons" en Provence, et plus spécialement entre L'Estaque (les tuileries de Saint Henri) et le Vieux-Port de Marseille. Elles servirent aussi en Italie et en Afrique du nord. Les dimensions moyennes d'une tartane sont de 14 à 25 m de long sur 5 m de large. Elle est pourvue d'un grand-mât généralement à pible (fait d'une seule pièce), portant une voile latine appelée mestre et un foc appelé polacre. Ce type de bateau a disparu vers le milieu du XXe siècle avec l'apparition des transports routiers et ferrés. .
